Bra fitting help » Too tall wings under arm chafing
Fantasie » Kara Underwired Full Cup Bra (2092) » 34GG 34:10
Issue resolved
I sold the bra and am trying other ones.
Original problem
The wings are too tall and straps set too wide causing chafing under arms.
The band causes welts after wearing for more than a few minutes. Most underwire bras slip down after sitting.
I'm 5'1 and 173 lbs.

helpfulIf you can I'd try out a 36FF and then compare the fit. This is likely too big and it's obviously too tight in the band. Otherwise I'd try something else because this just might not be right for you shape wise.

Definitely something with narrower wires and deeper cups, even other Fantasie bras that aren't full cups (like their four part balconies and that kind of thing) would be better. You might be able to pull off Freya. Bravissimo's unpadded balconettes might work out too. Things like the Cleo Meg, Bella etc... might also (but not the Marcie, since you appear to be full on bottom, and not the Lucy since it looks like you have projection).

Yeah, it definitely looks like the cups are just too much material. Sizing down would probably help. And your comfort is always the most important thing, so if it feels too tight, no matter what "Da Rules" say, it's too tight :)
And, as far as shape goes, you may want to try balconette styles. With those I rarely get chafing, and they may be able to flatter your shape better :)

helpfulAlthough I tend to wear Fantasie, I can't wear their full cups because of the chafing underarm, as you describe. I find most of their bra straps are too wideset (but I haven't found any brands that are better that have a cup size I need). Look at photos on Herroom.com for strap arrangement or look for leotard back in the description. You want straps that angle toward the hooks, not ones that go straight down from the shoulder to the band. Hard to find, I know. Or look for tutorials on altering the straps (I will confess I can't figure out the tutorials but I don't sew).
Avoid Fantasie Sarah! That's my latest--love the colors--forgot to check the strap placement. Rats!
Kara looks like the gore is too wide on you--look for bras where the gore is not only narrow at the top but narrower all the way down. This bra looks east/west on you--not sure what you prefer but the more forward the cups the less you might have underarm chafing. I'll make a huge announcement to the world when I find the bra that fits us short people without chafing! As for slippage, you might need to shorten the straps.

I agree about the gore being too wide at the bottom and it is too tall for me. The straps in the back are fine, it is where they attach at the front that I have trouble near the crease in my armpits. They don't slip off my shoulders, in fact I usually have them so tight to keep the bra from slipping down my torso when I sit that I have some grooves in my shoulders. I have a Flirtelle 34G that fits everywhere but the band still slips down when I sit after an hour or so even with the straps pulled very tight. It too leaves welts about an inch or so under where the wires should fit on me.

helpfulYou should try the Panache Andorra Full-cup: http://www.bratabase.com/browse/panache/andorra-full-cup-5675/34H/
It's got stretch lace on the top, which might work better for you, and it also brings the breasts to the front and has a narrower center gore. If you want the full-cup look, that would probably be the best type for you.

I agree I need a much narrower gore. And it looks like it has more room under the arms as well. If I can find one, I'll try your suggestion. I think part of my issue is how short I am. To keep a bra up in the crease under my breasts I have to make the straps super short which pulls the bra up under my armpits. My breasts are set pretty high even though they are saggy.

That's what I plan on doing. Any suggestions for a brand/style? I agree this one isn't right for my body.
