Wonderbra » Ultimate Strapless Lace Bra (9475) » 30G 30:9
Issue resolved
As it was for a temporary thing, I used a non-strapless bra that fits perfectly (Freya Deco 28GG), then alter to make it tighter so the band wouldn't move, before making it hold on to the dress.
So far, I have tried on :
- Wonderbra Ultimate strapless 30FF & 30G (30G gave me a weird shape, 30FF was too small)
- Panache Porcelain strapless 28G (the band was already to large and the cups way too small, so didn't bother trying the 30G)
- Gossard Superbra Satin Plunge (bought the lovely gold/ capuccino colour, but it didn't hold anything with my shape once the straps removed)
- Freya Taylor strapless 30G (the best fit for the overall size, but not enough support on the side)
- Freya Deco strapless 30G (cups coming up too high on my chest)
- M&S strapless 30G (band so large that you could fit another one like me).I am still on the quest of the best strapless bra.
The next ones will be :
Ewa's & Comexim's strapless (which actually both do smaller bands!).All the tips for sewing really helped me for this time, and I will obviously be trying some of the brands I've been advised.
Thanks to everybody!
Original problem
I am usually a 28GG/26H, but for a strapless, the options are limited.. and I have been properly fitted only recently.
I tried the Freya strapless in 28G, 30G, 30FF.. none of them were a good fit, so I thought I will try Wonderbra.
The problem, as for the Freya, is that I might need extra side support, but don't know which brand(s) would be suitable.
Here're the problems :
- my breast come high on my torso, so I don't have much space between my boobs and my shoulders (as you can see, when Im wearing a simple strappy top, you can see a lot of the bra, so I don't imagine with a strapless top).
- I am full at bottom, but not at all on top.
- my boobs are very far apart and start under my arms (so my boobs tend to escape on the side, it's very uncomfortable, as there is no side support with these bras).
- one of my boob is about 1 cup smaller, so I can't really wear non-moulded cups, as it tends to look like a double-boob on one side and an empty cup on the other side.I tried the 30FF of the same Wonderbra, and it is too small, making quad-boob.
Im a bit desperate, as I am a maid of honor in August, and I still didn't find the bra I could wear with the strapless dress I am supposed to wear.
I guess than more of a sizing issue, it is a shape issue.
I thought that a balconet style would work, but as I am not sure and I've already been trying a lot of bras, I'd rather be advised first.Any help would be more than welcome.

helpfulI had the same experience with the Wonderbra Strapless bra peeking out of clothing. I tried three sizes. I'm full on top with tall roots and lots of volume on the sides. Being very petite causes most bras to be fuller coverage than marketed. Ewa Michalak's strapless works well for me. Their strapless bras not only have low coverage cups, but also plunge center gores. In my size, the gores are only 1.5" or so high, which is what my boobs need. I get an unnerving amount of cleavage, but I'm not used to cleavage. My boobs are apparently very firm and average in projection. By boobs are reluctant to create cleavage, though there is no space between them. If you have a lot of space between your boobs, you may not have to worry about excess cleavage, either.
It appears you want a white strapless. The two that would probably suit you are:
Mleczny Strapless (http://www.ewa-michalak.pl/product-eng-87-Mleczny-Strapless.html)
Strapless Slubny (http://www.ewa-michalak.pl/product-eng-187-Strapless-Slubny.html)
If you order either in 30G, it might be tight enough. Unfortunately they don't have either in stock. They quote 14 days to make, and then it generally takes about a week to be delivered to me in California. I don't know where you are, though. I believe you might be able to special order either in 28GG, but that might take even longer. The company's willingness to do special sizes, however, seems subject to change.
I have the Strapless Toffi, a kind of caramel color, and the Strapless Black in 65F, which are about equivalent to UK 30F. Even with my tall roots and side volume, they work well. I'm reluctant to recommend the solution I eventually found, though, because Ewa Michalak is notorious for their customer service and shady pricing practices.
I was at first unnerved by the low coverage of Ewa's Strapless Toffi in 65F. I then ordered the 65FF in the Strapless Toffi and Strapless Black. Both fit well. The difference was higher coverage cups, though still lower coverage than most UK brand bras in 30FF. The gores are still comfortably low. There is less cleavage.
Ewa's strapless bras' cups are made of a stiff foam that is not pushup. As I recall, the foam's thickness is equivalent to that of the Wonderbra Strapless Bra's. Thus further alterations of your bridesmaid dress would probably not be needed.
You are an awfully good sport to allow your sister to specify a strapless bridesmaid dress. I would've simply refused, given your circumstances.
If you don't want to risk the wait from Ewa Michalak, you may want to post a Bra Adventure, asking if anyone has a 28GG or 30G Ewa Michalak white strapless they're interested in selling.
A blogger who calls herself eternalvoyageur reviewed the Ewa Michalak Strapless Toffi here:
http://www.venusianglow.com/2012/10/review-ewa-michalak-toffi-strapless-in.html
She is a very different size from you, and her review is for a 65D, but, like you, she is full on bottom, with good space between her boobs, and wide roots.

