Issue resolved
I really liked the color and it felt well-made and comfortable, but I was worried about the combination of non-tacking gore and grabby toddler hands, so I returned it. I'll try other suits from ASOS and around in 30F
Original problem
This is one of the first fitted (band+cup size) swimsuits I have purchased. I want to make sure I got the exact right size. It is a 30E. It feels great in the band, and looks great in the cups from the front. But it doesn't sit flat against my sternum when looking from the top. If I press the gore into my sternum, a very small amount of quad boob appears, but of course it doesn't stay that way. I really am worried about returning this, attempting to track down a 30F online and then finding it gaps too much to wear to public beaches/pools. It feels secure and looks pretty good, but fails the sternum flat test. Think I should try again, or settle?

helpfulI think it probably depends what you plan to do in it! If the extent of your beach/poolside and in-water activity is limited to walking around, lying in the sun, wading in to cool off, bobbing around, and a moderate amount of leisurely swimming this is probably fine. If you are hoping to be more active, e.g. doing laps or more athletic swimming, playing with children, or stuff like beach volleyball etc. then you will probably be more comfortable with something that contains you more.

Uh-oh! I would never dream of going to the beach with my toddler in something that didn't fit like cast iron. You don't need to do a 1 piece, you just have to find a bikini that fits more securely and contains the breast tissue. A tacking gore is probably going to be your best friend in this case.

Or even the sport bikini top (they do exist in your size).
I normally wouldn't worry about the top of a gore not tacking completely, but if that's the case with your toddler, I would maybe find something that contains your breasts really securely. That being said, I don't think this will work in a size up, I imagine there will be gaping and wrinkling on the top (seeing as it fits well otherwise).
What sort of style are you looking for? You have a ton of really cute options out there.

I guess I better return this then. I am looking for a very secure 2 piece swimsuit that will minimize weird tan lines (the less covered area, the better). One that doesn't cost an arm and a leg and my toddler can't tear off me. I know, lots of requirements. I've been mostly shopping the sale pages on FigLeaves.com for my size (30E/30F or sistersizing to 28 band). Know any other places I can find something cute for a good deal that won't give me a headache about returns if it doesn't fit?

Barenecessities is pretty good as far as I know. Also Asos is pretty good with that as well. I would also really like to recommend Freya, because while often, their cuts and builds don't fit a wide variety of people, they really step up their game for swimwear.

helpfulI second Bare Necessities as a good option when you are worried about returns. You do have to pay to ship back, but if you want to exchange it just give them a call and they'll ship you whatever for free very fast shipping. You can even call them to get advice from a fitting expert about what you've bought! When I sent bras back I got a refund quickly.

helpfulWow, that swim top looks great on you! I was going to suggest keeping it, unlike the others here. On the other hand, I have no idea how perilous it is to play with a toddler while wearing a non-tacking swim top. Any chance you can keep this for less dangerous, non-baby time around the pool? Or am I being hopelessly naive about the chances of a toddler's mom having such opportunities?

My toddler gets rather grabby, so I need something he won't flash me in. But I like bikinis :)
