Now a 30D. Fits great!
Original problem
I am new to proper sizing, I have all old bras, mostly 32As but most often wear little girls training bras which don't even fit properly.I am very ill and usually in bed but I decided I need to wear proper bras.I am pretty confident the 30 bandis correct but I am confused on what to try, since I am popping out of this A and although I love this bra (brand new) I am curious if it is the wrong style and whether this seems like more than one cup size off. I am very fairly thin all over (tall) but as you can see in the pics I have a distended stomach from my illness. While bulging from these cups it also feels a bit empty, like I could pinch a little in the cup where there is extra space? Yet it seems like there is breast tissue on the sides and top that aren't contained. I couldn't get a picture but the band is level in the back.

helpfulThe cups are too small, for sure: definitely try at least 1 (more likely 2-3?) cup sizes up. A 32A is the same volume as a 30B (when you go down a band size, go up one cup size to keep the same volume). When a cup is too small, you get orange in a glass, where the breast simply can't squeeze into the cup and so ends up outside the bra and the cup itself appears to have empty space.
Have you tried getting a starting point size from reddit's ABraThatFits size calculator?
If you were wearing 32A, chances are you're shallow, so in that case a shallow-friendly shape would be super-important. Look for bras that are open on the top edge (accommodates a tall root and/or upper fullness), and bras with vertical seams rather than horizontal ones.
I'm afraid I have absolutely no knowledge of good (or any, for that matter) wireless bras, so can't make specific recommendations for models to try. Although I would say to check out undiegamer's blog (http://undiegamer.com/), as she reviews quite a few wireless bras. Off the top of my head, she's a fan of the Mira Fortnight longlines, and has just reviewed the Gossard Super Smooth Moulded Wireless Plunge. (Gossard, I think, is known for being a shallow-friendly bra maker, so might work for you?)

Trying the same brand/model in different cup sizes is *absolutely* helpful -- once you have your size in a given brand and model, you can use the numbers from Bratabase to get an idea of what your size might be in any other brand/model combination.
A 32AA indicates only a half-inch difference between your overbust and unerbust, which doesn't seem right from looking at your pictures, so even though you felt the 32As were too big in the cup, that might also have been orange in a glass: no overspill (most probably because of the band being too loose) but still not actually capturing all of your breast tissue.
I notice that you've described your shape as pointy, which might indicate conical breasts. Calculators can often overestimate your cup size when you have conical breasts, so if a calculator is giving you 30DD, then try a 30C/D/DD. We usually advocate fitting to the larger breast and then either tightening the straps or padding the smaller breast, so DD is still within the realms of possibility. (However, that advice is usually for wired bras, because if the wires are too small the breast will make the band shift around uncomfortably. I imagine unwired bras might be more accommodating in that regard?)

that makes tons of sense, thank you for explaining! I do plan to get some sexy underwire bras eventually too :) Yes, that was bothering me about the AA sizing advice I was getting! I'm still learning how to describe my breast shape, part of finally getting around to "real bras" was because of drooping which was a huge wake up call - "I'm tiny! What is happening!" Shallow is probably most accurate - they aren't exactly conical but a little bit pointy. Not as round as I wish they were. I hope that makes sense? Good to know the calculators could be a bit off in regards to that though, makes sense that way. I should upload pics of this bra not worn, it has a spot for the wire just no wire there, so you can see if you breast tissue is not encapsulated where it should be. That has been helpful as opposed to the typical bralette that really doesn't have cups at all so it's much harder to assess fit, in my experience.

helpfulYou're right! It seems like we do have a pretty similar shape/size! That bra is definitely too small though.. I would start with a 30C and in the same style and see how it fits though. If hope you can find something that works! It looks like a good cut/style for you though. I also have the same issues with bra size calculators. I usually get a 30D/DD as my result, but I've also gotten 34AAA :/ (cough Ewa Michalak calculator).

