Bra fitting help » Cups ride up into my armpits causing skin irritation and general discomfort

Issue resolved
Sized down to a 36E.
Original problem
The cups cut into my armpits and cause skin irritation and just overall discomfort. I tried loosening the straps, which helped ease the pain slightly, but made the bra less supportive and also the straps slip. I do the scoop and swoop, but the bra shifts as soon as I move my arms, and suddenly the cups are back in my armpits and I am no longer filling them.

helpfulThere are some elomi bras that have lower cups and wires that might be more comfortable. What part of the cup becomes empty? the top? the outside?

It sounds like you could be full-on-bottom, but if your breasts are just short, you can act full-on-bottom. another reason to find these shorter elomi bras.

Based on the band measurements and your rib measurements, I'd think you need a smaller band. When the band isn't providing the proper support, your breasts tend to shift out of the cup so it can give a false sense of the cup not fitting when it really is a lack of band support issue. With this, wires do tend to sit on breast tissue and that is painful, so this may be part of the problem. Can you try the bra on a tighter hook setting and see if it helps?
Also, the top of the cup looks like it curves in too much, while your breast tissue expands higher than that curve, so this bra shape/design is not ideal for your shape.
I know this doesn't help resolve the armpit wire issue (sorry) but may help explain some other issues.

I tried wearing the bra on a tighter hook, and it helped with most of the fit issues, with he exception of the cups riding up into my armpits. It made that issue worse, and more painful. Also, the gore doesn’t tack when I tighten the band.

so you might need a 34 G? Looks like not many elomi pictures in that size tho - still, see how low in the armpit here: https://www.bratabase.com/browse/elomi/etta-bandless-bra-8840/34G/

helpfulElomi Tia Bandless Bra (4280) and Elomi Amelia Spacer Moulded Bra (8740) are good ones for you to try.

helpfulWhile I don't think the bra looks bad on you, the band is much too large for you! Is this an old bra?
Given your description and dbmamaz excellent deduction of your bra fit. I completely agree with her assessment of the situation.
This being your typical padded, molded cup bra, it's pretty hard for it not to gape or conform to the breast correctly even if you didn't have a variety of other fit problems here. It's pretty rare to find a padded, molded cup bra that doesn't gape or move away from the breast while moving your arms away from the body.Updated on September 10, 2018 Flag this

No, this is a brand new bra.

It depends on the position of my arms. When I lift my arms up the outermost sides of the cups cave inward. When I put my arms down, the tops of the cups have some extra space. The only time I fill the cups completely is right after I scoop and swoop.
