Curvy Kate » Tease Me Padded Bra (SG2001) » 30DD 30:5
Despite bratabase recommendimg a 28F as a starting point I believed that was too big and was tols to try a 30DD.
So here I am
Firstly, the band is massive, as shown pictured on tightest hooks.
The bra wire pokes at my sternum, it sits om tissue when I swoop and scoop so I jiggle it a bit to settle it in the middle and then it hurts my bone. The wire alsp hurts under my arm, it is much too wide and pokes painfully into my ribs, but most say it hurts if it is on tissue though I'm sure in my case it isn't. However, it also doesn't keep the highest part of my boob inside when I move so the top ends up a bit empty too.
I find the cups squash the sides of my boobs, which I found haed to photograph.
The straps have to be really tight which in turn, pulls the band up further and I still do not end up with my boobs being where they should be.
Any ideas with sizes and bras to try? Also, again, anything you can tell me about my boobs I.e. narrow, wide, high, low blah blah
Thanks!

helpfulThe reason bratabase suggests a 28F is because of your breast perimeter. You might want to remeasure that.
I also think you have narrow roots and breasts that are more projected. Your breast perimeter has to come from somewhere, if you need narrow wires the perimeter is in the projection. I am thus thinking that you could try some bras that are more projected. Freya unpadded bras would be easy to get, also maybe Panache Andorra Fullcup. Try around a 30DD.
The Curvy Kate Tease me is simply a bad bra for you, it is too shallow and too wide. The volume is not too bad, but the volume distribution does not work for your shape.

"I think I definitely need a 28 band as all 30 bands uncomfortably ride up at the back"
Please keep in mind that the Tease Me runs very stretchy in the band. I would not rule out 30 bands per se, because there are brands (e.g. unpadded Cleos) that run tighter.

helpfulHi there! From my experience, the tease me is not a very good bra for people on the smaller end of the Curvy Kate size range. The wires on this bra in this size are actually quite narrow, so I think you have narrow roots if this is too wide. But the pain from the armpit could be because the wires are not flexible, so they are bending strangely and the side of the of it (the thinner side of the underwires) are hurting your ribs. You also look quite shallow and have medium/wide set boobs. The only brand that I can think of that has very narrow wires is Comexim, so perhaps you could try them?
Many people also recommend the Cleo Juna (6461) for shallow boobs, especially around your size range. The vertical seams would work well and lift your boobs. I think that would be a better bra for you than the tease me. I'd say you should definitely try that in a 28F based off your measurements.Updated on March 16, 2014 Flag this

I'm a bit confused... if I was to have medium/wide set boobs, is it possible to have narrow roots? When lifted to where they should be there's only approx. 1.5cm space between my boobs and then underneath my boobs stop on the front of my chest and quite dramatically taper up and do definitely finish on the side of my ribcage, I think this is why I struggle. I take my measurements from the furthest point of breast tissue on my side to where it stops at my sternum hence why I get say a 28F suggestion. But it's the lowest point of my boobs where I get the empty cup as my boobs tapered up way before then. If you get me. I feel if my boobs didn't go up onto the sides then I'd have only a C cup or something. I'm definitely shallow, the tissue starts quite high up, but I do have more immediate projection than being quite even. I tried the Freya just flew in longline in a 28F and the open cup is definitely for me. My boobs weren't as squashed at the sides either but the wires were still too wide! Thanks for your comment!

Yes, wide set tends to mean narrow roots, while close set tends to mean wider roots. It's not always the case, but for you it is. How I think about it is, if the roots are wide they will cover more of the chest and meet at the center, if they are narrow they cover less and don't meet in the middle. I looked at your other fit help since on this one, the gore is covering up how much of your root I can see. From your PL Onyx, it looks like you have an inch or so between your boobs.
Freya also tends to run a little bit larger than most other bra companies, but their wires are wide in the half cups. If the 28F fit you, you may even want to try a 28FF in the Juna. I know you can get free shipping and returns on Amazon, so it's probably not a loss to just try it out :)

I had to come back to this as I was just talking to a friend with similar fit problems and it reminded me of your post here. I think I only just understood what you were saying about the tapering i.e. that the breast root is almost V shaped. So the underside of your breast tapers down into a narrow curve, again almost like a V. Does this make any sense? But this doesn't stop the upper half of your breasts from being wider, as you know. My friend has now launched into a project altering some bras to sort of rotate the wires in toward the center more, but I would also think you might want to try wire free styles (don't panic, some have firm contoured cups that still do lift and separate!) which are more amenable to molding to your actual shape, and/or looking for bras with wires that end very low, so you only have to worry about them fitting under the lower curve under the breast. You'd have to get comfortable with the idea of the upper breast tissue not being INside an underwire, but honestly speaking as someone who used to wear very low demis on a regular basis there is really nothing wrong with this unless you're going to be jogging or doing aerobics.

helpfulYou have gaping when you move because your muscles toughen and pull the cup away from your body. Soft stretchy cups (or their upper part) will work better for you.

helpfulIt also sounds to me like you are narrow and projected with short vertical roots.
For projected bras, I would recommend trying the Panache Jasmine, perhaps in 30D (I can wear a 30DD when I'm at my largest, which is closer to a 30E/F), or an Ewa Michalak HM or HP (but I suspect more of her styles will work with narrow roots).
The Cleo Juna that Noob suggested might be a good starting point too. My Cleo Karen is the best non-projected bra that I've tried. I get the same gaping that you do with the Tease me, and I never got that with the Karen which is quite similar to the Juna. The Panache Andorra, I will second as well. This was the first bra that I ever tried that didn't gape or wrinkle in the fabric. I think a 28 or 30 band will work (you might need an extender at first with the 28 band), but it might give you a very pointy shape. Essentially, the Andorra is the shallow version of the Jasmine.
As for Comexim, I've tried two of their bras, and they both have some gaping at the top. I think if you have issues with the Tease Me, you might have to get a custom Comexim and reduce the height of the cup.

My breast perimeter standing is about 23cm. Whereas if I bend over it's 24cm and they fall higher on my chest which is where they would be if I had a perfect fitting bra. The Curvy Kate definitely flattens my chest and holds them lower than they could be. When I bend over my breasts are quite projected, especially at the bottom. Though, when lifted do generally have an even fullness to them. I think I definitely need a 28 band as all 30 bands uncomfortably ride up at the back and the straps really hurt my shoulders whem tightened to get any lift. Thanks for your comment, I will look into those bras. I have a Freya Jessica in 30DD so I will do a fitting help for that too.
