Bra fitting help » I don't know if this is a decent fit
Panache » Tango Ii Balconnet Bra (3251) » 30DD 30:5
Issue resolved
I have a 30E on the way. I will alter the cups and see if it works!
Original problem
I keep trying Tangos because I want a Tango balconnet to fit me; and I'm too dim-witted to accept that it is entirely the wrong shape for me. All the Tangos I've tried have managed to wrinkle in the nipple areas of the cups, cut into the tops of my breasts, and quad-boob and the tops and the sides...all at the same glamorous time.
This 30DD seems a better fit to me, but, I admit, Tangos make me delusional.
I love the Tango bra for its design, shaping, lightweight but supportive cups, seasonal color ways, relatively inexpensive price, and the fact this it's unlined, which is so much more comfortable than padded/moulded/lined cups.
I have yet to find a bra with fabric that "breathes" as much as the fabric of Tango, and I love the way the band is firm, but yields easily with movement. I never feel like I'm being suffocated by this band.
So here I am, trying again, with a bargain-priced Tango this is very possible the worst color ever for my skin tone. It's probably not apparent in the photos but this cool-toned Pink shade makes me look like my liver stopped functioning.
I want this bra to fit so badly my own judgement is clouded (not that I'm all the great at determining fit anyways). I'd love to try this bra in the new Jade Green or Tea Rose color ways, but if this size bra is all wrong for me I'm going to have to give up on Tango! I think I've run out of sizes to try.

helpfulThis one looks a bit better than your others. It seems to dig in a bit, but not as bad as some of your other ones. It's for sure too deep, but that's a pretty easy fix. I would really try out a 30E and then modify it like I said with the Make a Pointy Cup round modification. This will make the too big cup both lower and also get rid of the empty space by your nipples. You can also try the plunge version of this bra which has less depth to it.

helpfulNo help, but just wanted to empathise. I have exactly the same range of fit issues with every Tango I have ever tried and I never learn either. We should start a club!
Bravissimo have just released the most gorgeous graphite version with duck egg blue and fawn embroidery that I think is absolutely to die for, and, of course, I ordered it and, of course, I will be sending it straight back. Sigh.

helpfulThank you Jillsas! I don't feel confident about my size assessment until I get the "all clear" from you.
Now I'm sure I am really learning, too, because I noticed by myself the details you pointed out. When I first started attempting to find a good bra fit, I had no idea what was meant by "deep" and "pointy" and "rounded". (I thought they were "stylistic" terms, not literal fitting descriptions.) With this Tango, before I even posted this request, I thought maybe I should try it in a 30E. It's still strange and seemingly delusional for me to think of going up cups sizes with bras. It feels like my 5'2 self attempting to shop for clothing at Long Tall Sally.
In the 30DD, strangely, I do not have the emptiness and the "puckering" at the nipples as much, perhaps because the deeper cups are able to stretch around my tissue more than the smaller sizes? I didn't expect to fit into the tips at all, because the cups are deeper than any I've worn, but these cups actually feel quite snug. On my smaller, right side, I have more noticeable wrinkles at the tops of the cups, obviously, but the cups, rather than wedging into my tissue, are now pressing down on it, in a slightly more uniform way. I am now able to see that these cups are almost like "minimizers" for me (if that makes any sense). Rather than push my tissue "up" into a rounded, full-looking shape, these cups try to "squeeze" my boobs into a conical shape, (thus "orange in a glass"). I feel as though the underwires on this 30DD are not enclosing all of my breast tissue, which is also an epiphany of sorts.
I'm going to try a couple of practice runs at the Make a Pointy Cup Round modification with the Tangos I have. If I'm successful...well...30E here I come! This modification looks as though it can help "disguise" nipples in unlined bras, too. My nipples often show through some of my lined bras, so if I can manage the alteration, perhaps I can have more options in bra styles as well.
Also, when I'm able to, I will definitely try the "plunge" versions. I tend to get chills up my spine when I see the word "plunge" but I'm starting to understand that this is a visceral reaction left over from wearing hideous (truly miserable) bras for 30+ years.
THANK YOU JILLSAS! You have no idea how much I appreciate all of your help. You are one in a million!

Brava - The Tango Lonely Hearts Club!
I saw that damned graphite version on Bravissimo as well. Taunting me. Grrrr. ;)

The Tango only really works well in a limited size range. It also fails miserably at the large cup end of the spectrum, at least in small bands, but that doesn't stop every single bra store I go to trying to put me in one. This makes me think they mustn't get many people in around my size range, as I couldn't imagine it working on any actual body shape in this range. ;)
I can see why you'd want it to work- it's sturdy, it's made of nice material, and there are *so many colours*, including standbys like beige and black.
You actually have a better fit in Tango than a lot of people I've seen try it around your size range. I'd love to see it if you have a go at the pointy to round alteration

Ereshiy - Thank you! It makes me really, really happy to hear that. Sometimes I wonder if I'll ever begin to know where to start looking for suitable bras, but it seems I'm on the right track! So far I know I like my band size around 30 (sometimes 28), relatively "wide" underwires and tall sides. Now all I have to do is find a bra with those characteristics which also has cups that fit the shape of my boobs...Something like Tango, but not Tango. For moulded bras I do like the Porcelain Viva, but I don't wear moulded bras very often, and I don't really like them. Panache Jasmine is close to perfect...but 30D is too small in the wires and the depth (however, wearable and comfortable) but I think the cups on 30E would be way too tall.
Several months ago I took a "Classify Your Breasts" quiz at HerRoom. In nearly ever category of personal recommendation the first bra mentioned was Tango II. Now that I've gained some knowledge about sizing, I suspect this recommendation is somewhat bizarre. According to HerRoom, Tango is supposed to give my shallow breast tissue a "full round shape". I find it hard to imagine it giving any breasts full round shaping; unless the breasts are full and round to begin with! I feel it "lifts" beautifully; possibly the best of any bra I've yet tried. But the way the tops of the cups are shaped seems the antithesis of "rounded". On me they cut into and smash any of the tissue that tries to be "full" or "rounded".
I can't help but wonder if bra designers have been living on a different planet from those of us who wear their bras. ;)
