Original problem
Based on some recent research I believe I'm full on top and maybe have a shallow root? I tried a couple other bras and they seemed either too closed on top or they were too shallow for me. I decided to try this after many recommendations. This bra seemed deep enough. The band seemed way too tight, the underwires were hurting me from how tight it was and someone recommended that I try an extender which can be seen in one of the photos. The extender really helped and I no longer feel pain from the wires. Also, I was told to lower the back part which I did on this case. It seems like there might be some digging in the front and possibly some escaped tissue left. Should I go up to 30D? What other bras could I try?

helpfulThe band is much too tight. My underbust measurements are smaller than yours, and I have to pick a 32 band in the Marcie in order to be able to wear it comfortably.
The Marcie runs super tight and this will make the center gore dig in painfully.
Also, the cups look much too small in the picture - I'd try a 30DD/32D and see how it fits.Updated on August 15, 2014 Flag this

helpfulIt seems like this bra has basically the right shape. I would try a 30D and a 30DD Marcie.
If you are adamant about trying other styles, I would go any other Cleo bra except the Lucy.

helpfulYes, pink Marcies run really tight--ouch! I just tried one on today again and was reminded of this, it was killing me ;-P
However--the Marcie, and unpadded Cleos in general are not a very good match for your shape. You have a tall breast shape (which some people also do call full on top, although the concepts are not exactly the same in all regards) meaning your breast tissue is distributed over a good height on your torso, and you have fullness that continues higher than what unpadded Cleos are designed to accommodate. They are typically made to fit people whose breast tissue is very concentrated on a smaller area, lower down on the torso compared to you for example.
Look for cups that are very open on top, with vertical seams and only vertical seams (no transversal seams, no balconnet shapes). Like the Freya longlines for example. I'm not sure those would work for you necessarily but by looking at the photos you will see the kind of construction that I mean. Maybe Mimi Holliday also has some models in this size range that might be good, I'm not sure.

helpfulYour bra is sitting just a little too low overall, and the cups are too small. Even though your BP's match very close to the cup depth on this bra...when you have the band anchored lower on your frame than it should be, it causes the top of the cup to dig in more. In photos 5, 6 and 9 you can see you're filling the top more than the bottom.
First what you need to do is determine if it's the band that's too small, or the cups. Try on the bra backwards and upside down (still right side out though) exactly where you would wear the bra at proper band level. What eye can you comfortably fasten it on? Do you still need the extender, or not? If you don't then you only need to size up in the cup. Try a 28E. If the band is still tight or you can only fasten it comfortably with the extender, then try a 30DD and scoop all of your tissue into the cups. You have a lot of migrated tissue that is not being contained. You could also benefit from a bra with taller wings, but going up a cup size may fix this just enough without the wings feeling like they're too tall.
Because you're not 100% scooped in, this could also be giving the appearance of a too low bra.

Actually I can make it go any higher since it's right on the fold. I tried it on again today and it's definitely small in the cups. The reason why I fill the top more is because I'm fuller on top than I am at the bottom. I tried what you said about the band to see if it's too tight and it really is.I had it on the loosest hook and it was too tight. Before seeing this I had actually ordered the Marcie in 30D and the band was better. Might try a 30DD next. With the 30D I noticed that the bottom tissues seems to be too squished like there's not enough room at the bottom.

The thing with bras that are open on top is that they tend to have very wide underwires. Masquerade Rhea is one such bra. So is the b.tempt'd Ciao Bella. They say that Curvy Kate Tease Me and Thrill Me have narrower wires, but are they narrow enough?
