Bra fitting help » is the cup or band too small?
Cleo » Meg Balconnet (6751) » 28DD 28:5
This is my first try at getting a bra that fits, and the band feels pretty tight, though I don't know if that's something I can get used to since I've never had a well-fitting band. My biggest problem right now is how much fat is spilling out of the sides of the bra (which is most visible from the picture in the back. I get some spillage in the armpit area as well, but I figure that's probably breast tissue that will eventually join back after I wear a well-fitted bra for longer. I'm thinking of exchanging it for a better size, but I'm not sure what size I should try to go for if I do.

helpfulThe band is riding up because the straps are too tight. Try losening them. They should be snug, so you can fit 2 fingers between the straps and your shoulders.
The band should be parallel to the floor all around. Also, is 27" your tight or your loose underbust measurement?
Unpadded Cleos run very tight. If you measure 27" tightly, you will probably do better in a 30 band in this particular bra.I'd also try a bigger cup size, but I think the band is definitely an issue here.

helpfulI'm not sure, but I think I would try a bigger cup. It concerns me that the band in the back makes that slight U-shape (riding up), when it should be straight across. It might be that because the cups still don't fit quite right, the back isn't behaving quite right.
Based on measurements alone, you do say that you have an 8 inch breast perimeter but that the cups of this are only 7 inches deep. That could be another vote for a bigger cup.

It doesn't actually look like it's riding up but rather that the band is angled up, like many of Cleo's offerings. Additionally, back shape impacts how bands look. Personally, when a band sits naturally with me, it looks really high. If she's uncomfortable with the band, she should go up, because comfort is the most important.
Additionally, having cups as deep as your breasts in a non moulded bra like this one would create what most would consider to be an undesirable shape. Cup depth should usually be slightly less than your breast perimeter in order to provide shaping, support, and uplift.
If I were to guess, I would say 30D would be a better fit.

helpfulThe side view shows that your band is not laying parallel. This leads to me believe that your anatomy may have some play, but the likely culprit is the length the straps are set at. I find the easiest way to adjust straps (if the band allows you to swivel the bra) is to slide the whole bra down and rotate it so the cups are on your back with the straps in front. This always gives me a better birds eye view to more accurately adjust both so they are fairly close to the same. I would say start off by adjusting one-half inch and then properly put the bra back on with the swoop and scoop method.
My other suggestion would be to return and swap for a 30 band with one cup larger. It looks to me like you need more room to keep migrated tissue in its place so it finds its real home for good

helpfulDid you swoop and scoop? Have you tried bras with wider wires?

helpfulIt's always a pretty big shock going down to your true band size. It's pretty normal for a well fitting band to leave red marks, but it's not normal to have any sort of bruising or true tenderness. I would try putting the bra on backwards. If the band still feels too tight then try a 30 band (in a cup up) or wear an extender. If the band feels fine then you just need to go up a cup size. Swooping and scooping will help with the sides. Is it migrated tissue or simply underarm fat? Anyways good luck on the bra journey!

helpfulMaybe if you could just loosen the band with an extender, see if it helps. I think that band size is too small indeed. Cups look just a little small, but if you could exchange this size and try a band size bigger or two, the cups would be a little bit bigger as well.

Maybe a Cleo with cups that are cut a bit more open at the top would be better too? Marcie e.g.
I strongly second the suggestion to try a 30 band in unpadded Cleos.
The biggest issue is this, however: If the wires cut into or lie on your breast tissue at the sides, you definitely have to go for a bigger cupsize. If that does not work, try some of the bras on this list: http://www.bratabase.com/my/lists/7rw/
(Marcie's wires are also a tiny bit wider than Meg's btw.)
