Bra fitting help » One or two sizes up?
Ewa Michalak » Ch Onyks (141) » 55H 26:11
First off, sorry for the bad photos! It was surprisingly awkward to take good photos from good angles
This bra used to fit great, and is definitely the very best bra I have owned, so I'm looking at buying a new one. Only problem is I have not a clue about which size to order. Is the band ok? It does ride up, and I can fit a fist under the band on the very last hook, but at the same time I'm worried a 50 band would bring all kinds of new fit issues and it wouldn't be worth it.
Cup wise, I'm getting a fair amount of quadboob on my right breast, which is a few sizes bigger then the left, as well as some empty space at the bottom of the cup. It was difficult to get the issues to show up in the photos - I also included a photo mimicking where I'd like the straps to be, and that seems to make the quadboob even worse. EM's calculator recommends a 55HH, would this be sufficient or should I go for a 55J?

helpfulI would definitely go up 2 cups.

See, I'm really torn on what cup size to chose. Like you said, Jillsas, EM's gapping is quite obvious under clothes, but at the same time my breasts has grown a fair amount recently, so I'm actually toying with the idea of buying a 55J just to have some room to grow, and maybe buy another set of asymmetry pads to use in the meantime. Any of you got thoughts on that? :)
Thank you!

helpfulI think one size up if you want cleavage, perhaps two if you want more full coverage.
I'm sort of wondering if the S Wiśniówka or S Szykuś might work for you?Updated on November 9, 2013 Flag this

I agree. I'd recommend the S style for you since it has narrower wires. Also, the Ewa Michalak S Szykuś comes with pads, so you could use those to correct the asymmetry from your smaller breast. I think the sizing may run a little differently between the Ch and S styles, though (never had a Ch myself, so I can't remember what others have said.)
As far as the band, go with what feels good. Don't let how far you can stretch it determine your band size -- that's only showing the maximum stretch capacity of the band. Do you REALLY want to wear the band stretched to the max? It's fine if you do, but just remember the band will wear faster and your wires will have more distortion with a super tight band (which could cause other fit issues.)

Thank you for the suggestions, both of you! :) I've actually been drooling over S Wiśniówka for a few weeks and contemplated ordering a sister size to see how the S shape would fit/possibly alter it down, but it might be a better idea to just suck it up and order custom sizes from the start. I wasn't even aware of the S Szykuś and that it had asymmetry pads. It definitely got a place in my shopping basket! :)
BumbleBean - You're right regarding the band, and since a 55 band has worked out decently for me so far, I'm probably gonna stick to that. Worst comes to worst, I can just alter it :)
Once again, thank you both!

Welcome! From the reviews I've seen of the S Wiśniówka,it seemed like it'd be a good fit for your shape.
I would order the S Szykuś myself if it came in a different color.
Hope they all work beautifully! :)

helpfulThe EM calculator seems to be right in this instance. The wires look a bit too wide though. Perhaps EM isn't the best option?

Wide wires is something I struggle with alot (5"2 shorty here, haha), but you are right, they are a bit too wide. I'm going to give both the S and SM bras a try, if not, I'll have to check out Comexim and hope for the best. :) Thank you!

Shortness has nothing to do with narrowness of root just so you know (sorry if I misunderstood what you said about being short). Have you tried going down in volume and up in band size. That really worked for me and my narrow root issues.
-
Oh, I actually think my root is fairly average, what I meant was that due to me having such a small frame, everything is proportionally smaller, and even someone with an average to wide root would experience too wide wires. Kinda like regular and petite clothing. Sorry for not making that clear! :) My go-to-size actually tends to be 28GG in british brands, but the band doesn't offer much support and they tend to need to be altered down. I'm going to keep an eye out for tighter 28-bands though and keep trying though. :)

That sounds like more a cup issue (hear me out). EM has deeper cups, which means your breasts aren't be held as closely to your chest. This means less torque is being used to actually keep your breasts in place. EM bras are not meant to work like British bras. I'd be surprised if anyone found an EM bra to give them the boobs of steel feeling. EM bras seem more designed to give light support anyway. If a slightly larger band and a smaller cup gives you better support, it's likely because you need slightly shallower cups. Since you also appear to require narrower wires than in this bra, this seems to be a case of too small band too big cup. The mechanics of this are best explained by http://drueberunddrunter.blogspot.com/2012/04/english-reversed-letterphobia-and-war.html . If you're interest in Polish bras, I'd look into Comexim. Their wires are narrower and they have less projection. This suggests to me that they can more firmly hold your breasts in place.

Oh gosh, so sorry for the late reply! No idea how I missed your comment!
It's an interesting theory you got, and I've actually read that article in the past and gave it alot of thought at the time, but to be frank, I wouldn't think it applies to me. I may have worded it clumsily (english is not my first language, sorry), a bigger band and smaller cup does not offer more support, but rather the total opposite. Even my 26-bands rides up to a varying degree - for reference, my BTT underbust is roughly 22", couple that with the fact my boobs are quite heavy for their size, and not self-supportive whatsoever, a tighter band is preferable for me, and I have yet to try a British bra that actually fits the way they "should" fit. Common problems for me have always been too wide wires, not enough projection (especially towards the bottom), and a band that rides up, which is why I turned to EM bras, and even though the fit isn't ideal, it's the best fit so far. If you got any suggestions on British brands that you think could work out though, I'd love to hear them! :) Thank you for sharing your insight, it's definitly given some food for thought!
-
If you have a 22 underbust I'd definitely look for 24 and 26 bands then. I'm thinking about the ratio of cups to band. Obviously you need longer bands, because that's what narrow wires mean. Of course this doesn't necessarily mean larger bands, but often, larger bands and smaller cups can fix the cups to band ratio that you might need. Honestly, hearing your fit problems, I think your best bet is to try on a bunch of sizes, smaller sizes, until you find the perfect narrow wires that suit your shape, and then sew your own. Of course, I imagine you don't have the time for that, so that might be no good. Going too large in the cup does cause a loss of support. Looking at this bra, I think it has the correct volume, but the incorrect shape, because the wires are too wide and the cup doesn't go deep enough/open on top enough.

helpfulOMG You have such a tiny ribcage!
Honestly, it really looks like you should go down another band size (if it's possible...and if not you might have to adjust your bras yourself to the tighter band using a sewing machine). If you do go down another band size, that would put you at a 50HH for your present bra size.
It looks like you've got a lot of spillage though--like as much spillage as I had in a 32G before I realized I was actually a J. You should probably try a 50JJ so you can fit that larger breast correctly (or a 55J and take in the band).

2 cups seems like overkill no? I'm pretty sure it would gape, and with EM bras, I find that to be really obvious under clothes.
