Bra fitting help » Really wierd shape
Curvy Kate » Starlet Moulded Bra (CK2501) » 28FF 28:8
Issue resolved
I sold it.
Original problem
Sorry for the pictures, I didn't have the patience to use the camera. I also have problems with the connection so I accidently uploded the pictures multiple times... (Why is there no delete button?)
I got this from brastop some days ago and it's pribably the wierdest fit I ever experienced. The band fits nicely on the tightest hook, but that's about all that fits. I have an CK Emily in 28F that's just a tiny bit small and since the cups on this seemed quite high and I tend to get gaps in high cups I was sure 28FF would fit - but no.
The cups cut in like crazy. I mean look at it. But it doesn't seem to be purly because they're too small, it's acctually shaped like it's meant to do this. Why? Why make a cup that WILL cut in on top? And then it curves outwards as if it's also supposed to make even more clear lines under clothes!
It also give me an orange in the glass effect since it's not projected enough in the bottom. This might work for some, but definately not for me.
I am sincerly amazed by the stupidity if this design. Does this work for anybody? Anyone?
The colour is however the perfect raspberry red I've ever seen and I adore the harlequin pattern and little star pendant, I just wish there would have been equally though put into the fit as the look.
Might the wierd cut-in-cut-out shape be a break in problem?
Isn't there any hack for this kind of problem?
I'm not even considering returning it as would cost as much as the bra itself did.

helpfulThat is exactly how I found the Starlet. It is too closed at the top, which usually means that it is a bra for FOB people, yet it's kinda shallow at the bottom. My guess is that they are trying to make a bullet shape, so for people with a very small root and who are very projected. It seems that both the Starlet, Smoothie, and Daily Boost are going to be as bad for you as they were for me. Have you tried the Roxie? It is the only Curvy Kate style that is really great in my opinion.

helpfulThe cup curling like it is is from 2 problems: The cup is too small for you (look at your BP and look at the cup depth. Big difference. You've got a Horizontal BP of someone who should be wearing something closer to 26H/28GG). It's also evident from the spillover you have at the top, and from the lack of room in the bottom of the cup coupled with the fact that the shape it's giving you is pointy (regardless of it having a point to begin with...it's exaggerated here). Pointy shapes in a foam cup result when the cup is too small.
The second is from poor quality. I have this happen in Freya Deco's and Deco related styles, usually it's from the bras that have trim of any sort, but I also had it happen in their last original shaped Deco Honey (Jade) which was free of trim. There's a fix for it that I wrote about...but it's not going to help you much since you need a larger cup anyhow. http://darth-tardius.blogspot.com/2014/06/bra-flaws-how-to-uncurl-curling-cup.html
Since this is a bra that appears to be geared toward those with tear-drop shaped boobs that are very narrow and need stiff projecting foam with a shallow cut in the bottom of the cup to get any oomph, I don't think a size change is going to help very much. I don't understand why companies think it's a good idea to taper a foam lined cup in the first place either...but most of it has to do with a good majority of women who aren't FOT somehow have the magic ability to sway the company into designing their bras to suit them. Foam cups should be able to stretch a little to accommodate fuller tissue.
It's not that you can't fill the bottom of the cup. If this were the correct shape for you then you'd be able to...and then some. The illusion of what looks like an empty bottom cup in foam bras is actually a sign it's too small, when you have it in addition to spilling over at the top. I can't tell in your photos...but do you have any indentations in the cup, like near the gore extending diagonally towards the apex?

I agree, this is too small and judging from this size I'd probably need a GG cup, which to mee seems huge (normally I only wear G cups 1/3 of each month).
If you look at the picture where I'm not wearing the bra you can see that the top of the cups have this sort of wierd shape, and I didn't cause this. It propbably gets worse when it's on though, because it's too small. I'm not even FOT (I know that my measurements say FOB, but I'm acctually Full in the middle, and slightly more FOB than FOT) and I don't even want to imagine how this would have looked if I were....I was also shocked by the pointy shape, because it's totally round in the stock photos...
I haven't worn this bra for more than 5 mins, so that's why you don't see it, but yes, I get indentations (thanks for teaching me this word! I really needed this one!)as wide as my indexfinger on the bottom of the cups. I get this in many bras, so it's not my biggest problem. I don't see why manufacturers seem to make shallow bottomed cups as a standard, I mean, there must be at least as many who need more projected bottoms?

Because the cup is so small it appears you have a lot of top fullness. But you also have breast tissue that starts high. And if this bra is anchored directly under your boobs, you also have tissue that ends low. It could entirely be just an illusion though, since it's a tiny fit.
I asked about the indents because that's a good way to tell a moulded bra is too small in the cup. You fill out too much of the apex and top of the cup that it forces the fabric to collapse in on itself because it cannot contain the weight. Not many women realize this is a fit issue. The Freya Deco is very guilty of causing this in those who are able to fill out the old styles, it gives us "mondo cleavage" as described by someone else on here. Having the cup shallow on the bottom serves as a push-up without the padding, even if the bra isn't labeled as such. Sex sells...lol!

I can picture the mondo-cleavage, but why is it called that?

That's the name NeverTookHomeEc gave it.

helpfulOh snap... I just bought a Starlet in 32E and it's coming to me right now... I hope it won't look like that. Maybe you should try a more open style, like Roxie or Ritzy....

Good to know this happened to more people!
No haven't tried the Roxie. I've tried the emily, but since it's a soft cup it's more flexible, and the Carmen in 28FF which is much better than this shapewise! Although the gore doesn't tack because it's a bit too shallow. I probably won't try any other molded CK unless it's immensly pretty...
