Selling this bra
Original problem
t_maia Asked that I post pictured of myself in this bra in the 38J. There is slight quad-boob with my right breast. Also, the shape isn't ideal for me, BUT it's not so bad that I would dismiss this bra because of it, if it fit otherwise. My favorite shapes so far have come from Cleo Lucy, Elomi Eva, and Elomi Amelia. (But none have fit me properly)

helpfulIf the band is borderline too tight, perhaps that is why the wire is biting into you at the side. Have you tried it with an extender? (EDITED: SORRY I AM AN IDIOT AND DIDN'T SEE THE EXTENDER)
As for the top of the cups--I could be going blind, but I don't see any quad boob at all...
Are we operating with different definitions of it perhaps? To me quadboob means there is a really big, obvious dent in the line of the upper bosom such that when you are wearing clothes it looks like you have a second set of mini boobs growing on top of the original boobs (hence the expression quadboob).
I do see people here mentioning quadboob any time the line of the cup is not 100% perfectly flush with the rest of the breast tissue. I think this can be a bit misleading to people who are new to finding bras that fit. If the indent is not visible in clothes, you like the shape it gives you, and it is comfortable and supportive over long periods of time, I don't think a tiny indent that can't be seen through a shirt is a significant issue, unless it's your personal pet peeve.

Possibly! This design also just doesn't seem sturdy enough for this size range, regardless of height of cup or wire width. In a J (and more so a 38J) you want good quality nonstretch materials, 4 part cups, inner support slings... all that good stuff.
-
wendybien Do you have any suggestions on 4 part cups with support slings that I can look up? Thanks!
-
Does the original poster feel like it is quad boob, because of the stretchy lace? I can see a slight bump where technically breast is enclosed but the lace appears a little too stretchy. Which goes back to what was said above that a better constructed bra, may help. :)
-
isoperfectbra I know you've tried a lot of bras so I will look at your list snd try to think of some that you haven't tried yet! Maybe you could start a Bra Adventure thread about 4-part cups, ask people to list all the ones they know.
-
About the quad-boob...Yes I can see it under clothes, No it's not obvious in the picture.
-
wendybien , I just tried on a bunch of bras, and I think I am going to settle for a few of them. It appears the ones I'm going to keep are going to keep me "in", however, the wires wrap pretty far. This doesn't mean that I'm finished with my journey, because these bras aren't necessarily perfect, BUT, like I said, they hold me in. I like the shapes they give, and they seem comfortable. I am getting ready to add them to "my Bras", they are the Elomi Eva 40HH, Elomi Persia 40HH, and I'm debating on whether or not to keep the Elomi Izzy. I will need to wear it a little longer to see if 1) the gore hurts, and 2) If I get any spillage from the top.
-
Also, Cleo Marcie in 38J. It holds me in, I like the shape, but since there's more projection than I like, I think it will be good under tank tops or low cut shirts.
-
wendybien , I just realized something...I'm pretty sure all these Elomis I might keep are 4-part, though not sure about support slings. And they seem to rub me in the front armpit area. Do you think this will get better after a washing? If not, then I may need to send them back.
-
I just spent like 20 minutes looking through your entire list of bras lol! The Elomis you mention, and the Jasmine, for example, are all 4 part cups.
I just wanted to point out something about uplift--a bra that really supports and lifts the breast has to lift the breast TO somewhere, and this is why some models appear to you to give too much projection.... The reality is you can't really have proper uplift without projection, unless the bra is achieving uplift by lifting in the other direction--compressing the tissue against the chest wall somewhat. The thing is that with soft tissue, compression often means a slight line at the edge of the cup. It's just physics. I feel like your quest to avoid any indent at all AND to avoid a lot of projection is kind of (mis)leading you in the direction of too large cups, which causes other problems of lack of support, wrinkling, wide wires, too-tall gores that cause discomfort, etc. So, ultimately you may need to sort of just give it some time and decide which is the lesser of two evils! I know the projected look takes some getting used to--I just got a Kris Line bra that my husband accused of giving me a "missile shape" lol. But it really looks perfectly OK under clothing and ultimately, while we may have a personal preference for a more compact vs a more projected look, I would take the least favored shape over pain or discomfort any day.
-
I see what you're saying, it just sucks, because I do prefer the compressed look, but without that indention. *sigh* I think I'll just keep the Elomi Eva for now, try a smaller cup in the Persia. Maybe if I were the type of woman to wear "dressy" clothes, the projected look wouldn't be so bad, but I just wear t-shirts all the time and the projected look gives me a "boxy" shape when I do and makes me feel uncomfortable (mentally). So either way I may be stuck feeling uncomfortable either physically or mentally. I appreciate all of your help you've gone above and beyond anyone could ask for on here.
-
Oh, I hear you about the boxy shape! The thing about discovering properly fitted bras is that it changes the whole shape of your body, so it kinda forces you to change the type of clothes you wear. I'm only an FF/G cup, and believe me, if I wear a shirt that is cut straight up and down, I look boxier than Big Bertha the Battleship. However, V necks, faux wrap designs and shirts that are more fitted at the waist (not tight, but just a little bit nipped in) usually look much better. If you are modest and don't like figure hugging stuff, I highly recommend getting discounted cotton button downs or blouses that fit your bust and then spending a few bucks to get them altered in at the waist a little. It's not expensive and it's a very flattering look without making you feel exposed.
Good luck!