helpfulHave you tried the goddess 689 longline? It's really tricky to fit so I recommend finding someplace to try it on but the band runs super tight (I'm a 32, and the 36 is still very snug in that one)

No, but I will try to find it then. Thanks!

If you can't find it I'm stores to try it on, it's on amazon for about 30 I think. I'd buy 3 of them in different sizes if you can spare the cash and send whichever ones don't fit back. Or if you do find it in store and it's full price (50 or 60 I think), figure out your size and get one on amazon or eBay. Mine was 18 there (but no returns on eBay usually)

Im in the UK, they only had sizes from 36-50 on both amazon and ebay, so I might try on an other occasion.
But I kept them in my bookmarks, as they look pretty good.
Thanks!

helpfulHas the maid of honor dress been purchased yet? I have not been in many weddings at my current size (30G/32FF or G) but even when I was younger and smaller (32E/F) I flat out told the bride, I'm so sorry but if you want me to look presentable strapless is not the way to go. My bust is quite projected and strapless bras just don't lift and shape well. One bride chose a style with straps, the other time I wore a halter gown with a built in bust support which worked well enough for me to make it through the ceremony.

Yes, they have been mesured, fitted, and tailor-made,.. I can't change the plan, it's my sister's wedding.
I'm the opposite shape to you, my bust is not projected (as it goes more towards the sides).
I just tried on a Gossard Superboost Satin plunge bra. The sizing there is not quite right (the 30 band was way too large, cup is about right), but the effect (because it is a push up) is not too bad. The only thing I can really fault is that the bra is not supportive at all once the straps are removed.
If there's no option, I will just keep the 30FF which is smaller so the bra won't come out from the top or the Gossard, and I won't definitely get the support I deserve. But, well, it's only for one day, I should survive it!
I would still like to find a bra with extra side-support, because apart from this occasion, I would love to show a bit of my shoulders sometimes (instead of these ridiculous white straps).

Hmm well I do think you should be able to find something that fits more supportively--have you ventured into Panache's offerings? I know they do 28 bands and are known to fit firmly in the band at least at first--if you don't wear the bra much before the wedding it should be a snug fit.
If you continue to encounter the same problems I suspect you might need to think outside the box... For instance you may want to expand your search to all different kinds of cups (non-molded as well), fitting the larger breast and using a pad or small cutlet to even out the appearance of the other breast. I would also look at longlines, bustiers, etc. Have you tried actual bridal boutiques or the bridal section in large stores? Strapless wedding gowns are almost the norm nowadays, they must have some lingerie/foundation garment solution to offer to brides who have a small back and a fuller bust like you do.
Finally, if all else fails, bear in mind that it IS possible to avoid the bra peeking out from the top of your gown by using various methods to actually attach the gown and bra to one another. I've seen people use double sided tape (not sure that is optimal, lol, but desperate times...) but the more traditional and probably more secure way is to lightly tack them together with stitching (obviously this can only be done if the gown is lined) or even with small hooks and eyes.
Incidentally, possibly this is a stupid question but have you talked to the place/tailor who made your gown? With some designs, incorporating a firmly supportive bra or bustier type element is totally possible.

