Bra fitting help » Boobs sink to bottom. Shape or cup issue?

Issue resolved
The S cut doesn't work for me. I'm going to try some 3Ds.
Original problem
My boobs just sink to the bottom. I thought an S bra would help but now I'm thinking I should get a 3D. I don't know if it's the shape or the cup size or both. Either way I'll be returning it.

helpfulIf it were any one thing, I'd say to try a different size. The cups look a bit large overall, and if you've got gaps on the top of both, going down a cup size would make sense. The cup shape for this bra appears rather tall from the images on its page, so it may be that it is simply too full a cup shape to fit you comfortably.
But you also say the band feels too tight AND the shoulders seem to be slipping off. The images suggest (in my limited experience with fitting other women) that the band is a bit too snug and is naturally sliding toward a place with a narrower circumference (your waist). If you decide to try another size of this bra, I'd suggest going to a 75DD.

I can relate to the narrow shoulders, and although I'm 5'5" I have a *very* short torso, so I get straps slipping if I can't haul most of the length in.
You said it yourself: EMs run tight. If they run tight, and you're normally a 70, it might be good idea to try a 75. I can only guess, because I'm not in the room with you, but it looks to me like you might be getting the "sinking to the bottom" effect because the band is riding down your torso, slipping toward your (narrower) waist, so the bra isn't actually supporting your breasts at all. If you want this style, I'd start with a 75DD to try on.
As to your most recent question, I'm afraid I have no personal experience with EMs, so it's a bit hard to guess if the plunge styles would work better for you. Do plunge styles usually suit your breast shape? If so, it might work well in this brand as with any other. If you're thinking it'd be better because they're targeted for smaller cup sizes, the info on EMs does say that the 3D is the smaller-breasted model of the S, so that might be a better choice for you.
Hope this helps!

I'm normally a 60 or 65. 70 is going up. I'm afraid a 75 would be too big And the cups would be even taller. Yeah. I think I'll try a 3D. I don't really know what will work. I was pregnant and nursing and now my daughter is three and nursing. Once I find something that works my boobs change. It's so hard. My boobs are close together as well.
-
Boy do I get that; after nursing my kiddos I am up 3-4 cup sizes and a band size from my pre-baby bra size. When they were infants, I was up an additional 3 cup sizes--so don't necessarily expect things to stay the same, even from this point.
Out of curiosity, are you trying to find something that will allow for easy access while nursing, or a bra to wear when you don't anticipate needing to nurse? I ask because there are plenty of really great nursing bra options out there that are functional, supportive, and quite lovely all in one.
-
Don't need anything for nursing. She really only nurses at home so I just go topless :) nursing for three years. I don't want to go back to nursing bras!
I'm kind of the same size. Maybe smaller? I wish I could get measured. Maybe this summer.
-
Measuring yourself with a cloth tape measure is pretty simple, and just as accurate. If you have a friend or significant other who could help, that also works. I don't live within 100 miles of a store that doesn't do +4, so I've been doing my own measurements and shopping online for 7 years--since I found out that bras my size actually existed.

I've got a tape measure. I measure 70 under my bust. My nearest good store would be on another continent. Yea!

helpfulHow about the underwires in this size, aren't they to narrow? The band is too tight and the cups are too big, that’s why the straps are too far apart.
If you want to try the 3D cut in this model, I would also suggest 75DD, the cups should be a little bit smaller and wider than in this one, but the center gore will be lower, rather like in the PL cut. I think you would need 70dd/75d in the S cut which unfortunately doesn’t exist.
I saw that you have already tried the PL cut, does it fit you like you wish? What exactly are you looking for in the S cut – more uplift? I think that the sinking to the bottom of the cups will disappear with the right cup size. Both 3D and PL can fit great on your boobs. I personally prefer PL to 3D cut, it runs lower under the armpits and has narrower underwires.Updated on November 7, 2014 Flag this

The PL fits me when my daughter was younger and my boobs were fuller. Yes, I wanted more uplift. Does PL have lower cups than the 3Ds?
-
I don't own any 3d bra anymore, but if memory serves me right, they have lower gore and cups in the center and run higher on the sides. I get better cleavage and uplift in PL but I haven't tried all 3d models though. I send you a PM with a comparison that may interest you :)

helpfulIs it possible that you are conical? (Here's a drawing: NSFW: http://nyad.files.wordpress.com/2011/05/m252cpointy2bbreast.jpg?w=234)
I don't think this bra is too large for you in the cups. I personally see a large shape mismatch.
This fit looks similar to what I often experience. The bra is not projected enough where I need it most, and together with my utter lack of upper fullness, this causes the bra to gap at the top. Do you feel like this applies to you too?
I was advised to try an EM CHP, maybe this will also work for you?Updated on November 8, 2014 Flag this

Those look like my boobs! Maybe the CHP would work. I don't have a lot of space between my boobs near the gore. I'll wait for EMs new bras to come out. What size in CHP do you think would work for me?
-
I have yet to receive my order from EM, so I'm not sure what size will work for you.
I have a 30 inch snug and 28 inch tight underbust measurement and I ordered a 70 band from EM. -
70 seems ok for the band. I just don't know about the cup. Maybe D.
-
I believe EM also does DD, so one cup size down would be 70DD, not 70D.
But I don't think this bra is too small in the cups for you. -
Ok. I thought it was a couple sizes too small. I'll wait for her new bras to come out. I'm going to be sending this one back. Sad it didn't work out.

helpfulthe cups are far too large; also yes try 3D it will be a more appropriate cut for you
You've gotten good advice except that people are telling you to try 75DD. While the advice to go up a band size is sound (EM sizing does NOT line up with UK sizing, a common misconception) the advice to stay in the same cup size is not. This cup size is just too big for you overall.

Thanks. I'm thinking about trying a 70C or 70D in 3D or CHP. Though th CHP straps are far apart. Do you think any of those would work?
-
Yeah, maybe, although if you think the wide straps might bother you you should stick with 3D instead of CHP.
In terms of band size, the stretched measurement of this bra puts it at a 28 band while you need a UK 30 band, plus you marked it as too tight, so that would indicate going to a 75. I know she calls this "34," but as you can see it's obviously not. Cup size wise, I'd lean toward the 70D/75C cup volume.
-
75B/C? So frustrating. Shipping to Asia is expensive. Plus all her fees. And I can only order a few or face paying custom duties.
-
70s seem to work. I usually wear a 28 or 30. But EMs run tight. Do you think a 3D or PL would work? I'm barely over five feet and have narrow shoulders :(
