Issue resolved
I'll look into larger bands.
Original problem
After the people's thoughts I decided to try the bra with an extender for a while. The underwire doesn't slip down anymore, but the lace is still wrinkling. On the other hand my nipples align with the apex of the bra better than any other I've tried. I know it's not a great fit, but I'd love some follow-up comments on this new fit.

helpfulSounds like the cup is just deeper and narrower than your shape requires. Try a shallower cup shape perhaps? Also this band looks unusually tight on you... are you comfortable in it? If you are a 30 in Freya for example, you might be more comfy in a 32 in Panache which runs tighter.

No actually it was the front view that made me think the band might be snug--it seems to be sort of cutting in the way it usually does on women with much much larger boobs, and the wires look like they were being pulled back a bit. It might just be the mismatch between your breast shape and cup shape doing this though.
I'm not terribly familiar with the whole Panache range but I have seen these lists being shared as a resource for shallow boobs:

They do mention the Harmony. -
agree it looks too tight, the wires are being pulled/angled back.

Oh, ok. Thanks for sharing those lists! I will look into 32 bands from here on then, or maybe just try an extender for a while.

helpfulThe band also looks too skinny like it's digging into your flesh. I think you also need a thicker band.

noted. I think you're right.

If you went up a cup size the side wires wouldn't dig into breast tissue and the there would more room in the bottom of the cups so you would fill themout instead of them being empty.
-
but then wouldn't the cups be too big? I mean, they're already gapping.

I don't seeing any gaping. are you talking about there being space where the straps meet the cups?? That's the only thing I noticed. The cups don't look big on you and the space where the straps meet the cups I read about that and I think it is normal. if the wires on the sides are on your breast tissue and you can't fill up the bottom of the cups, it means that the cups are too small and narrow. I would try a 32FF because this bra (I think) looks good on you. Or even a 30 G with a band extender. :)

helpfulOK, with the extender I think it becomes clear that this cup size (on this particular bra) is at least a bit too large for you... Previously with the too-tight band, the wires were pulled back and this made the cup fit you snugly, but now that they're not pulled back anymore you do have some excess room as you can see from the wrinkles.
The most important issue though is whether you feel comfortable and supported, and if it still looks ok with a top on. If the answer to both questions is yes then I would call that a win. While it may not be the best-ever fit visually speaking, it can still work well for you! I have at least one bra that is a bit deeper and taller in the cup than is optimal for me, but I know sizing down in the cup would be a tight squeeze, and it's still comfortable and looks good under clothes, so I am happily keeping it.
If it feels like there is really a LOT of extra room in the cup, try sizing down.

I assume you're asking about the band because my back looks squashed but it looks like that all the time; I have slight scoliosis. The band is pretty perfect on me, but I get asked that all the time ;)
Do you have a suggestion for another model? I was under the impression that the Melody was a fairly shallow-friendly bra, but since this is the full cup maybe it's not.
