Bra fitting help » freya patsy half cup 36e top gapes shallow wide root breasts
Freya » Patsy Padded Half Cup Bra (1223) » 36E 36:6
Issue resolved
Ordered a size & cup down, fits much better
Original problem
This bra felt comfortable everywhere except for not being able to fill the top of the cup. The band is pretty stretchy and I used the middle set of hooks. I've scooped & swooped & shimmied & shaked but just don't fill the top, the bottom seems fine. I like the feel of the bra, wish I could find something that I can actually fill the top of the cups, almost all the bra's I've tried gape at the top a little to a lot, it's like the tissue on top is so soft it has no volume. helpfulCan I ask a dumb question? Under "breast shapes" you entered both "wide root" and "narrow root." Does this mean you aren't sure of your shape?
It looks to me like your shape is somewhat projected and full, average-ish width, but not very "tall." In other words most of your breast tissue is concentrated over a small vertical height, but its horizontal distribution is average or perhaps a little wide. If you are this shape, the majority of bra designs with deep-enough cups will be too tall for your breasts--you need low cut cups, or else cups which are cut wider than they are tall.
A lot of British brands label bras "demi" or "half cup" when the cups are really are almost full height. There are also lovely half cup designs, usually padded, that are truly low cut but also very shallow. Neither of these is very likely to work for you. Polish brands do a lot of truly low-cut cups (on you they will be pretty modest of course since you won't have much tissue showing above the cup edge). French brands like Simone Perele, Lejaby, Chantelle, etc. also make them quite low-cut and these are easier to find in department stores in the US for example.

helpfulIt looks like the cups are one or two sizes too big. If the band is too big, then maybe you should try a 34E and 34DD just so you can compare the two. If you're on the middle hook, then 34 might be too tight, so if you want to try it, I'd suggest getting an extender as well just in case.

helpfulIf you really like the fit of a 36" band, go down to a DD or even a D and see how that fits you. A 34E would likely fit you better though (although the E cup might possibly still be a bit too loose for you, not sure).
Is there a store near you where you can actually try bras on? That would be perfect, if there is. Then you're not out anything except time. The only other suggestion I could make is to find an online store that will send you different sizes to try on and will actually take the ones back that won't fit. I know that's a pain, but it's the only thing I can think of if you can't get to a store.

Unfortunately there is only 1 store that sells anything with a cup above DD and only Wacoal brand at that. I've been using Amazon trying to find things to try that have free shipping & returns. I'll just trying!

I do love Amazon for that. They usually offer free shipping and returns - usually. Have you looked at figleaves, or barenecessities, or herroom? Those are other websites that offer different bras/styles, though I'm not sure what their return policies are.

I actually got this one at barnecessities, it was on their clearance sale with free shipping and return, so I just send it back.

helpfulSize down. I'd try a 36DD personally, though a 34E wouldn't be too bad.

You are right that I'm not sure, but what you say make sense about not much vertical tissue. I will look into those brands, thank you.
