Issue resolved
It was too big. The 28E fits better (even if it's still not 100% perfect)
Original problem
I've just received a Deco strapless. I spent ages deciding what size to order because I'd read so many contradicting things regarding the sizing that I didn't know what to do (especially since I had never tried a Deco before, regular or otherwise). Since the Deco strapless seemed to run slightly smaller than the regular model, I finally went ahead and ordered my regular size of 28F. And I'm left slightly puzzled.
The band is the correct size and the bra fits well on the first hook when I put the straps on (on the hooks positioned the closest to the center). See pictures.
But things start to go downhill went I take off the staps.
If I wear it on the first hook, the cups are all kinds of wrong with a lot of gaping at the top.
If I wear it on the second hook, things get a bit better gaping-wise, but I don't feel as supported as I hoped to be. It's my first strapless so I don't know if I should feel just as supported as with the straps or not.
I think it's clear from the pictures that my breasts are too separate for this bra but the slight gaping on either side of the gore wouldn't bother me if the top of the cups fit better.
Are the cups too big and should I size down to a 28E? Or are the cups simply the wrong shape for me (too tall)?
Looking only at the strapless pictures, they look too big. But with the straps on, I'm on the verge of quadboobing.

helpfulIt looks like your wearing your bra too low. If you hike it up, chances are that it will be too big in the cup. Hike it up and check the fit. Move down a cup size if it's too big.
Also, I'm looking at the measurements and the stretched band is smaller than your ribcage. How did you hook the bra?

Believe me, bands can survive a lot. I wore 28 bands on my underbust which at it's loosest measures 31.5
-
I don't doubt it :) But I'd rather not take the risk while I'm undecided as to whether I'm keeping the bra or not. I'll update the measurements if I keep it.

helpfulimo strapless should looks like any other bra with straps. everything smooth, no wrinkles, quadboobing or something. I've never tried deco strapless, but maybe this is model for fuller on top? For me it doesn't look like too big, not quite really, it looks like your left boob is smaller and with right one bra is good, right?
Try it wearing longer and find out how you feel about that - is band too loose/rides up/ wrinkles on cups. My friend had the same problem as you. Finally she gave up, cause not matter which size, which hook, she didn't feel sure in that bra.

Thank you katee. Yes, I'm wondering if this might not be better for fuller on top breasts.
And yes, my left breast is a bit smaller than my right one. You caught that right. But there's still some gaping going on with the right one as well, just not as much as with the left one.
The band feels secure enough, but my breasts don't feel very supported. The best way I could describe it would be that I feel as if they're presented on platter and not snugly craddled.
I'm tempted to try the 28E anyway but returns don't come cheap because I can only order online and then I have to pay another shipping fee on a new website because the 28E isn't available at the place I bought the 28F. I'd need to be very sure it was the right move. Your friend's experience doesn't reassure me.

I don't have experience like others but I'm hoping my "advices" will help you.
I caught that, I have the same problem and sometimes I feel weird - one cup is ok and another - wrinkles, geez.
The job for bra is be supportive, if you don't feel your bra that way, for me is not going to work out, but is up to you.
I have measurments similar to yours and (for me) I doubt it would fit, but not every breast are alike.
I'm very keen to know (sorry, my curiosity) - how much did you pay for 28f? I tempted to buy myself one. -
No problem, Katee. I paid £33 for it, not including postage which was £5.95. I just found a 28E for £31 with free shipping (hurrah!) so I couldn't resist ordering it. I have 30 days to send the 28F back and the 28E should arrive on saturday or next monday so that leaves me plenty of time.
I just hope I won't have to send both of them back because that'll be £5 x2 for shipping!
But at least I'll know for sure that the regular Decos aren't for me and that I should only stick to the half-cup version. -
I hope 28e will fit you!
edit: i checked, but they don't have 28 bands. -
That was an excellent price.
28 backs are more difficult to find than 30s so it's pretty rare to find a very good deal unfortunately :( And 28Fs are not easily available. From what I've seen, shops don't stock a lot of them so they go out of stock pretty quickly.
I often check Ebay and the Bratabase listings and I sometimes find great bargains in my size but I really need a nude strapless bra (killing two birds with one stone!) fast so I can't afford to browse the web for months. And I've promised myself I wouldn't buy anymore 30 backs to wear with Rixie clips. They're just too loose when it comes down to it.
-
Thanks for letting me know about Rixie clips - I've never heard about that - but I've done my research. haha
I know - I often check it myself (for deco 28f) and because I haven't find any 28F I started looking for 30e instead. Even now I don't have luck. -
Rixie clips are great when you have bras that are already too big in the band and you can't afford to restock in your proper size but I wouldn't recommend deliberately buying a bra that's too big, intending to wear it with the clip.
Bands from Freya run famously loose. If you're a true 28, I think going with a 30 might frustrate you. I have the Ashlee in half-cup in 30E and I can't wear it without the Rixie clip or it's way too loose. I couldn't find a 28F anywhere and I really wanted the bra but I've learned my lesson: I won't do it again.
I wish I had a professional who could shorten bands for me in my town! That would solve some problems :)

Yea, me too! :)
I bought (ok, it was swap) Deco Honey 30E from another bratabase user. Recently I put on weight a little (frustate me much) and I thought that 30 would be just fine. And Miss Mandalay bras with 30" bands (but in F cup) are great, really - I woudn't dare dreaming band like that are made. So I bought it. And now I'm selling it cause no one has/wanna change that for 28f. Never again. But decos are so beautiful.
About Rixie clips - where I can buy that? -
You can find the clips on Ebay. :) They're pretty cheap, too.
I tried a Miss Mandalay in 28 not long ago and the band was indeed quite tight. I could imagine being able to wear a 30.

I have to try one.
Really, when I wear MM bras I feel like they were tailored - like suit or something.

helpfulIt does look too tall, but otherwise the fit doesn't look too off. What does it look like under clothes?

Relatively tight clothes flatten the top of the cups and eliminate the gaping in the way the straps do. It looks pretty good. But I do feel a lack of support from the cups and wouldn't want to wear the bra strapless for a full day.

I'm wearing it as high under my breasts as it can go. I'm full on bottom and don't have enough on top to fill this F cup it seems. I'm guessing that's why it gives the impression of sitting too low.
I confess to not really stretching the band when I measured it so this is not an accurate number. I might send the bra back and didn't want to risk damaging it if I pulled too hard.
