Too big and bad shape for me
Original problem
So, I altered this bra (quite easy) and it fits perfectly. I can't really afford to buy a lot of bras (and my old "best fitting" bra is starting to get too small) so I'm wondering if you ladies can tell me if I move down cup sizes, will the shape this bra gives me change?
I fill out the bottom perfectly, but it gapes at the top. I have this problem with every bra I've tried on. I'll get quadboob towards the center if the cup is too small, but the top outer part will gape. It's mostly due to the strap position, but I'm pretty sure I have the difficult to fit infinity boob.
Any help is appreciated.
Thanks!Old version:
I love the shape this bra gives me!
I seem to fill it perfectly at the bottom, but there is this huge amount of gaping at the top and it cuts into my armpits. I tried tugging just to the inside of the strap at my ultimate strap position, and it seems that if I bring the straps in, it will fit perfectly. There would be no gaping, I wouldn't have to tighten the straps so much, and it wouldn't cut into my armpits.
I don't mind bringing the straps in on this bra if I need to, but I don't want to if I don't need to.
So, is this a shape issue that I can fix by bringing in the straps or is this bra too big?
Thanks!

helpfulThe bra is good for you. Alter where the straps are and the cup won't gap at the top at all. The straps are wide for you. This is how I tell pull up on the center or more center than the straps are and it the cups fits when you do that then the only problem is where the straps are. To me they look too separated. Other than that the bra looks A+. And Jillsas is more experienced than I am so definitely listen to her. I'm just going by my little bit of experience. But sometimes the straps make the bra seems too big in cups (like mine) when they are not too big. It's just the strap separation is so severe compared to what you need, that it throws everything in the cups off. I also agree with Jillsas. An example would be my pictures in my 28 F Mimi Holliday bra. I change where the straps are ... and all of a sudden it fits me. http://www.bratabase.com/browse/mimi-holliday/tarte-tatin-satin-and-lace/28F/#
This is a perfect example of what I'm seeing in your pictures and also an issue I have with many of my bras that seem too big. But they aren't ! You pull your shoulders back and all of a sudden it fits. That is totally too wide straps. If the straps where more center on top of the cups and your boobs you would not have any issues bra. I hope that I have helped you I noticed the straps in the back are perfect but in the front they look way too separated.Updated on August 14, 2013 Flag this

I have this problem with most of my bras. I have narrow shoulder and a very narrow frame. I just got a brooke 28f Freya and the strap placement is better than 95% of my other bras.

maybe if you take in the center gore that would help with where the straps are. It would be easier than altering the straps and it would help with the gaping on top of cups. :D

helpfulYour cups are too big, so the straps are too far apart. Try sizing to a 30F. Actually, try one of the longlines that does come in 28 band in 28FF, I think that would probably be better.

The problem is that I know that I'll have to do the alteration with the 30F too because my cups are always "too big" (not usually this badly) unless I have my shoulders straight back and the straps in all of the bras that I've tried (28/30E-G, different brands) cut into my armpits. And really, this bra is just too tall for me. My guess is that I'd have the same problem with the 28FF. That's not to say that I"m not looking for one that I can afford...
With this bra, it's the first time that I don't have the wrinkling at the bottom + the gaping at the top and it still gives a great shape.
I'm wondering if the 30F will give me the same great shape (+ a little less gaping) or if it will be distorted.

A tighter band might bring the top of a up more easily to your chest though.

I'll be looking for tighter bands, but I can't afford them at full price or really sale price, so I'll be looking around on here for one. But until then... I'll be working on fitting this one.
I do know, though, that the gaping will still be an issue for a tighter band because it is an issue even when I put on bras 1-2 cup sizes too small that are a 28 band. It gapes majorly unless I put my shoulders back, then I get super quadboob (if they're too small).
Since this is my first padded Freya bra, I'm not sure if going down a cup size will change the height of the cup enough to eliminate the need for me to alter the bra.I expect gaping, because, well that's my body, but would it still be noticeable? And would the straps still be in my armpits? I think that going down two cup sizes will eliminate the need for me to alter it, but wouldn't give me good support, would cut into my breast under my arm, would give me quadboob, and would just be uncomfortable. My experience with unpadded Freya bras tells me that the underwires can be too narrow for me in a 28FF as well (but I'd still like to try).
Right now, my best fitting bra is a full cup size too small because the gaping is less noticeable. I thought it was comfortable, but the cutting in at the side is becoming more noticeable the longer I wear it. I'm now willing to alter bras that are a close fit, so that's where all of this is coming from.
I'm sorry to ramble on, I'm just trying to put all of my thoughts about it out there to see if you have any other thoughts? I don't want another bra to dig into my ribcage or breast tissue under my arms just because I don't want to alter it.

Maybe you could take it to a seamstress or tailor and they could fix the straps. Then you don't have to worry about ruining your bra. That's the only thing I can find wrong with it.

helpfulIt seems that this has already been solved, but I just wanted to chime in that this is exactly how the 30FF Ivy looks on me--I personally solved it by going down a cup size. That said, there is still some gaping in the 30F on me, so it seems that this bra has wide-set straps, but it is better than in the 30FF. It's possible that (if you have narrow shoulders) you may have to alter it anyway, but the alteration won't work if the cup is too big already. I would try a cup size down if you can before altering, but that's just me.

I brought it in about 1/2 inch on each side and it fits perfectly. I'm concerned about a distorted/weird shape I get when the cup is too small in most bras. I do want to try it in a smaller size, but I know I'll get the orange in a glass effect. I'm just not sure if it will make me look weird.
Do you have this problem in all/most bras?

helpfulI have this problem also... do you have tear-drop shaped breasts? Many bras in DD+ styles seem to cater to rounder boobs, so it can be challenging for different shapes to get a good fit, IMO.
I find I just have to tighten the straps as much as possible (why I love fully adjustable straps).
Also remember to scoop all fat from the back & armpits into the cup. This can help fill out the top. When I do this enough, my boobs tend to retain that shape & the bra also starts to conform better to me in time. I've actually loosened the straps on bras that used to gap a bit after I "broke them in".
Another issue - if tightening the straps solves the problem, then you may be able to go down a band size, as needing straps very tight can mean the straps are being used too much for support. When you go down a band size, the cups change a bit even if the same volume - they often get a bit narrower & deeper, good for tear drop shaped breasts.
So go down a band & up a cup size. Try and order from a place that does free exchanges & shipping too. That way you can try different sizes in a style without losing money.Updated on September 2, 2013 Flag this
Yes, this is perfect! I don't even need the straps to be tight for it to fit perfect with it moved in just a tad!
Do you have a similar problem with most bras? Or just some?