Yep I've gotten 34AAA too! What size were you wearing before starting your bra journey? I am anxious to try 30C! Have you ever tried the little bra company? I can't even wrap my mind around possibly being a 30D/DD yet -and having to shop in full bust lines?! Have you tried any 28 bands, as we both measure 29in? Are you in the US? Sorry for all the questions! Nice to not feel alone in this, you know?

Hey don't be sorry! I'm just as happy to not feel alone in this too lol! I've tried the little bra company in the past. A few years ago I bought the Yvonne bra in a 30b and it was (and is to this date) the best fitting bra I've ever had! That being said it was the first 30 band I had ever worn... And I don't have the bra anymore to try it on and fit it to my current standards so... I recently ordered a bunch of bras from the little bra company in sizes 30c and 32b. I will let you know how it goes :). It definitely is confusing though... Even if they don't fit I'll post pictures and reviews. There isn't a lot on bratabase about the little bra company. I remember after I got the Yvonne bra I ordered the Lucia and Isis or Mercedes in the same sizes and they were both way way too small (and then I ran out of disposable income to spend on shipping and gave up).
I live on the west coast of Canada on Vancouver island, so we don't have a lot of selection when it comes to shopping! Are you from the states? The only 28 bands I have ever tried were also from the little bra company in both the models that were too small (I ordered 30bs and 28cs in the Lucia and the Isis and everything was too small). I've heard that tlbc runs small in band and cup though, so I don't know if I've tried a "true" 28 band. Have you?

I think I was wearing 32bs before.. But I can't be certain. I got fed up with bras for a while and gave them up completely. I think it was 34as and 32bs that I could find.. But of course I'd always get the band riding up and the gaping cups after wearing them for more than 10 minutes. You?

I am in the US, currently in Northern Michigan so no good shopping here either. This is my first band smaller than a 32. I was wearing 32As and a few 32Bs but I had given up on bras altogether too so its hard to compare. Iam definitely curious how tlbc works for you this time around! I hope to try them eventually but until I have a much better idea of my size I can't afford to. I have to get some other bras on here too, I have a chantelle 32B that was a TJ Maxx (like Winner's in Canada I think?) Score from a few years ago, it doesn't fit me properly anymore at all but that was (and currently still is, even though its a bad fit now) my best fitting bra.

I don't mind not wearing a bra most of the time (honestly, I prefer it) but there are some times when it just isn't appropriate lol! Plus it's just nice to feel pretty and feminine once in a while :).
I'm still waiting on those tlbc bras. Should be here any day, and I will post reviews and let you know if you're interested!Have you found any 30c bras you might be interested in trying?
I think tlbcs shipping and return rates are reasonable if you live in the states, but that's coming from me in Canada as I always have to pay international shipping prices lol. The bras themselves are a bit pricy, but if you're petite the "cut" of the bras makes such a difference! -
I just uploaded fit requests for this bra in a 30C and a betsey johnson demi in a 30C. I am definitely interested in how your new tlbcs fit, please let me know! I am on a fixed income so I have to be really careful with shipping/return fees.

helpful"Orange in a glass" is actually specifically where wires are too narrow (the cup itself may be too large or too small in volume) and your breast can't get into the cup, hence the unfilled bit at or above the nipple, then quadding around the edges. A too small cup is simply a too small cup. You need wider and shallower, perhaps half cups with wide wires. www.reddit.com/r/ABraThatFits has a large section on shallow shapes and bras in its side bar. You will need to go up a size, it may already have been said, but a 32A is one cup larger than a 30A.

Thank you! The 32A has been too big in the cup, I have tried to hold it up just to check the cup size because the elastic in the band is shot, so I wasn't sure. I have been told 32AA-30DD by fitters/calculators and despite my own research telling me otherwise I decided to try a 30A first. Thank you so much for your suggestions, going to look into them all now. I ordered this bra in a 30B and 30C so I will get to try the same brand/style which I hope will be helpful too.
