Bra fitting help » Should I stay or should I go?
Ewa Michalak » Sm Fiolecik (642) » 70J 32:13
Issue resolved
Once properly swooped-and-scooped, it seems to fit fine. Hubby says it holds me very high. There is a slight gap at the bottom of the cups, but it seems ok
Original problem
So, this bra was the one that convinced me to order from EM, but doesnt fit as well as my 70HH - Ewa Michalak » Bm Bibi Beżowa Perła (533) . The band on this bra stretches 3 inches less than the Perla's band, necessitating the extender.
Now, even with the extender, the straps fit fine (last bra I needed an extender for, the straps were then too far out). But I'm not at all confident this band will ever stretch far enough for me to wear it without the extender - its super firm material.
Likewise, the cups are not a great fit, either. They are slightly flat (hard to see in the pictures) and slightly tall. The loose fabric on top does not seem to show through a shirt, so it does not bother me.
Someone suggested I send it back for a 75HH. I'm waffling. I mean, it took 6 weeks to get the bra the first time, and I'd have to wait for shipping both ways plus for them to make another bra . . . and pay for shipping both ways.
So . . . vote for keep or exchange! and feel free to give any other feedback, as well.

helpfulI say do a second extender (you can sew them in place permanently) and keep it.

haha ack, now i'm completely baffled as to what to do! What do you mean by a second extender, though?
-
Just that. Get another little extender band and add it to the first--the same way you attached the first one to the bra itself.
-
But I mean, WHY use two extenders? Its a fine fit with the one extender.
-
Probably thought it was a tight fit with one?
-
I could let it out - it not on the tightest hook on the extender

helpfulI'd say return it and order a 75HH/80H (and perhaps go down one cup size too? I'm not sure).
Alternatively, you could try to sell it and just place a new order - this would save you 1x the shipping cost.By the way, do you have a non-stretchy extender at your fingertips? I'd highly recommend this since it would give a way better impression of the band fit than this one (which seems to have spandex in it).
If you can wear it comfortably with a non-stretchy extender, go for a 75 band. Otherwise, I'd go for an 80. Fiolecik seems to run extraordinarily tight, even for an Ewa bra!Updated on March 17, 2015 Flag this

I measure the difference between stretched bands as 3 inches, but i guess I dont know if thats 1 size up or two. these are the only extenders I own, and I had to put it on the tightest setting (the extender, I mean - tightest bra eyes and tightest extender eyes). 80 seems nuts . ..
-
xelestial can you tell me what the stretched band measurement is on yours? or if you think it fits more like a 32 or 34 of other brands (like, say, Panache)
-
I can't tell you the stretched band because I stopped doing stretched bands because I don't seem to know how far to stretch them - all of my measurements were marked too short and I'm unwilling to stretch to the max cuz I'll probably break it.
I can't really recall how Panache's 32's fit right now, but I think it's definitely looser than a 30 from Panache. I guess it fits like a tight to average 32 band maybe?
My SM trefl I'm wearing today is also like a looser 32 band I *think*. It's tough to say because I don't wear UK 32 bands anymore since I'm sized out. But I know it's a bit tighter than my 34 bands. I feel that the band is very firm but not necessarily tight on this bra...
I agree it looks like you need to go down a cup size.
For the pure fact that the SM's can just barely fit me, who would be a 75L in their S bras, I think they run big.
-
oh, yes, 75J, not HH . . . blarg. Dont think I want to go any smaller than that cuz its already tight, just too high
-
I mean, the cup squishes me. I dont want a shallower cup than that, the loose fabric on top is ok, but cups being shallower would not be.
-
I just edited and took out the size because my brain is currently addled and I can't recall what size you'd be. I think 75HH is same as a 70J? Or is it 70JJ...urgh I need a chart.
-
haha yeah, now you got me confused. Going up a band size means I should go down a cup letter, in order to stay at the same cup size. I was for some reason thinking I would be going DOWN a band size, but still not making sense.
-
The cups when going down are always going to be shallower, but it doesn't mean you'll be squishing out. There's just too much material there in my opinion, which is why I also feel you need to go down a cup size or so. This bra is a pretty firm fit normally. There shouldn't be that much material. And it doesn't look like you're getting much lift either. I'm sure it's not what you want to hear, but I think that's the solution.

