Bra fitting help » Is Wacoal 85567-34H cup too small/How does fit/shape compare w/other makers/mode
Wacoal » Awareness Full Figure Seamless (85567) » 34H 34:8
I am looking for fit feedback on the Wacoal 85567 and suggestions of bras to try based on the Wacoal 85567 almost fitting my difficult-to-fit small ribs and rounder/fuller breasts (although I discovered that the Wacoal 855192 in same size is clearly too-small cup). The Wacoal is one of the best-feeling and supporting bras I have ever tried on but I think it is too small because the center gore does not lie flat against the sternum, the cups don't quite fit/very slight quadboob feel (although not visible), and after wearing a few hours the underwire becomes too short on the side so that the fabric channel "enclosing" it has an inch or so free at the top and causes tissue to spill over and pinch. With my shape and dimensions, bras that fit the cups tend to not fit my ribcage but instead try to form a straight line and stick underwires into my arm. My preferences are to have a pretty good fit with a seamless/near seamless-appearance bra rather than the angular-shaped ones with seams all over. Any feedback appreciated.

helpfulI'm pretty sure Wacoal uses US sizing, which would make it equal to a UK 34FF (someone correct me if I'm wrong). You're going to be better off looking at brands that specialize in large cup sizes, since I'm going to estimate you at a UK 32H or HH, maybe even larger. It's hard to tell how far off it is because this bra is currently fitting you very poorly. You have 30" listed as your underbust measurement. If that is correct, 34 is likely too big for you. This problem may be disguised by the fact that the cups are way too small. If you can re-check your breast perimeter, that may be helpful too. 17" seems too large unless this bra is fitting even worse than the pictures are showing.

I think I have to re-measure; I recently gained weight and wrote down the ribcage measurement I had before that (under the excuse that the same bras whose bands felt right then felt right now, and the same ones who felt wrong then felt wrong now). I don't know what I was thinking! I know from sewing you never lie about measurements!
The Wacoal 85567 does technically fit a lot worse than it seems, which I didn't realise for a while and don't quite know how to describe.
The hidden issues with the 85567 became more apparent to me when I got a couple of what I thought would be nearly identical Wacoal 855192s but the cups just didn't fit like those of the 85567, and the problems were an exaggeration of those from the 85567. Basically, the cups being too small had a result of squeezing my under-cleavage together, the gore didn't get particularly near my sternum, and the top of the best-fit-I've-had-so-far 85567 was also too small. Bought a bunch of the 85567s because a) I am desperate and b) the Wacoal gives great support and feels good and makes me feel normal. So it will do unless and until I find something that actually fits, I guess.
I have been trying to use that ONE bra that almost-fits to find others (before I discoverd bratabase) and that has produced confusing results.
A friend who went bra shopping with me and knows a lot more about bras told me that Wacoal's sizing is weird; and my experience confirms that (wish I remembered in what way weird).
The Wacoal 85567 size 34 band that is ever so slightly tight on me in Wacoal is positively loose (two sizes too big) in a Freya Fever 3330 bikini top. A Fantasie 4510 32I (US) band and cup width are perfect but cups way too small.
A Freya Deco 32GG that I was a cup size or two out of but bought anyway because it was that or nothing, the band fit beautifully (before I gained weight).
When I got it, a Panache Sport 5021 32GG seemed to fit perfectly and almost didn't bounce at all (I hear that with a good sports bra there is NO movement but I have trouble having faith in that with my buidl) before I gained the weight; now the other one I got (34G because it was what they had) fits better than the 32GG.
I wonder if my cup size may be larger than I had initially thought (The Wacoal 85567 34H were from a Nordstrom employee who measured me, although she neglected to tell me my size, and brought me at least two different sizes. If only I'd written them down! Next time). I still prefer the 85567 to something that is full of seams and triangular if that is the only size open to me, but I still hope to find something that truly fits.

Thank you both for helping with my questions.

Since it sounds like you need to re-measure anyway, I recommend trying http://www.sizemapp.com/en/. It gives a pretty good starting point for most people. It's good that you have a Nordstrom near you so you can try on some things without having to do all your shopping online. It's best to go in with a good idea of what you need though, because from what I've heard their fitting service is hit or miss.

helpfulMaybe something from the Sculptresse brand? You don't look like you have a great need for narrow underwires and to my knowledge, Sculptresse doesn't have overly wide underwires or overly narrow underwires. I'm sorry that I can't help you any further, but I'm hoping someone closer to your size and shape will fill in and tell me if I'm completely wrong or not I don't think I am.

