Bra fitting help » Back band seems too tight or too high
Fauve » Bronte Padded Longline Bra (0331) » 32F 32:7
Issue resolved
I love it anyway, so I might get a shapewear cami with a high back for when I need it, but otherwise I am just going to wear it.
Original problem
I love love love my Bronte, and it is super comfortable and I would actually argue that it does fit, although I can pull the band away from my back quite a bit, but it stays in place because of the style and the boning. It's super supportive even with the apparently too-large band.
Since the band is too big, though, it makes me wonder about this little issue with the back and how it looks way too tight. It does sit higher at the top than any of my other bras, but I don't notice when I'm wearing it. Is this is reason I muffin-top? Is there something I can try to maybe make it better? It does show under my shirts, which is why I would like to fix it, but I think it might just be my shoulder muscles. :/

helpfulHonestly, longlines don't fit the same way as 2-3 hook bras. All that extra width in the band gives it significantly more resistance to tension and means that, although you may be able to stretch it pretty far with your hands, it won't have nearly as much stretch on your body. So, this band is not in ANY way too big for you. I wouldn't say that it is too snug either. The reason you are getting a bit of an indent is, imo, due simply to how high the top of the band goes on you. The photos show you have a shortish armpit-to-natural-waist line and a distinctly nipped-in waist so there is just no way for the band to sit any lower on your body, there is nowhere for it to go and it cannot go past the curve of your waist.
I would say this slight muffin-ing is a small price to pay for a stunning bra that fits you beautifully and is very comfortable to boot. Enjoy it and don't worry about this very minor issue!

helpfulWould the band also stay in place if it was a little larger? In my opinion it's not a question of how far you can pull the band away from your back but a question of comfort. It is most important the band doesn't ride up but it should still be comfortable. It doesn't have to be any tighter, this would cause a faster machine fatigue. Does the band still stays in place if you use an extender? If yes you can also wear it this way. If not I guess there is no option to avoid the muffins I guess. Since the band goes higher than normals bands do it causes skin folding where usual bras don't.

I haven't tried yet because I don't have a 5-hook extender - I'll have to make one. I am curious about it, but also suspect it might change the way the cups fit, and they are perfect right now. :/
I will also try cross-hooking it to see if some of the tension is relieved that way. Maybe I just need to take in the lower edge!

Do the wires extend a lot while wearing? The cups might get a little bigger when you wear a larger band but the general fit shouldn't change.
-
Not sure. I don't think so, and they don't feel especially strained or taut. In my hands they are not as flexible when compared to, say, my Natori bras or my Curvy Kate Tease Me.
-
If the wires don't extend a lot there shouldn't be a lot oft space in the cups getting free, I guess.
-
Perhaps it will be fine! We'll have to see. I can make the extender tonight after work, and it shouldn't take too long. Updates to follow!
-
I tried an extender and it made the cups wrinkly, which is not what I expected. The wires tried to shift down, too, so I guess it was fine before! Who knew?

helpfulMy intuition would be that not all of your breast tissue can fit in the cups, hence the back fat/tightness feeling even though it's looser on you.

It doesn't actually feel tight, though, and as far as I can tell all the breast tissue is in the cups. This is the most comfortable and best-fitting bra I own.

It really does make my boobs look good. There is nothing quite like the Bronte!
