Bra fitting help » cups too big, or wrong shape?

Issue resolved
I got a very similar bra made by Whimsy (called Barbados) in a 32DD and it fits well. I still like the softness of the band of this VS one, so I also did eventually get it in 32DD. Fit and shape are much improved, so the DDD was simply too big! It's a keeper.
Thanks!
Original problem
This bra feels very comfortable, and at a glance it seems to fit, but I think the wires may extend about 1/2" too far beyond my breast tissue on the sides, and there is some wrinkling of the lace (you can see this on one of the side-angled pics) at the fullest parts of the cup. I was planning to return it for the next cup size down - good idea? or perhaps this cup shape/style is a bad match for me. I've never had a seamed cup or a demi cup before.

helpfulI hate to break this to you, but VS bras generally don't work when you actually try to size correctly. They end up being very full coverage, and only getting the VS oomph/sex appeal/whatever if you're wearing a too small size. I think a size down would be better for volume maybe, but it's definitely possible that a size down would end up being too small. I'd look into another brand altogether really if I were you. If you're looking for that sort of image without the limited size range, the Masquerade Antoinette (4381) could be a really good bra (I'd try it in 32E to start with). If you want an unpadded or sheer bra, I'd try out ones that have vertical seams instead of three part cups.

I just revisited my local bra shop and got two perfectly fitting demis with vertical seams in the size you suggested, Jillsas And plan to go back later for two others that surprisingly fit better in 32D.

That's good to hear. Glad that worked out for you.

helpfulHave you tried a Panache Tango II? Even though it's not a perfect fit for me it may be beautiful for you. The thing is, it has a great "uplift" effect. The VS bra in your picture basically just covers you, but it doesn't seem to give you any shape or support. Even though my size is smaller my shape seems similar to yours'. An unlined bra that works well for me is Panache Jasmine. You may also like Panache Andorra, which gives the most incredible lift of any bra I've ever come across. (By "lift" I don't mean that squished boobs look in VS catalogues; I mean all the tissue is in the cups comfortably, held in place, and shaped nicely, with no sagging).
Three part cups give the most "full-looking" cleavage. Chantelle has some two-part cup unlined bras.

Thank you for the recommendations! I haven't tried any Panache bras. I may have tried Chantelle at my local shop... it sounds familiar.

Panache are so comfortable, and they're much less costly than Chantelle. Their designs "get" that some women do NOT want push-ups or padding or bulk. Even their lined bras are lightweight in comparison to most "t-shirt" type bras. I'd be lost without Panache at this point.

helpfulIt looks to me like the wrinkling is only on the one side - is that true? If that's the case, and it doesn't show under clothes, you might consider this size pretty good. Are the wide wires uncomfortable? That's often the biggest problem with wires that are too wide. Whether the style suits you or not is another matter.

The wires are not uncomfortable at all. I can just tell that they extend past my breasts. I am barely aware that I'm wearing the bra! The wrinkling is very slight on one side, and much more noticeable on the other. Looks good under clothes except that the verticle seams show through.

I always think that as long as the bra is not uncomfortable and support isn't compromised, too-wide wires are the least of the fitting issues out there. :)

helpfulIt doesn't look like the wire is extending too far to me but you need to go with what is comfortable for you. I can only see wrinkling on one side so perhaps that side just needs the straps tightened? The bra itself seems to be fitting you nicely from the front view picture however as you pointed out the shape the bra gives you is probably not the best. I personally wouldn't go down a size as I imagine it would be too small. I would try another style.

Thanks. I did notice this seemed rather full-coverage for a supposedly demi cup, but that didn't bother me too much.. I like the pretty details and the padded straps and bands on the VS bras, but I actually am not at all looking for push-up or cleavage, both of which make me feel very self-conscious about my appearance. I thought to size down because of the wrinkling and too wide wires, but worried that maybe I'd get quadboob and still have wrinkling with the 32DD in this same style.
I very much prefer unpadded/unlined - that Antoinette is beautiful, but a bit too va-voom for me. Why do you suggest avoiding three-part cups? I ask because I really like the looks of this one from Freya, but it also has three-part cups. Freya Patsy Plunge Balcony Bra (1221)
