Bra fitting help » In the Middle with Curvy Kate's Smoothie?
Curvy Kate » Smoothie Moulded Bra (CK2401) » 38F 38:7
Issue resolved
It seems with Curvy Kate I'll always have to go up a few cup sizes (from FF into the G-H range). If I have the opportunity to purchase this bra again, I'll probably get a 36 in one of the aforementioned cup sizes. Thanks all!
Original problem
I'm stuck in the middle with this bra. I ordered a cup down from my true size (from 38FF to 38F) and the bra fits as if I would've ordered the FF, it would be too big-- my gore doesn't lay flat (and it doesn't by the smallest measurement, about 1/4-1/2 inch) but it fits otherwise. Quite comfy too.
I don't know how else this bra could've worked. Perhaps it's the mash-up of plunge and full-cup and the bra just doesn't work for my boobs? Maybe a band size lower? Maybe it's because I'm full on bottom?
I'm really out of options. I plan on keeping it, but I would like the other color too, so here's to hoping my next purchase truly fits!

helpfulI could really use a side photo before giving an opinion. Also did you scoop and swoop right before these photos?
This is not a "cleavage" (I.e. Boobs pushed together) bra, by the way. If you, or reviewers on the site where you bought it have been thinking of it as such this would induce fitting errors because everyone would be mistaking signs of poor fit for intended sexy cleavage! This bra, when it fits well, is designed to lift and separate. You, as an individual, don't have a large space between the breasts so you would probably get almost-touching décolletage anyway but in the correct size you will not get this effect of the boobs being pushed to the center. That is happening in the 38F because the cups are not deep enough for your breasts.

Many curvy kates run shallow, but I just got a Lola on sale - its gives a strangely square shape and is visible under a t-shirt, but nice and deep and lower cut than most of my bras (most of mine are very full coverage, 32J is hard to support otherwise)

yes, generally CK bras are on the wider, shallower side but the Smoothie and Daily Boost are worth trying... I often hear that they work well for people who require large cup volumes. I would try sizes in the region of 38G, 38 GG / 36GG or 36H.

helpfulJust looking at the numbers, it seems like the cup depth is WAY too small for you. The cup depth of the bra is 12", yet your horizontal measurement is 17". Most of us (not all, but a large majority) wear bras in which the cup depth is close (usually within 1-2 inches, depending on how soft and pendulous you are) of your horizontal measurement.
Do you have quad boob, meaning do you have breast tissue pushing out of the top of the cups?

I just found that I got really nice cleavage from the bra. Everything was smooth. :(

BumbleBean Oi, it seems as my first comment didn't go through! It said that, no, I don't have quad boob. If I would've ordered a smaller bra, I would be spilling out without a doubt. I'm very bottom and side heavy and pendulous and rather flat on top-- I steer clear of full cup bras because I never fill them at the top, never.

Her laying breast perimeter is only 15. I still think the cups are too small, but esp too shallow? The bottom of the cup on the right side of the picture looks like its not full. It just looks like your boobs arent all the way inside the cup because they dont fit.
No one said to order a smaller bra - everyone is suggesting you go up a cup size. What was your reason for going down a cup size?
and as for smaller band - the band seems ok. If its fastened on its loosest setting and you cant pull the band out in the back more than the width of your hand, the band is ok. But the cups really look too small.

dbmamaz , a few reviewers on the site that I ordered the bra from recommended a sizing down. That seemed to be the trend, so I followed suit. Also, 38FF was not available so I figured why the hell not.
I can pull the band out a bit actually, but it is still comfortable. I fear 36 bands will always be too small, considering I'm harboring more than a few rolls in the back area.
So it seems that I should size down in the band and up the cup-- how about 36FF/G?

Looks to me like the wires are too narrow, and maybe the bra is sitting too low. I'm not sure the cups are too shallow, though, especially since you say there's no quadding. I think the gore is a little wide, but again, it's difficult to tell. If it were my bra, I would bend the wires a little wider so the cups can nestle snugly up under your boobs. Spreading the wires will also flatten the cups just a bit, which should push some of your tissue up to help fill the upper area of the bra.

Kristine , I will try your method, as the bra is, in my eyes, quite close to fitting and needs adjustment rather than a return. I will try not to be heavy-handed and see how that goes. Thank you!

wellendowed, I hope it works for you. Please let us know either way.
-
wellendowed Do you swoop and scoop at all when you put on your bra?
-
BumbleBean Yes, I do swoop and scoop.
-
wendybien I will add a side picture. I do swoop and scoop.
I wan't too sure what the bra was for, but the gore is low on me so I figured it was a plunge of sorts, but not so plungey that it was inappropriate for everday wear. I figured there would be cleavage, but not over the top.
What cup would you suggest? Is a shallow cup a thing with Curvy Kate?