If you went up a band size, and down a cup size, it looks like you'd order a 75H? Because HH is a cup smaller and a 75HH would be bigger than a 70HH...
This could be wrong though, I just came back from giving a lot of blood and haven't had lunch yet XD
You're definitely a bit smaller than me though ad I can fit in the 75.
-
argg. need to try it on again and think. I just want a floris now lol
-
Floris is so stabby for me. Be careful and make sure you size down too because Floris was like 1-2 cup sizes big for me.
Give it a day, I always do before making a decision, and try rearranging breast tissue.
-
I own a floris in 32J and its the best fitting bra I own. Can you at least tell me what your underbust measurements are? To help me decide about the 75 band?
-
Ok, just re-tried-on the bra. I must have failed to scoop-and-swoop this morning, because hubby was in a hurry to get to work. I scooped-and-swooped and there was no extra fabric on my bigger side and I looked better supported. Also, hubby took those pics from very close and most of them from above, so its a bad angle. I definitely do not want a smaller cup volume than what I have.
-
> these are the only extenders I own, and I had to put it on the tightest setting (the extender, I mean - tightest bra eyes and tightest extender eyes)
You can make this one into a non-stretchy extender by simply sewing the hooks and eyes parts together to 'bridge over' the stretchy part.
Should take no more than 5 minutes, no sewing skills required!> 80 seems nuts
It may seem so, but I can assure you that it isn't that implausible. With a tight underbust measurement of 78.7 cm you're right between the 75 and 80 band size.
I have a tight underbust of 27" (69cm) and I've encountered Ewa bras with 70 bands that were too tight for me!If you're okay with wearing an extender during the first few weeks, 75 should be fine. ;)
-
If what you said about swoop and scoop is true (i definitely have this issue a lot where I don't arrange right) then I agree with Wendy's suggestion...
My comfortable underbust is apparently 82 cm, think it used to be 78 before I gained a little weight.
Also you're normally a 32JJ right? So that makes sense what I said about Floris. 34K was too big for me and that's what I normally wear.
-
Normally - well, I only really fit my Floris which is a 32J. The Lola 32JJ is a little big. The Marcie 32HH is a little small. The Envy 32J fits well too. So I think 32J is my normal, but that really depends on what brand is your normal, right? 32J is my normal in panache.
and yes, an extender for a month or two is fine, forever seems like a problem.
-
Oh, and actually when I did the measurement for EM's calculator, I blew out my breath and pulled really hard and got down to a 70 cm. Loose measurement was 81. These were obviously more recent than whats stored here, which was done last summer. I think I've lost 3 lb? (idk, i might vary that much in a monthly cycle, but also overall have lost a small amount of weight)
-
I think my ribcage is less stable since having kids. I"m so short that the baby actually pushed my rib out a little in an attempt to find space.
-
Ugh, ouchies.
Mine may be the same too because like ??? my rib cage measurements are all up and down...but are usually around 31-32 inches. Your measurements you just listed sound like my old ones.

helpfulI don't think the fit looks terrible. If you find it comfortable, keep it and just use an extender. Myself, I'd keep it based on the fact of the hassle of returns and fees AND that it isn't a horrible fit, not to mention it's a gorgeous bra.

helpfulMy question is if you would ever reach for this (admittedly very pretty) bra over your Floris? if not, then you need to pass on this one and either try another size or if you are not that bothered about another Ewa, get another Floris.

You know, thats exactly what I've been thinking about. Hubby told me to go ahead and cut off the tag and keep it, since I love the fabric anyways. and i still will take better pics - well, mirro out-of-focus pics wher I have scooped and swooped. But I need to wear it around the house for an hour or two and see how it does. Because while I love the fabric - even scooped-and-swooped, I know I'm wearing an extender and I'm pretty sure its a tad shallow.
I'm thinking it fits more like a 30J?

If you don't need to go down a cup size, then I agree with this one since I know you don't want to return it.
