Bra fitting help » How to know if cup is too wide/long

Issue resolved
The cup width is too large for my breast shape so I need to search for bras that have smaller cup widths.
Original problem
I like the look and the overall feel of this bra. However, my boob doesn't go all the way to the part of the cup closest to the wire. Is it supposed to touch the wire? Will this effect the support of my breasts over time?

helpfulIt looks like the wires are too wide for you, however, you don't seem to have that annoying issue where the side of the cup (close to the armpit) interferes with your arms/armpits. I don't know if you've ever experienced that but that fit issue is a bitch! It chafes you in the armpits whenever you reach for something, even when you don't! Often those fit issues (armpit thing + too wide underwires) go hand in hand but not in this case. What I'm trying to say is... Sometimes, fit issues are not deciding factors. Is it comfortable? Do you feel supported? There's different levels of support but I'd say you are plenty supported if you don't long to take your bra off and you generally feel at ease. The most important thing is that no tissue is getting squashed and that you don't feel like your boobs are jiggling inside of the cup

helpfulIf you can't yank the bra all the way up to your root, it's likely shape incompatibility or too tight band and in this case I'm inclined to think shape incompatibility because pulling the bra up would likely make the wires too tall, but the cup fit perfectly.

The delineation of your breast tissue. Pull it up as high as you can without spilling out the bottom. You will get the best support in this position.

helpfulIt definitely looks like the cup is too wide for you. When you take off the bra, the mark left by the underwire should closely follow the outline of your breast. In your side shot it looks like it goes too far off your side. It also looks like the bottom of the cup is a bit empty - you are too projected for this bra. I'll leave it to someone else to make recommendations on another model, because I don't have experience with your size/shape.

Thanks for the info!! I was thinking the Same thing but the lady who fit me said this was the right size... They don't know anything! Haha

Well it might be the right size, but just the wrong shape for you. I think you would pop out the top if you tried to go down a cup in this bra.

Wow, useful info for me as well...I NEVER had an underwire be anywhere close to my breast! I never thought it was possible! Thanks for the info. For the poster, I have heard Freya's bras are narrower, so this is a bit of a surprise! I have also heard Ewa Michalak's bras are narrow, so I'm personally going to try those...

Well since this post I have been doing some more in-depth research and I've been looking at all the bras' cup width and trying to find brands that have a smaller cup width. Apparently I am not very big around but have a lot of projection. I think this bra had a 5.9 cup width (which is in the larger range) so I've been trying to find the ones that are closer to 5.0 (I think that's about as low as they go). I guess once I try on some of those bras I'll let ya know how it goes...

Thanks for the info on the cup width I hadn't figured out the smallest yet. I would love to know if your problem is solved with this.

Idk what the absolute smallest cup width is... But around 5 is the smallest I have been able to find that is within my cup range (E-H). Also, keep in mind I'm new to this site and I am learning as I go. But this is what I'm going to base my next bra purchase on.

helpfulThe other two commenters answered this well, I'd like to add that this is called "orange in a glass", when your boob doesn't go all the way to the bottom of the cup.

That's not right. "Orange in a glass" means the wires are too narrow for your boobs, so you can't really get them into the cups. Often cups look too big because of this, although in fact the wires are too small.
-
I think there must be 2 kinds of orange in a glass, XLHourglass's blog mentions the definition I was using,
http://xlhourglass.blogspot.de/2012/12/figuring-out-ewa-michalak.html
and Venusian*Glow mentions both mine and yours.

I think the second kind is more like "orange in a flat bowl" or "orange on a plate". I don't know what the original Polish definition was, but on our forum the term just refers to the first kind (http://translate.google.im/translate?sl=de&tl=en&js=n&prev=_t&hl=en&ie=UTF-8&u=http%3A%2F%2Fbrawiki.eu%2Fde%2Flexikon%2Forange-im-glas&act=url).
Maybe you can still call it an orange in a glass if you can't yank a bra all the way up to your root BECAUSE ITS WIRES ARE TOO NARROW/small, but that's cleary not XL Hourglass' or Apriltruitt's problem.

Just for learning sake... What is my 'root'?
