Issue resolved
Trying a narrower cup with more forward projection.
Original problem
This is my best fitting bra after some quick alterations. I took in the cups by .5", and shortened the straps. This size is the small end of the sizes bra calculators give me which can go up to a 28J. My question is this: what size do I really need? My underbust is 28.5 comfortably, 27 on exhale, My full bust is 38. I prefer firm bands, 30s tend to ride up a bit at the center back. I do not fill a UK 30G cup, and a UK 30FF is too small. So size wise, where do I go from here?

helpfulThis bra is a poor choice to size yourself with because it has very wide, and therefore likely shallow cups, whereas you are projected and narrow. This means there is a lot of unused space in the cup (on the sides where you won't need it) while it lacks space where you need it (at the front).
I'm the same shape and there is no point trying to pour a square boob into a round cup if you see what I mean--NO size will fit! You need to use a bra that is at least close to your natural anatomical shape. To size yourself, do a search for 28s and firm 30 bands on here with a cup width of no more than 5.5", and depth around 10", find a couple of widely accessible models (not something Polish where you have to custom order) and then try a range of cup sizes.

I laughed out loud at your description of the sextuple boob. I get the same thing with the C Chic! I don't know what they were thinking with that tight seam that will cut right across the upper areola on most women.
-
They were thinking "breasts should be...corrugated!",yet strangely it only happened to me in the beige bras, the teal and red were fine till I outgrew them.
-
I'm sure different color dyes act differently on the thread/cup fabric, so these things might happen on some colorways and not others--or maybe the beige one was from a season where their manufacturing processes were a bit different. Still, it should be patently obvious that this is the risk you're taking when you put a seam there, so why would you design the bra that way? Corrugated boobs indeed! If I wanted that I'd be sporting a spiral stitched bullet bra every day...

To follow up on this suggestion, you might want to give Cleo bras a try. Since you are more full on bottom, maybe try Cleo Lucy? Because Cleo Lily has slightly narrower wires than Lucy, that might be worth trying too. In my experience, Cleo bands tend to run tight. So, maybe try ordering 30 bands in Cleo.

helpfulThe bra you are wearing looks a little tight in the cups.
Since all bras are different, I suggest you go get a proper fitting, or perhaps order the same bra in a few different sizes to see what works best.
Have you tried to swoop and scoop? Somatimes that's what's needed to fill out a slightly large cupUpdated on July 23, 2014 Flag this

helpfulI doubt you'd need a 28J UK in any style. Based on the fit of this bra, I think you'd do well in 30FFs with projection and 30G in shallower bras since you took in the cup of this one, and in loose 28 bands in brands like this one that run loose (28G and 28GG respectively). It looks like you might have both shallow breasts and soft breast tissue. Like Staaldrigstill says, if you aren't already, scoop! Based on your shape descriptors, I think you could do well in Bravissimo's unpadded bras, especially ones that are of the Alana style.

Thanks ladies! I do swoop and scoop, and I totally have soft breast tissue (three kids will do that to you!). I wish there was a local place I could get fitted, I've tried the few places I know that carry larger cup sizes locally and they always put me in a 34C. I think I do need more projection because I fill these cups but I'm also kinda squashed in there. I will have to track down an Alana to try.

You'll be able to find it on Bravissimo's site and possibly in the listings here, otherwise, they don't do it elsewhere.
Here's the only colorway I could find on sale: http://www.bravissimo.com/products/sale/lingerie/sensational-sets/alana-bra/lime/au01le/?show=all&category=lingerie&back=28&cup=g%2cgg&sale=
Here's a bra that works well on similar shapes, be warned it can give a pointy look, but it's pointy in a good way not in a bad (uplifted rather than droopy or upside down 7): http://www.bravissimo.com/products/sale/lingerie/sensational-sets/dotty-spot-bra/red-ivory/au08ri/?show=all&category=lingerie&back=28&cup=g%2cgg&sale=
Here's the Alana at full price: http://www.bravissimo.com/products/lingerie/sensational-sets/alana-bra/orangeade/au01oa/?show=all&back=28&cup=g%2Cgg
Here's some additional bras that are the same cut:

Thanks Jillsas, I will check those out!

She measures over 28 comfortably. I don't think 28 bands will generally be comfy for her, and i also think they will pull her cups shallower and put her straps unnecessarily in her armpits.

Thanks for pointing that out, I misread it as 27.5. Will edit my post.

I picked my best fitting bra since it seemed like a good place to start, but you are definitely right wendybien. I probably should have used my Chantelle C-Chic, but the fit on that one is a total mess!
I will try the size based search, thanks for the tip!
