Issue resolved
Bra fits, I'm just not used to this level of coverage.
Original problem
I'm uncertain how to judge fit on this bra!
I don't quadboob on the larger breast (in fact, if I swoop and scoop and arrange myself, it's a perfect line), and there's not much gaping on the smaller breast; and I'm not aware of the wires sitting on breast tissue (although I'd possibly have to wear it longer to be sure; these are the narrowest wires I've worn). All of which makes me think the cups are an okay fit.
But to get that perfect line on the larger breast, I have to really fiddle with how the breast is sitting in the cup, pushing the centre out and the sides in, if that makes sense. The wires are too short on each side to hold my breasts in place, so I spill into the centre as well as out the side, under my arms, and end up with a sort of armpit boob. Ugh!
Is this just a shape issue? Or should I size up or down in the cups and/or band in hopes of finding longer/better wires?
For reference, my best-fitting bras at the moment would be the Freya Arabella and the Cleo Lucy, both in 30FF.

helpfulI think it looks pretty good. I think that what you think of as "spilling out" under the arms might just be that you aren't used to the wires being shorter under the arm. Do the wires hurt? When they sit on glandular breast tissue under the arm, it can really hurt. If they aren't hurting, well, a bra that is cut low there will not make things as smooth-looking under the arm, but it doesn't mean you are necessarily spilling out. If you look at photos of people in Masquerade and Cleo bras you can see that they are cut lower under the arm and compare your arm area to others.
It does look as though you have very close-set boobs. I do too. If I wear a bra that is cut too low in front, I can spill out the middle. If I wear a bra too high, though, the gore won't tack because there isn't room for it.
It's worth trying the same bra in the same band, one cup size up, to see how that fits and if you like it better.

helpfulThe underwire is too narrow for you! It looks painful! You need a wider cup for sure but larger size may be just deeper, not wider, so it's better to try something else.

I think it might be a bit too narrow, yes - but it's not painful at all. I'm not sure if that's just because the bra is pre-loved and so already broken in and not pressing too firmly, or for some other reason.
I don't think I would size up a cup in this band size, as EM bras seem to only add depth in increasing sizes - but I might try a 70F if I get the chance, as her sub-FF wires seem wider. Finding a bra manufacturer who makes half cups that don't widen and flatten and at the same time have narrow enough gores for me is proving challenging!

Have you done the old "take off the bra and see where the underwire mark is" test? I know they say to press down and if you feel some give under the underwire then it is on breast tissue, but this isn't true for everyone. I don't carry a lot of weight on my torso but I still have some soft pudge on my sides right under my arms and when a bra is on me, it's really difficult sometimes to discern whether it's sitting on breast tissue or not. But if I take off the bra and gently compress the breast, causing it to crease at the side and show the edge of the breast tissue, I can see how close the underwire mark is.
I suspect this wire is at, or just outside the edge of your breast tissue, but this test will help you see for sure.
I think the bra fits as the designer intended--it's a sexy low cut design, meant to give good uplift but not necessarily iron support and definitely not a ton of coverage.

wendybien I'm giving the bra an extended wearing right now, as part of that very test. I definitely have pudge all over my ribs, so determining where the breast tissue truly ends is tricky for me.
I've been wearing it for a couple of hours now and I'm finding there's no extra spilling out the sides, so although I think the wire is a little short on the side for my taste, it is at least holding me in, which makes me think the cup volume is right. There is a bit of slip into the middle of the bra due to the low gore height, but other than that everything's still in place. I might try a 70F if I get the chance -- same cup volume, but maybe fractionally higher wires that will help contain my soft tissue?
-
wouldn't the 70F have the same wire dimensions? I'm not sure how they grade their cups at EW. Perhaps the measurements are on here somewhere.
-
AFAIK the cups of 65FF and of 75E are identical in volume while the cup of the 70E and the 70F are off in volume by about half a cupsize compared to the 65FF. Something to keep in mind.

There doesn't seem to be many 70F measurements for EM bras on here, unfortunately for guesstimates - but the measurements do seem to imply that while the width doesn't change, the gore height and wing height do.
@t_maia thanks for the tip - is that just with the milady, or the chp cut? Or is it a quirk of EM bras in general? After wearing this bra all day and found it incredibly comfortable, I've decided it basically fits, but I think a brand new 65 band would be too tight for me - but it's not worth ordering a 70 if it means losing fit in the cup!

Quirk of EM bras in general across all cuts.

The wires don't hurt, but I'm not sure if that's just because this is a pre-loved bra so the band is just stretched out and not pressing in on me. The wires do seem to be sitting on breast tissue at the side (I'm wearing it now as a test, to see what happens after a couple of hours). My main concern is that this amount of underarm spill is what I was getting in a 32E, which I know now is definitely too small a cup volume for me. But judging whether the spillage is from too small a cup or just too short a wing height is not something I've mastered yet!
I do have extremely close-set breasts, and gores that are too high will always float on me even when I get the right cup size. That's partly why I'm looking at EM bras.
