Bra fitting help » Breast is folding. Why?
Dorina » Fiji Full Cup Light Padded Underwire Bikini Top (D17027A) » 32G 32:7
Issue resolved
Look for a style with deeper cups next time.
Original problem
I know this swimsuit top doesn't fit and there isn't enough depth, particularly at the bottom of the cup. Is that what is making my boob fold in half?
Clearly I'm soft and have short roots, but what's up with this? What should I look for next time?

Yep! Your breasts don't have enough room to project out as much as they want. The shallow cups are pressing the tissue into your chest wall. That might also be why the band feels too tight - cups that are too small can have that effect.
A cup size up (or two!) might work better, but then you might also get more gapping where the cup meets the strap due to your short roots.
I don't really know anything about what's available on the market for swimsuits, but I'd try looking for something with seams - that should hopefully work better for your projection.

helpfulEven in bras that fit well this happens to me slightly on the side. It’s an effect of short roots. Look for bras designed for full on bottom breasts with good forward projection and it won’t happen as much.

Thank you! I totally get the need for more projection. I think I'm pretty even to FOT. Maybe I'm wrong about that? Or are you saying look for FOB styles to get the projection I need?
-
Yeah if you’re short rooted you’re more likely to fill the bottom and center of the cup so having taller cups built for FOT won’t do much for you. I’m full on top too but it rarely matters for me except for with a few brands/models that are built for shorter roots.

By the way, if you want to see my short roots doing the exact same thing in a too small bathing suit, check out 40HH - Elomi » Abalone Swim Bra (7082).

Tacks for sharing! Good to see this is not just me. What brands/models would be better for short roots? I've been experimenting a lot lately with different bras. Any suggestions would be welcome.

I’m sorry, there’s so few brands in my size range and I have no idea how they would fit you in yours. Hopefully someone else has some good ideas?

Understood! Thanks for the help and diagnosis.

I can't say the projection would work, but half cup/demi style bras tend to have shorter cups so could possibly work well. Many brands offer that style (Freya, Panache/Cleo, Comexim, Gaia, Gorsenia, and Ewa Michalak to name a few) and should all have your size range available. Researching the database can help filter out ones that wouldn't work, & give you a better preview what the styles look like on real people (to help gauge immediate projection and cup height in your range.)

Thanks MamaPagan. I've always been a little worried about falling out of half cups. However that was most off my life wearing the completely wrong size. That said, I have a couple of them on order from Kris Line and Le Vernis. Been thinking I should give them a try and see if they are more suitable now that I'm getting more educated about bras and how they should fit.
What did we ever do before bratabase? Wait, I know. We were all wearing the wrong size! I love this place.

It is a great community for sure. (And you are welcome. :-) )

Thank you for the reply! Sadly, I think in at the top end of their range, but you've given me good suggestion on the seamed cups. I have a Curvy Kate that's seamed, maybe I'll take another look at their still tops. Seems like their wires are kind of wide for me, though.
I shall persist.
