Bra fitting help » Is this a size issue or the wrong style?

Issue resolved
I will be trying out some 30Ds and see how these fit. The 30 band size is definitely most comfortable for me, and now it's just an issue of finding a well fitting cup! Thank you for your help. I don't think this particular bra is the right style for me either, so I'll be trying something that is maybe a little more open in the top.
Original problem
I have been buying 30C bras for a while now, but recently I've become uncertain of the fit. My other 30Cs don't fit when I "Swoop and scoop" (I get quadboob pretty bad), and this particular bra gives me quadboob before scooping, and it gets even worse after scooping. I'm wondering: Does this look like a size issue (as in I should go up a size) or is it the style/cut that isn't working for me? What perplexed me was that cup volume and cut of this bra is very similar to the cut/volume of another bra in a 32B that I have that fits me pretty well. Help! I'm so confused.

helpfulThis looks significantly too small. Try a 30D!
Also, can you double check the stretch of the band? 33" fully extended seems like a crazy amount of stretchiness.
It's normal that a 32B might appear to fit you better in the cups--the band would be looser on that bra, and the fact that the cups didn't fully encompass all breast tissue would be less noticeable. If you look closely at your 32B though, I'm willing to bet the wires aren't quite making it all the way around the breast crease .

helpfulIt could be a bad style for you but is definitely too small! I'd say the next bras you try should be in 30D and 30DD.

I'm all over it! Put an order in for some bras that will hopefully fit a bit better, but I have a sneaky feeling I'm between a 30C and 30D.

You won't know until you try... Got to love online shopping.
I'm wearing mostly 30C/28D these days and my boob perimeter measurements are smaller than yours. But it seems to me that sizing and cup shape is so all over the place particularly in our size range. Good luck!

Oh online shopping. The anticipation always kills me! Oh well :) Thank you for your help!

helpfulI should note that the centre gore of bras never lie flat against my sternum as I have something called pectus excavatum which causes an indentation in my chest, so this isn't necessarily indicative of a bad fit for me. Thanks!

I have the same thing. It really makes fitting harder because a bra that fits with PE doesn't look the same as without it. I agree with wendybien that this one looks too small. That's based on what looks like quadboob both at the top and at the gore and possibly wires sitting on tissue at the outsides too.
In my experience there's a great risk of choosing a cup that is too small due to PE. Gently pressing the wires towards the sternum will help with that. Otherwise it can get uncomfortable with wires sitting on tissue at the gore and a loss of support.

Thank you! Yes PE does make it more difficult for sure. I've been doing a lot of research into bra fitting, but as you probably know it's hard to conceptualize a well fitting bra when your body isn't "normal"! That's why I'm so thankful bratabase has this fitting help section. I'll try a size up and see if that helps. I'll also try pushing in the gore next time I'm trying on bras. I had never thought of that, but it does make sense!

NP. Btw, I have the draft to a fit guide for PE on my profile. I'd love your feedback if you have the time to look at it.

wow, you seem similar to me which I find comforting as I am just beginning my serious proper bra journey. It's been so confusing as I have been told 32AA to 30DD by fit calculators/stores - I ordered a 30A (posted on here) and it is way too small in the cups, think I am a 30C. I have been wearing training bras so it sounds so huge to me - thank you for your post, it is helping me wrap my mind about this.

I read your write up about about bra fitting with PE, and it's pretty bang on.
I tried bending the wires of my current bras inward to meet my chest wall, and the cups are certainly too small when I do this. How frustrating! From your profile it looks like you're a much larger cup size than I am, so it would make sense that plunge styles don't work for you or give much support. As a small busted person with PE I really like the plunge styles. I find them much more comfortable, but I'm not sure why. Bras with a tall gore tend to poke and always feel too wide, but I can't say if that's because of the PE or if it's my breast shape/personal preference/size issue. Full coverage bras tend to be pretty empty at the top for me, but I'm fairly certain that's a breast shape thing.Out of curiousity I tried to google something along the lines of "bra fitting pectus excavatum", and was surprised that nothing really turned up. It's really cool that you're doing this :) Thank you. I've had such a hard time finding well fitting bras (as most women do), and the PE just exacerbates everything!
(I tried to find a message function on this website, but could not find it, so this will have to work!)

Thanks for your input! The draft is due for an update and this will be useful. There's really a great lack of info on PE which is unfortunate especially since PE masks some of the volume and makes it even more likely to wear a too small cup. Your comments sparked some ideas that I will have to get back to when I'm at a computer. It will be interesting to see where you end up size and style wise.
There's an envelope on the profiles to send PMs but perhaps you need to get a higher "reputation" before you can see it. It goes up pretty quickly.

Thank you for taking the time to put all this information in one place :) generally when I Google anything related to PE and breasts all I get is information about breast augmentation surgery to "mask" the condition.
Hopefully when I figure out which size and styles work for me I'll be able to give a better informed opinion about PE and bra fitting :)

I think you're right. When I get my partner to pull the 32B tight enough that it feels comfortable (like a 30 band would fit) I do get more spillage over the tops. Oh well! They're pretty so I'm going to keep them, but I'm going to be hunting for some better fitting bras. I went to a lingerie store today (the only place in town that sells 30 band sizes), and they only had a few styles to choose from. A freya 30D with non molded cups and another brand I wasn't familiar with. Both seemed a bit too large in the cups. I'll keep hunting though! This is certainly tricky business.. and expensive if you don't fit into the usual sizes. I've ordered a bunch of bras in the same styles with varying cup sizes, so hopefully that will help me figure out where to go from here!
Thank you for your help :) I appreciate it.
