Bra fitting help » 30E or 30DD? (Or neither?)
Parfait By Affinitas » Jeanie Plunge Molded Padded Bra (4801) » 30E 30:6
Issue resolved
Another bra that seems to be the wrong fit for my shape.
Original problem
I'm torn between this, the 30E, and the 30DD (pix: http://www.bratabase.com/bra/dlvh7/).
30E: Gaping at the top of the cups (tried to show this), which I don't really fill out—I am pretty FoB, and this is a molded cup, so that is semi-expected, though not ideal.
30DD: Lots of "ooomph" (which is good, as I've always hated the girls, TBH), but maybe too much (too much of a good thing! How can I be so picky?). I do at least seem to fill out (overfill?) the entire cup.
Is the Jeanie supposed to provide all of that cleavage? Which do you all think is the better fit?
Sorry to post so many requests...until I get a better grasp on the right size, you all are my only help!

helpfulI'm gonna vote the 30E. The gore float you mention on the 30DD is a sure indicator the cups are too small, and it appears they cut in too sharply at the top. The 30E looks better, even with the slight gaping - that is common in molded cups, and I don't see it in the pics you have proper posture. I always seem to want a tighter band too - our ribcages are very similar! *off to follow you*

helpfulThis bra just has very shallow cups. If you look at the measurements you've taken, the cups look to be only 2" deeper than they are wide... that's virtually flat. You, on the other hand, are not flat! Although you have a slope of shallow tissue that goes to your collarbone, the part of your boobs that needs a bra's support is fairly projected. No offense, but I feel like you are a little bit in denial about how much room your boobs need You want to find a bra shape that works with your anatomy. I see in your bra list that you've tried models that could work, but in absurdly small sizes (like the animal print Freya Deco). Search for the size where cup depth is at least 8.5".

Well, you could be off by 1/2 or 3/4 of an inch, but there is no way you can be overestimating your boob perimeter by a huge amount--looking at all the cup depths of these too-small bras, the fit, or lack thereof, is perfectly consistent with the breast perimeter measurement you have down in your chart above.
The negative ease discussion on the Patsy thread made me LOL. Molded bra cups are not made of elastic material, they have zero ease. That is why it is so darned hard to get a fit in moldeds--the cups need to match your shape and volume EXACTLY. Most seamed bra cups similarly have no stretch factor although sometimes you can get stretch lace on the upper half. Only seamless and sports bras are typically made with materials with a little bit of stretch.

You are right about negative ease; I keep thinking of, say, a sweater and how I want it to hug all of the proverbial right places. I wish I didn't so hate just regular plain old bras! (Without molding, I mean—this is one reason I so like the Patsy, actually; it is more of a soft cup, but there's juuuuust enough padding—more like lining—for modesty.)
Of course, since you looked at the Patsy measurement discussion—am I on the right track? Like I said, if I overmeasured it was only ("only", ha!) by maybe an inch.

Yeah I don't think you're overmeasuring. I certainly don't see you in massively oversized bras in any of your photos--you've been erring on the side of too small instead. Try sizing up!
If you think of unpadded bras as "regular plain old" you may need to revisit the subject now you are in a better size range. It's true that if you previously were in very poorly-fitting bras (too large in band and small in cups) then unpadded bras certainly can make someone look small and saggy, but I think you'll find it is quite different with a good fit. Unless your nipples can cut glass or you wear gossamer thin clothes every day of the week, it's likely that you would not be showing as much as you think in a properly fitted non-molded, seamed bra.

helpfulJeanie has some tall cups. I have a similar shape (wide, on the shallow side, full on bottom), and what would happen is that I'd fall out of the middle in a Jeanie that I couldn't fill at the top. The 30DD looks too small to me- I would guess it's cutting into you near your sternum because it's shallow there. I can't really tell from the photos, because I'd need a tricky camera angle.
Do your breasts make a heroic bid for freedom if you run in the bra or do jumping jacks? If they succeed or come close to doing so, I'd say it's definitely too small.
I think the 30E is a better fit. Is the empty space at the top of the cup uncomfortable?Updated on April 24, 2015 Flag this

No, just...unattractive.

Well, there's a bit of confusion regarding the actual necessary depth, which I'm trying to figure out in the thread about Freya's Patsy (http://www.bratabase.com/troubleshoot/dlvhc/). I may have measured a bit too far back. I do think this is probably not the right fit for my shape, though (darnit).
