Issue resolved
It fits...the problem is I have tails.
Original problem
For the most part I think this bra fits fairly well. The band is a little small...I should have gotten a 30 not a 28, probably. The cups seem to enclose my breast tissue, and they feel supportive. They do not gape more than any other plunge bra I've tried. The problem I've having is that everytime I've worn this bra with a sleeveless V-neck shirt, I have obnoxious underarm rolls. I like the way this fits (for certain styles, not every day...) and I'd like to have bras this shape that fit properly. Something seems wrong about this one, but I cannot pinpoint what it is.

helpfulCups are too narrow. In 30s the wires are usually wider so 30D or DD may fit better.

helpfulI'm on a terrible internet connection at the moment, so I can't get the photos to load beyond thumbnails, but I get a similar underarm look as the fourth picture, and I've always just kind of assumed that's the tail of spence, no? (If it's not, then I'd love to know a fix, too!)

To be honest, I'm not entirely clear on the specifics of the tail of spence either, but there's definitely a thing called axillary breast tissue (which may or may not be the same as the tos?) (see http://knickernomad.wordpress.com/2014/03/24/whats-that-fat-in-my-armpit-axillary-breast-tissue/), and it's basically just that flap of tissuey skin, I guess firmer or softer depending on the individual. The other bras you have linked to do seem to hide it due to the strap placement, so perhaps it's always been there and you're just less aware of it.
I wonder if the reason it's pushed up and rolled forward more in the Deco is just a function of band tightness and wire narrowness?

helpfulIf the band feels too tight maybe you could size up. I don't like it when this armpit issue happens to me. I notice it more when the wires are a tad too short on the sides. I can't wear bands that feel too tight either. Maybe a more comfortable band would help because then you would have more and not feel like you are squished or squeezed too much?
It looks like it fits really good.
And what you mentioned. I understand that issue because that also irritates me. It like a comfort issue for me because it feels like migrated breast tissue from wearing sportsbras that were too small for too long. Good luck.Updated on April 23, 2014 Flag this

helpfulCan you clarify what you mean by underarm roll? Do you mean that the outer cup edge curves inwards towards your body and makes a little indent in your underarm flesh?

My photos are pretty terrible aren't they...The Bratabase logo is right in the way of the area that bugs me! If you make the last picture larger you can see a little better what I mean...At the outer top corners of the cups there are "rolls" that protrude outside the cups. I'm going to try to add a closer, less blurry photo. It's not that the cups are digging into flesh causing the roll, as can be seen by the angle shot...so I'm trying to determine what feature of the bra is causing the rolls.

I see it, but Im not sure. It happens to me frequently as well. :(

Oh that! I think that happens on some people when your bra lifts the breast tissue upwards and outwards enough that the flesh under the arm is under a little bit of pressure and gets a bit of an indent. I don't think there is much you can do about that, its appearance is largely a function of stuff like the position and volume of your tail of Spence, frame width, volume of muscle on your chest and upper arms, etc. I am a big proponent of learning to love the way you look :-) it's not a sign of bad bra fit at all.

That makes SO much sense. This bra really LIFTS. I agree that it's best to love ourselves just the way we are, and I thank you for reminding me. You made me have a big smile!
Unfortunatly this "fold" does get irritated and red if I wear the bra for many hours. I'm wondering if going up a cup size, and maybe a band size would help stop the skin from buldging into the outside of the cup...
I keep reading how Deco is a disaster on shallow wide breasts so maybe it's best I just enjoy this bra occasionally and don't set my sights on getting more in this style. *sigh*
Why is it always the bras with the most colorways to choose from and the most purchasing availability (yes, Tango, I mean you!) that never fit just right? Grrrrr.
-
Well, yes, when you size up, you tend to lose a little bit of uplift while gaining coverage. So the folds will likely either disappear (except on the women on whom they are always present) or else be covered by the bra. However, I wouldn't advise sacrificing an already good fit just for this.
Re: the redness and irritation on the skin around the fold, this could be from friction or it could be a rash or yeast infection (yes you can get them anywhere on your skin!) If it's friction, try the stuff people use elsewhere on their bodies to avoid chafing... powder, body lube, etc.

Wow - I always thought the Tail of Spence was tissue along the armpit ligament...It's actually external? I guess I have no idea what it is...!
Thank you! :-)
In my case I'm talking about an actual blob of skin that is being pressed upon, so it folds, much the same way as "migration" when I wore bras that were way the wrong size.
I guess it's maybe "hidden" under my other bras?
i.e.

I can see the "flap" of skin under my arms always, but with the Deco it seems to be pushed upward and "rolling" forward more than in other bras.
I wonder if going up a cup size would help?