love this comment! agree 'quadboob' is thrown around egregiously....sometimes a very small amount of overspill is a little fit quibble like any other fit quibble and we should all calm down about it a little bit.

helpfulGiven as the bra is cutting into you on the top and sides, and you also mentioned the band being too tight, have you considered maybe going up a cup size in this bra? Or trying to put it on backwards without your boobs altering how the fit of the band may be?

Yes, I've tried the 38JJ and the 38K. None fit good. The JJ and K didn't provide good support, like they the cups were too "loose". It is not unusual for me to have some quad-boob, I suspect because my have soft tissue. I find that I'm running into this problem a lot, the cup size is either too large, with wires wrapping around too far, and not very supportive, and if I size down, I get cut into.
-
Hmm, have you considered trying bras with narrower underwires?
This link might be a good starting place if you haven't

If you have, what cup width did you find worked best? -
I've got S Porcelanka on order from EM currently. I haven't tried any EMs yet. I haven't tried any of the specific Panache ones listed under "Good". This model in bravissimo is the first of theirs I've tried. I have tried the Freya Arabella in 38J.Here was my review of it: "38J, Although the gore stuck out and the cups seemed too small, there was wrinkling in the top and it didn't feel very supportive. I was able to wear it on the tightest hooks. I measured the gore height as 4.5" and the cup separation as 3/4" wide. I don't think I'll try another size in this one." I tried the Masquerade Rhea in 38H, I liked it, liked the shape and everything, but it was too small, I had quad-boob. I don't think I've tried any of the Curvy Kates listed under "good". So far the only Curvy Kate that *may* work for me is the Lola, but the larger sizes are on back order right now. I had a couple Curvy Kates that may have worked, Daisy Chain, and Gia, but the gores hurt too bad.
-
Well, that sounds good. Have you tried the Rhea in a size up? What was it about the gores of the Daisy Chain and Gia that hurt? If you could pinpoint what it was, you might be able to ask some one if they had something similar to those styles but with X different. (I'm maybe getting a little hypothetical here, but you never know.)
-
I couldn't find the Rhea in a size up. The Gia and the Daisy Chain...I could possibly try these in a 40 band and it may help them to not be as painful, I'm not sure. It just felt like the ends (tops) of the center gore just dug in and irritated me. Would going up a band size help with this possibly?
-
That's too bad. I believe if the tops are digging into you that means the gore might be too high. Going up a band size might help, but if you find you've had the same problem with other bras of the same, or similar gore height, changing the band size might not fix the problem.

helpfulhon, there's NO quadboob!
and you could maaaaybe go down one cup size.Updated on May 19, 2014 Flag this

Erm, it looks like she already about to spill out of the sides, I don't think going *down* a cup is the answer.
-
No, she's got some extra room at the sides and on top, esp with the extender. I really don't see where she's 'about to spill out.'
I'm not SURE she could go down, but I def don't think she can go up a cup in this bra -- as she already said, she tried that anyway and it didn't work.
-
If you look at the 3rd set of pictures, the ones of her side, you can see she's still got quite a bit of breast tissue that isn't being completely contained in the wires and cups.
I definitely wouldn't suggest going up a cup in *this* particular bra. I think the problem with this bra is mostly that it's the wrong shape for her. I think she's probably good with the size- a 38J or JJ in a different style should be a better fit.
-
No, with all due respect, that's axillary tissue -- could be breast tissue, could be fat, or a combination. But it's close enough to her armpit that she cannot 'scoop' it in. You shouldn't be squishing out at the sides willy-nilly, of course, but if a bra is containing ALL your axillary tissue, that means it's also coming up high enough on your armpits to cause you discomfort there -- and it's a very sensitive area, i've had bras (that were too big in the cup) do this to me and it sucks.
Actually in some of the pics (like the 6th) you can see a little wrinkling in this area. There's a little wrinkling all over, actually -- not a lot. But that plus the very pointy shape are indications to me of a cup that could be one cup size too big. Or like you said it could be a shape issue. But aside from the little bit of pointiness, this is a good fit! My point is, there's no quadboob.
-
You're not alone, I'm really not seeing any quadboob either. I do think OP might benefit from narrower wires and a taller cup though.
