Issue resolved
The gore needs narrowing for me, but the cups are a fit.
Original problem
I've only just been enlightened as to my "true" bra size - prior to this I've been wearing 34C care of some shoddy fitting help along the way :/
Because of that, I'm not quite sure what to look for in practice (as opposed to in theory). This is the best fit I've experienced to date, so I'm wondering if it's good enough?
The band is a bit too tight at the moment but I'm assuming that's just because it isn't broken in. The wires seem good to me, and there's no gaping or quadboobing on the larger breast. The centre gore is definitely too wide, but other than that and the fact there's a significant visible difference between the two breast sizes, I think it sorta fits?
Thoughts?
(I have tried the Lucy in 30F and in some ways it works better as it fits the smaller breast better and it didn't quadboob *too* badly on the larger, so there's less obvious difference; but it left the wires sitting on breast tissue in the centre so it didn't feel great.)
(Oh, and for some reason that probably has to do eight toddler and kitten wrangling, the photos were taken before I realised I hadn't adjusted the straps at all. I think they could stand to be much tighter!)

helpfulThe cups look really good. I would call this a fit!
You should pay attention to your body though in terms of whether the band feels too tight. I'm not a fan of the idea we should have to wear something that is uncomfortable in the expectation it will stretch out and get better, at least not until we have tried a size up! Numbers definitely do not tell the whole story, we are fitting bodies not just crunching numbers My underbust measurements are about 1/2 inch less than yours and I am still most comfortable in a 32 in all brands except Fantasie and Freya. If the 30 is not comfortable, use an extender (available in notions departments, almost all maternity stores in the bra section, and many department store lingerie departments) or try a 32

Yes, it's difficult! I find that comfort is not just about the snugness of the band alone, but about the materials. Many of the British brands use cheap mesh and big thick elastics on their bands so if you are aiming for a snug fit, you can feel like the anchoring power of the band is all coming from these two elastics cutting into you (because the mesh isn't tough enough to have the same compression power). I'm fussy about sensory things like that and I can't deal with that even though I like my bands to be firm. So I usually end up spending 3x the price for a high end brand that uses high quality materials on the band--this usually means I only need a 32 because those bands don't stretch as much!

helpfulI have recently discovered the Lucy bra as well! The gore is too wide on me as well. I have taken it in a bit (sewing by hand) and it has helped drastically! There is an easy tutorial on here or you can google "altering gore on bra." By doing this, I get more forward projection & less east/west projection.
Cups look like they fit!

Thank you, I'll be sure to check out the link, as the gore is driving me crazy.
Have you tried the Marcie? I find it a better fit for me in that it has a narrower gore (but I think I'll get a bit more wrinkling on top, Marcie being made for upper fullness.)

I LOVE the Marcie! Once I altered the gore on the Lucy, it fit a bit more like the Marcie. I think I also like better how the Marcie and more band under the underwires. It just feels more secure!

Thank you! I'm still learning my preferences when it comes to band tightness. My first "fitting" bra was the Curvy Kate Portia in 32E, but the band quickly became so loose I figured I should at least try some 30 bands. (I've since learnt the Portia's band stretches out very quickly and some people size down, so it perhaps isn't the best band to judge fit by ... but all the 30's I've tried before this have been known to run tight or small, so they're not the best to judge fit by either.) I'm hoping the Lucy's band will help me figure it out once I wear it for a full day.
It's such an endless experiment -- and doing it via online ordering is so tedious. I might start genuinely looking at 32 bands simply because I've more chance of finding them in an actual store!
