Bra fitting help » Wrinkling on the side- what's going on?!
Fauve » Veronique Padded Half Cup (0241) » 30DD 30:5
Issue resolved
The overal construction of the bra is wrong for me: the wires, gore, and strap position are too wide for me, in addition to the too big and loose band worsening the problem.
I decided to exchange it for the Fauve Veronique Balcony Bra (0242) in 30D.
Original problem
I've just received this bra, and I'm, well, dissapointed. There's no gaping or quadboob, but I get massive wrinkling on the side; a problem I've so far also encountered with the Cleo Juna, and Freya Patsy Longline. I tried drawing what's wrong for further reference: http://twitter.com/PetitePlentiful/status/369228363702861824/photo/1
Basically, the black part isn't filled, and I've massive wrinkling next to it.
I captured the problem as best as I could in the photos. Despite the (needed!) shallow cup, there's still a problem. What's exactly going on? Is the cup distorted thanks to the shipping? Should I size up/down? Would the nonpadded Fauve Veronique Balcony Bra (0242) in 30DD be fine?
Many thanks for any help and suggestions!
ETA: added a picture to show the wrinkling in occuring in the cup when not worn: http://media.bratabase.com/cache/41/8b/418bef6d9e45b7fa7c1a1722754cf1f2.jpg

helpfulI was about to say maybe you're just too narrow-rooted for this style, but I see elsewhere that you're wide-rooted. It may be that your being so close-set has some of the same overall effect. I mean, the total horizontal diameter of your bust may be lower than this bra expects it to be.
I do well in a Fauve padded halfcup myself, even though I'm theoretically moderately narrow-rooted, because I'm also extremely wide-set with tissue that falls overwhelmingly outward. Wider wires are fine on me: they fall at the correct place at the side, where I need them, and the excess wire and (flat) room at the gore doesn't signify -- I have no weight falling inward and don't need optimal support there, and the transition to where I do project isn't so abrupt that it creates a wrinkle. Maybe you have the opposite situation.

That totally makes sense. I'm so sorry it's messing up the Veronique for you.
I honestly don't know about sizing in the balcony. The only Fauve balcony I have is the Chloe and it's more sui generis, definitely not in the same family tree as the Veronique although family tree tracing is a bit treacherous in Fauve. I'm more than slightly obsessed with the line but I haven't tried on as many different models as I'd like; they're rare on the hoof here and run hella expensive for blue-sky mail order. FWIW, I have heard that the non-padded-halfcup versions can run a size bigger, but I heard that from another low-ish band FF/G so it may be expected depth variance between styles interacting with the non-negligible projection that's a cost of entry in this range. Sorry not to be of more actual use for all the baroque geekery.

Ah well, I'm used to my smallness/narrowness fucking everything up. Just a shame as this beaut is gorgeous!
I see, it's quite alright, thanks anyway! I think it's best for me to try the 30D in the balcony; I've been reading around and there does seem to be a general consensus on the brand in general running big.

helpfulToo big in the cups? Try hand washing and laying flat to dry on a towel and see if the shape changes. Wearing a bra that is deeper in depth than your breast perimeter might be why it's wrinkling. Too big on the bottom part of the cup? This might be it too the band length when not stretched is bigger than your ribcage measurement. I think it's too big in the band and cups because of the measurements you have. You need a 26D/DD or a 28C/D/DD

I don't think it's too big in the cups; due to the lack of gaping. Or do you think the wrinkling will lessen, quadboob be damned? I'm planning on altering the band (if I'll keep it), it's just a shame that Fauve begins at 30 bands.
I respectfully disagree with the sizing suggestions, I wear around 28E/26F mostly now. A 26D/DD would be way too small.

My impression is also that the wrinkling could be same as gaping, caused by a too big cup. I looked at some other pictures of this bra and it seems you're not the only one with this issue :)
Also, it could be useful to compare the measurements - is the cup of this bra wider or has more depth than your currently best fitting bra? Or if you have it handy, just put the cups side by side - if you see any clear difference in size, or extra fabric on the sides, etc, that could be it. Hope this helps and good luck! :) -
ok ummm sizemapp.com says I'm supposed to wear 28E's and 28F's. It's pretty accurate. sizemapp.com try it and see what it says. If you want to. I'm just trying to help. :D

Thanks JulieCS ! It's just so odd to me as I've always heard gaping on top is the only way to see if it's too big. I'll compare tommorow, and get back to you :)
Jasminepetra I appreciate your help, but I'm assuring you, I'm in the 26F/28DD/28E range. So far all my best fitting bras are 28E's.

helpfulDoes it get any better if you pull the band tighter?

I can't pull it tight very well (curse my short arms!), but it gets a bit better.

It could be because the band being too big is making the cups seem too big? Do you have a rixie clip, that might help. I'm not sure, I just came to look at more pics of the lovely bra :)
-
I think that could be the case; there's no tight band to flatten/shape the cups. I still haven't got a rixie clip (I know, shame on me). Still it's so weird that the cups are smooth and then you move to the side and Bam! Wrinkles. Isn't it goshdarn beautiful? I really love this colour too!

Ugh, yeah I really hate that. I just want moulded/padded cups that will stay put :(
You made me want one, damn it.

Thank you, this makes a lot of sense! My breasts are indeed very close set, and , I don't know how to say it well, narrow on the sides and wide on top, basically a bit like this: https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-jGrVBtLrwk4/UhK8qsV7PsI/AAAAAAAAA58/BCH3MpJ7JOk/s640/blogger-image--4766675.jpg
You seem to have a lot more experience with Fauve; what size would you recommend me to get in the Balcony (if I'm getting it), 30D or 30DD?
