Issue resolved
It's fine now I listened to their advice
Original problem
Tried calculating my size, it said I should be a 30D (approximately), tried a typical bra calculator: 36AA...This is a 34B in UK sizes and now that I've learned what an ill-fitting bra looks like, this doesn't seem right at all. But I don't know where to start. Band feels tight and loose at same time, with underwire digging in from all directions. The cup seems a bit small, especially on the outer sides. The cup sometimes gapes in the middle, but the gore is tight and flat against my sternum. And the straps fall down all the time. Any advice or diagnoses would be appreciated. Thanks in advance

helpfulYes the cup is tiny (can't properly cup the breast and sits on top of breast tissue) while the band is likely too big--although right now you are using 3-4" of band to cover the sides of your breasts, which ought to be supported by a cup instead, so it's hard to tell!
Your most comfortable band size will probably vary from bra to bra--30 in looser-running bras (Freya is known for loose bands for example), 32 in tighter ones.
Cup size should probably be somewhere in the D, DD or E region. This can also change depending on the bra--for example you might fit really well into a 30D in many bras, but you could also need 32D in Cleo or even a 32DD in a brand that runs small in both band and cup, or a 30E in Chantelle or a 30DD in Freya.
Basically it is a bit like dress sizes or jean sizes. You have a specific size range that is logical for your body but within that range the fit will usually vary depending on the design of each bra you try.

helpfulHonestly, before going from a 34B to a 30D, try a 32C first. It is a nice intermediate step between the two. If the cups on a 32C are too tight, try a 32D.
32C and 32D bras are actually very easy to find.

I would have to disagree with you on this. It's much easier to find problems with the shape/size of the bra when you have a very snug band. She also has a lot of 'squish' in her measurements so a 32 band would likely need to be very tight with to show all of the fit issues.
I would actually suggest a 30DD or 30DDD/E based on the horizontal breast perimeter. They are not too hard to find depending on your location and they will be better for diagnosing the fit better than simply trying a sister size of this bra, which is clearly too small in the volume in the cup. -
I also found that sister-sizing up one band caused fit issues with the cup height, width of strap placement, etc for me. I wouldn't recommend sister-sizing up-- I'd start with +0 and then work your way up if you find that (with the band upside down and cups at your back) the band feels too snug. I agree with animated here.

helpfulWell the first thing I look at is stretched band, if the stretched band is the same as your snug measurement, your cups are very likely to be misshapen. If you look at the cup depth and your laying breast perimeter (often the smallest measurement) the cup is about 2 inches to small for you.
