Bra fitting help » Fit Check: Cups chafing armpits, not sure wire placement/width, boobs feel wide

Issue resolved
I think I might end up selling this one since I took the tags off, but we'll see.
Original problem
This is my first attempt at a true bra size and I feel like it's off. The top outer edges of the cups rub my armpits pretty brutally, but if I loosen the straps the cups gape at the top (and gape whenever I move my arms forward in any manner). I've tried so many bras and sizes and I can't seem to find anything that's right -- my boobs seem too wide in everything.

helpfulI have limited experience, but I'm in your size range (30Gish) so I thought I'd pop in. I have the same issue with a lot of bras - the outer edge of the cup cuts into my armpits. I think it's a combination of having higher set breasts and narrow shoulders so all the straps are too wide for me, and you look similar. It happens to me in Freya's Deco and balconette plunges and Cleo's Lucy as well as in the Change bras I have. HOWEVER it doesn't happen in my Tutti Rouge Betty or in my Freya longline.
Sooo have you tried any halfcup styles from Freya (eg. Freya Nieve Longline (4063) Freya Patsy Padded Half Cup Bra (1223) Freya Lauren Padded Half-cup (4821) Freya Hopscotch Padded Longline Bra (1633) Freya Fan-tastic Padded Half Cup Bra (1513) ? It may be worth a shot.

helpfulIt's not the size,it's the style and shape.I used to have a favorite bra that is styled similarly to this and it has shallow cups and wider wires and lace on the side and is a plunge. It worked well in the smaller size, but somehow my breasts weren't quite as shallow as they used to be and in my new size,I had all those fit issues you are talking about.Once I tried an Ewa Michalak Ch,that had the same cup size as my old one,but the shape was perfect for me and it had projection, those issues went away.I'm not particularly projected either, but really shallow rarely works for me.

helpfulIf you like this bra, try it in a 34E. That should help with the wideness and gaping. No guarantees. You have to try on a lot of bras and sizes to figure out what fits, sorry.

helpfulI had the exact same problem with my Casey. I just cut off the irritating top of the cup (basically that little triangle shaped area), sewed it back together, and reattached the straps. MUCH better now, and I dare say its my favourite bra.

I agree. You should definitely try the Freya longlines. They are really well shaped. Way back when I was a 30FF I LOVED that bra!
