Issue resolved
bra is too small
Original problem
Just wanted to see what you gals thought about fit since I am new to proper bra fit. I measure 27" underbust and about 31.5" across the fullest part of my bust when leaning forward. I think that makes me a 28D normally, but I am also thin and athletic, so I think a 28 band feels too tight. I prefer a 30 band so far, usually 30C or sometimes 30B.
Looking at this photo, would you say the band looks too tight (see the back fat?) and the cup a tiny bit too small (is that breast tissue coming out the side?).. or do the cups actually fit and it's the band tightness causing that side breast tissue to appear as if it is sort of coming out? Or is it just the shape of this bra's cup? It is quite a petite and pointy cup.

helpfulCould you possibly give us a frontal shot? My impressions:
1. The band appears to be too tight. It also looks like it's not horizontal, but rather is lower in the back.
2. It appears like the band might be too low in front, but without a frontal shot, it's hard to tell. It is a plunge bra, after all.
3. The cups appear to be too small. They also look too closed on top, and the wire doesn't seem to extend far enough on the side.
4. How loose (or tight) are the straps? Have you tried shortening them just a bit? It's a very pretty bra and the color goes well with your skin tone.
Those are my impressions, but I'm pretty new to this whole proper fit thing as well, and I'm eager to learn more.

Thanks, ruch, that photo helps some. It definitely looks like you're wearing the bra too low. In the photo, it appears that each breast is starting to curve away from your sternum perhaps a bandwidth's distance above where the cup wire starts to curve. If that makes sense.
I still feel like the cups are too small, but it's possible the wire width is OK, especially if you go with a larger band size. The wire length might still be too short, though, but if you size up the cup, that may just do it.
So, size up in band and cup, and check the placement to make sure it's snug under your boobs, right at the inframammary fold.

helpfulThat bra is super pretty. That being said, you indicated that the band only stretches to 28.5" even though it should have stretched to 30". Since you have indicated that you have a low bodyfat percentage, you should definitely get 30 band bras that actually stretch to 30 inches.
As for the cups, I don't think that they are too big or too small. I think that the basic shape is correct for you, as is the width of the cup. I do think that you would be better off with underwires that go up slightly higher than this bra does; the Lepel Iris Plunge looks like it was made for people with short roots and your roots are a bit taller. I would have recommended the Lepel Fiore Plunge as that one has underwires that go significantly higher at the sides; however, that bra also has a very tight band.
So, as for finding a 30 band bra that actually stretches to 30 inches with underwires that go up a bit higher at the sides, maybe try the Aerie Sunnie? Aerie and Gilly Hicks might be good places to look.

helpfulI think you need a slightly bigger cup. In my experience, back and side bulges usually happens when there's not enough coverage in the cup to scoop all the breast tissue into. For me it happened when I was wearing bands that were too large and cups that were too small and it made my band feel too tight because it was pushing into tissue. I would also say try finding a cup that is wider and taller rather than being so deep/pointed as your shape looks shallow. Maybe try a soft fabric cup instead of a padded one--i find they tend to have more coverage in general.

helpfulthe cups don't fit you right, they are very low on you. Underwires should be 1 inch longer at the sides for better uplift. Right now this bra looks more like covering the bottom of your breasts, not holding them. i think, this (http://www.brastop.com/lepel-iris-plunge-bra-pale-pink) is the right fit and the right height of the cups on the model.
So the cup is not short and pointy by itself, but there is a possibility that is smaller sizes it will never be tall enough. So I would advice you to try it in as many sizes as you can, from 28Ds to 32C. if you only can change it online, start with 30C.Updated on January 3, 2015 Flag this

helpfulI dont let back fat determine the band fit. The band fit should be firm enough so you cant fit your whole hand, sideways, under the band - like the width of your hand. It shouldnt be so tight that its painful. But if we are flabby - we're flabby. Thats not really the bras fault, I think.
OTOH, the cup? I'm really not sure - its such a different fit than mine, I'm not a good judge on if that is really boob or not. Hvae you tried scooping and swooping it in to the bra?

I did swoop & scoop and that is how the bra looks when I do that. I am actually really thin with low body fat percentage since I am athletic (I have maybe 20% body fat, under 5'2" and weight around 105lb). I have read before that athletic bodies or thin bodies sometimes need larger band sizes than their measurement indicates because a tight band is uncomfortable with not enough fat to cushion (though I seem to be fine here judging from this photo, haha) or because muscles change the shape/size of your body.
The band feels uncomfortable to me. I did read other reviews of this bra and people said the band is tighter and people would suggest to size up.

No, if the band is uncomfortable, size up. Just not ONLY because of back fat (and thats not fat, thats skin). A larger band size should have a slightly wider cup - and in fact, if you use the same cup size, it will be slightly larger all around. Trying different sizes is always good, tho its certainly frustrating if you are mail ordering everything. Last time I ordered a different size first, before returning the first one, just to be sure

helpfulThe side wires look like they are on your outer breast tissue. It looks like the inner wires are on you inner breast tissue. I would try a 30C with an extender if the band still feels too tight. or a 32B.

Thanks, Kristine! I just added a front view of the bra. I love the colour as well. If it were not for bad fit, and also the pointy look of this bra (I prefer a rounded look), I would love to keep it!