Oh, for keeping a bra from peeking out of the dress: my tailor sewed 3-4" strips of boning to the neck edge of my wedding dress. (One over each boob, one center front, and two at the back where straps would have been attahed) then you tuck them into the bra and it keeps it locked and loaded. Like bra paperclips! If you find a bra that works but only peeps out a little ask your seamstress to try that

Hi,
Thanks for the tips for the top of the cups.
I will also try the Panache, but I have tried one normal bra from Panache and it was quite uncomfortable so I didn't think about them at all.
I don't need a bridal bra, as I am not the bride, but the maid of honor!
My main problem is the lack of support on the sides, the rest is always manageable with a bit of sewing.
I will have a look in the week!

You don't need to be getting married to buy something in a bridal salon/section! It won't spontaneously combust on anyone who is not wearing an engagement ring ;-) But seriously, they also cater to other members of the wedding party and indeed even people who need special undergarments to go with a formal gown--schoolgirls needing something to wear with their strapless prom gown, ladies wanting something to go with evening attire etc. The reason I suggested it is that due to the tremendous popularity of strapless styles for both wedding gowns and bridesmaids etc., bridal retailers often end up having quite a good selection of undergarments suitable for strapless clothes and have some experience fitting people as well (the latter being less reliable but you know what you are doing, fortunately, so you can use your own judgement).

Unfortunately, I live in a very small town in the south coast in the UK, so apart from going to London, and I know I won't the time for that, it will be a bit difficult.
But, it is indeed a good place to check (I will keep note of this for the next time I need it), I wouldn't have thought about that, thanks!

helpfulHave you looked at Parisa's strapless models? Their Body Veil Full Busted Convertible Strapless and their Body Veil Strapless both look lower cut than that Wonderbra. They go up to an H cup and at least down to a 32 band.
There's also the Wacoal Red Carpet Full Figure Strapless Bra, which goes at least to a 32 and up to an H. Wacoal bras tend to fit me well, but they come almost up to my neck, so that's why I'm looking for others. Maybe their strapless would be worth trying though? If you haven't tried Wacoal, I think they run a couple sizes large in the cup. There's also the Wacoal Halo Lace Convertible Strapless, which looks prettier and seems to be cut lower.
You might also try b.tempt'd by Wacoal b.delight'd Strapless Bra -- they're Wacoal's more youthful, stylish brand, and it's easier to find them in smaller band sizes.
Lunaire may also have some strapless models in your size range, I think.
btw, I did refuse a strapless in my sister's wedding, but good luck to you!

Thanks a lot, I will have a look as soon as I am back from holidays.
You've been lucky with your own sister, she is less difficult than mine!I just have found the Freya Taylor strapless in 30G, which I knew were sizing smaller than usual, they do indeed, as the cup is smaller than with the normal Deco, it tends to be slightly lower than their normal strapless.
Quite a good fit actually.I've ordered a Panache as well, so need to wait a bit more to receive it.
I will come back with the result soon.
Thanks again, so good to have some help!

Oh, thank you so much!
This will definitely help.
I agree, having a petite frame is not usually taken in consideration by the brands when it comes to bigger cups.
Yes, I had to go to Paris France (I live on the south coast in the UK) to try the dress, but I love Paris, so I was pretty happy.
I don't especially need a white bra, as I will be in red, but will look at Ewa Michalak's strapless.
I've never tried the brand, so I had a doubt about which size to buy, as I read so many comments and seemed a bit tricky.
But, if they have less coverage and low center gore, it is probably worth a try.
Of course, in this occasion I don't need excess cleavage, it's a wedding, it has to be decent (well, or any other, I know I have boobs, I don't need the world to stare).
Hope the side support will be better than everything else.
Well, I'll need a bit of time to try, will come back as soon as I find out.
Thanks again!
