Issue resolved
I need to research the cup depth and wire width before buying a bra. It appears that though I was originally sized at a 34 F those bras do not have the required depth for my breasts. I need to look for cup depths around 11 inches maybe even 12 inches to fit my bust properly and wire widths greater than 6 inch. I will also try a size down in the band for more support. Thanks to the suggestions I know that panache, parfait and Freya long lines would be a good place to start because they have wider wires. Thanks for the help ladies!
Original problem
This was the first bra I have bought in my true size and it is a horror! Unfortunately there aren't any boutiques within 3 hours where I live and I am stuck buying online (story of our lives!). I have bought a couple more bras after this one and I am no closer to finding a proper fitting bra then when I started. I feel like I have fallen down the rabbit hole. Please help me, I just need a little support!
This bra is a 34F UK and it is too small in the cup. I am not sure if this is because the bra it self runs small or if I am in the wrong size altogether... The bra is very uncomfortable and the majority of the weight of my breasts are held up by the straps. Even if I wear the bra for just a couple of minutes I get red indention marks on my ribcage under my breasts -which has me a bit scared to downsize the band- and my shoulders. This bra also gives me a headache if I wear it for too long! The wires are not wide enough or tall enough and I have escaped breast tissue under my arms. I thought Curvy Kate was supposed to have wider wires! My breasts have a wide root and are moderately more full on the bottom. In the bust I measure 41 inch standing and 43 inch bending. Which measurement do I use to size? Should I stick with Curvy Kate? Know of any other brands and styles that cater to wideeeee roots and are t-shirt friendly? Should I keep my current size? Thanks for helping me with my "bra-blems".

helpfulSo that bra is clearly too small! Is the band fastened on its loosest or tightest hooks? because a good-fitting bra should be on its loosest hooks when its new, so that as it gets old and stretches out, you can tighten it.
For me, I look at the breast perimeter - oddly, for me, my laying perimeter is smaller than vertical, but your vertical is smaller? But I look at the band size compared to my chest, and the cup depth compared to my breast perimeter.
So, this bra shows a cup depth of 9.5 inches, and your smallest breast perimeter is 10.5 - which says this cup is at least an inch too small for you. Before I buy any bras, I come look at the numbers, esp the cup depth.
You can also look at cup width - 5 inches is not very wide, I think. So also look at that - maybe that curvy kate is one of her narrower styles? But I'm not seeing a lot of tissue escape from the sides. If you get a bigger cup, you might be able to 'scoop and swoop' that tissue inside of the cup.
its very frustrating - I've been mailing things back and forth too!

I was having trouble with my Envy bra where there was a little fold of empty cloth above the underwire and the wire was digging in to my ribs. I was told it was because the bra is too shallow at the bottom - not enough projection in the bottom of the cup - so my breast pushes the bra down to get in to the deeper part . . . pushing the wires below where they belong. Maybe that is happening to you also? But those cups are clearly too small for you, idk

Guys, vertical breast perimeter is not what you should be using... depth of cups is measured more horizontally. Use your lying down perimeter measurement which in this case is 12".
Wires sitting on breast tissue can be due to insufficient width OR depth. I have narrow breast roots that are about 5.2-5.3" wide, but if I try on a bra with correct width that is too small in volume, I also will have wires sitting on my tissue! It's possible that you do have wider than average roots, but I wouldn't necessarily assume that they are super super super wide. Your bust does have a somewhat characteristic "wide shallow boobs" appearance but this can also be due to breast tissue being well-distributed over tall roots, not just wide ones, so don't automatically assume you have the widest boobs in the West :-)
At this point you want to try bras with deeper cups and similar width, as well as bras with greater width, to find out what width really works with your anatomy. I suggest shopping online from a site that does free returns and exchanges!
This bra feels tight because the cups have no room for your boobs, but the reason everything hurts is that the band itself is too loose and isn't anchoring to your body. This causes all the weight of your boobs to be carried by the straps, and this is hurting your body big time. You should try 32s as well as 34s. Most women with your underbust measurements will be comfortable in 32 in some bras and 34s in others. However, again, you won't be able to figure out the right band length if the cups are too small like this!

Continued (sorry, my toddler hit "post" for me, isn't that helpful...!):
Brands known for wide wires include:
* Panache (superbra rather than Cleo, although a select few Cleos are known to be fairly good for wide and shallow boobs)
* Elomi (you won't find anything under a 34G though, so if your best band size turns out to be 32 you'll be sized out)
* Tutti Rouge
* Freya's padded longlines which are OMG SO CUTE. Lucky you if you can wear them! Don't bother with unlined Freyas though, they are probably going to be quite a bit too deep for you.
* Parfait by AffinitasCurvy Kate has supposedly been working on revamping their existing designs to make them LESS wide and shallow. I don't think this necessarily makes them a "narrow" brand though so they're still worth a try for you since the above bra is clearly just the wrong size for you. This might fit great in 32GG as the poster below suggested.

I've never had any luck with CK. Wendybien thanks for the info about measuring while lying down. Now I know why my cups aren't fitting. I've been using the leaning over perimeter.
-
oh no uniteacher ! That explains a lot, didn't you just put up a fit request for a gorgeous red and black bra that was much too big?
-
Yeah. But the weird thing is that I measure 22 lying down and the bra is 20. Maybe the bra is just too tall?
-
Certainly possible, or the line along which you're measuring boob perimeter is not the same line along which you're measuring cup depth if that makes sense? I guess that would also indicate a height issue in the end anyway...
-
Yep. Makes sense. I'll keep trying.

helpfulMy measurements are close to yours (Comfortable 32.5/Loose 34.5/Tight 31.0 & Horizontal 13.0 /Vertical 10.0 / Laying 11.7)
I'm most comfortable in a 32GG. I would try something in that range, Maybe a 34FF/G if you think you're most comfortable in a 34. I agree with dbmamaz , always check the depth before buying if you can, since it will vary with brands/models. If you're in the US, try out amazon. You can get free shipping if you have prime, or spend at least $35 (and usually free returns, so it's no/low risk).Updated on November 8, 2014 Flag this

Also, I find Panache (not Cleo) is usually on the wider side, I generally have to bend my wire narrower. You'll almost definitely want a 34 in their bras though, so 34G I think (but again, check measurements beforehand when possible)
-
I'll definitely start checking the depth before I buy now that I understand the measurements better. Thanks!

dbmamaz you just opened my eyes! All of these resources and I just realized how to use them. The measurement inputs were gibberish to me but I understand now. Teach a person how to fish, right? I just went over my measurements again for myself and the bra.
I made a mistake on the depth of the cup it is actually 10.5 instead of 9.5, sorry about that.
The issue with the tissue on the sides is worse with my bigger left breast. Since I'm right handed it's harder to take a picture from that angle, but I'll put one up.
I wear the bra on the loosest hook. It's hard to explain but its like my breasts are pulling down and pushing the underwire into my ribcage. But that could be from the size...