Thank you for your help with my question.
I will look up Sculptresse.
What does a narrow underwire mean?
I suspect that I may need a narrow-diameter but very-full-cup because of my small ribcage and shoulders, not really sure.
-
A narrow underwire is an underwire that has a smaller diameter than most underwires in a certain size :) Relatively narrower basically. If you're not sure, just experiment a little and you'll probably find out what you're most comfortable with :) It's not uncommon to need narrow underwires, I do too because my frame is really small, my shoulders are barely bigger in width than a kitchen chair.
-
Thanks! From your description (and from the number of bras whose cups seem to wrap halfway around my back), I suspect that I may need narrower underwires, too.
-
I really think you do too when you phrase it like that.

helpfulHmm..I think you need a 34J?How is the band on you?You might want to try a 32 band, but not if the 34 is comfortable. From what I remember from trying on a few Wacoal bras the bands run firmer.
I think alisa would have a much better idea of what would work for you than I.Updated on November 8, 2013 Flag this

The Wacoal 85567's 34 band is great on me (as is their 855192). I have been told that Wacoal's sizing is weird (and she knew in what way but I can't remember), and my attempts to generalise from my Wacoals have produced inconclusive results.
I fit a 30 band in a swimsuit top (Freya Fever 3330) which I think is unusual (their cups are super-wide and their bands seem looser than other bands with the same number)
The 32 band on a Panache 5021 sport (32GG) fit before I gained weight and now the 34G I had gotten fits better than the 32GG.
I am guessing that I am a 32 in some brands and a 34 in others (and I am a 30 in that Freya swimsuit, but certainly not in the Freya Deco 32GG -- before the weight gain 32 was good; now it's probably 34 with the Freya Deco)
I think that I would be a cup size up but Wacoal don't make them in this model. If I try to go up a band size in the Wacoal I will run into trouble with my small ribcage/shoulders.
Thank you for your help, and sorry it's taking me a while to answer.

helpfulSo, a 34H Wacoal isn't really equivalent to a 34FF in UK sizing. The Wacoal Awareness is known for having more generous cups. It's at least 2-3 cup sizes larger than anything I've tried in an FF UK cup. It's definitely weird with sizing. The H in this cup is too big for me, but a Claudette in equivalent FF is about 4 cup sizes too small. I think Natori is more consistent with UK sizing, and perhaps their H cups are closer to an FF in UK. Same with Le Mystere, which uses US sizing when sold here. To me, an H cup in Natori feels like a DD or maybe a DDD in Wacoal. So, the Awareness has has been the only bra I've been able to wear comfortably in the past 6 years, and it's really the only one I know well.
To illustrate, here's me in a 34FF Claudette:

And here's Natori:

I will try to put up some pictures of Wacoal Awareness later to show how much bigger their cup sizes are.
Because this bra has spacer-like fabric, I think it can accommodate different kinds of shapes. Like you, I find the Awareness in particular very comfortable. I have the opposite problem in this bra, though. I'm bottom heavy, so all the weight goes to the bottom of the cup. The top of the cups, however, are not quite full, and the fabric comes all the way up to my clavicle. But a size down from the H is too small. You look like you have much more upper fullness than I do.
To me, this looks too small for you. Unfortunately, Wacoal only goes up to an H cup, so this brand just may not work. And the Awareness is notoriously generous in the cups, even more than their other models. I'm finding that I'm going to need anywhere from a GG to a J to fit myself in UK sizes, but that Wacoal model kind of works for me. I think you will likely need larger sizes than I will. You seem to have more all around fullness and depth.
In terms of comfort, I've been told that Elomi is a good brand for narrow shoulders. I can't tell if yours are narrow or not, but straps set close together are good for comfort if that's part of what you're looking for. I think it's going to end up being my go-to brand. Their Amelia spacer has been recommended by several people. It's the same kind of bra as this one, but it would go up much further in cup size than an H. From what I've tried on, their bands seem to run a bit tighter than Wacoal. Some of their models go down to a 34 (and maybe 32?), so perhaps something from Elomi may be good for you? Goddess also has some models in similar cuts.

To confirm that Wacoal uses US sizes, their H cup would correspond roughly to a UK FF cup.
