Bra fitting help » 28G Hatty, on the right track? Gaps, wide straps, wires funky?
Freya » Deco Hatty Moulded Plunge Bra (1281) » 28G 28:9
Issue resolved
It's not that bad, it's wearable. Would like to find a Deco variety that isn't so open on top. This helped determine my shape and projection more.
Original problem
I think I'm on the right track. Note the slight-to-major gapping depending on arm position. wendybien - thoughts? This bra is better than I thought it'd be.
You can see in my front shot what I talk about in my review with the center gore and wires looking like they don't line up with my boobs. Review here: http://www.bratabase.com/bra/dlsk3/ Then again, if I pay attention, I think all my bras do this.
Straps seem a bit wide set.
No surprise there for me. Since I seem to be a terrible evaluator of bras these days, just let me know what you think and what I should look at next! Much prefer molded/semi-molded cups, doesn't have to be seamless.

helpfulThis looks like quite a decent fit. Molded or padded cups will always gape if you are in the wrong position--don't judge them on that If it's comfortable I'd call it a keeper!

Umm so I'm not totally sure I understand the question but I think you are asking if the underwire is meant to stretch open/open up a bit when the bra is worn? if so, the answer is yes. Different wires can be pulled out more than others but overall the width of the wire when worn will be greater than when unworn (unless the band is absurdly loose on you).
-
Yeah that's what I was going for lol. I didn't know if stretching them open was bad, and to what extent, cause when the bra is off and held up to my boob they're too narrow. So they are stretching open when the bra is on, and I don't want to damage them. Thanks!
So where would you say the Deco varieties fall on the spectrum of narrow/projected & wide/shallow? In my size range, since the smaller they go the shallower they probably get. What other styles besides Decos might be worth a shot? Not necessarily Freya, especially since their bands tend to run stretchy (except the strapless I tried, holy cow that was a firm band) and I could hook this baby up on the middle hooks if I wanted to but I'd like to try to preserve it as long as possible. And yeah, this bra gives me boobs for days but there's some situations & shirts I have where I don't particularly want that look. And is it possible for some people to be able to wear both bras that are considered "more projected" and bras that are considered "more shallow-ish?" Like I still have a 28GG Maddie on my Amazon wish list, and the measurements are the same but if it's like the opposite shape of a Deco it might not be worth even trying. And I have this 28G Liliana arriving at some point from the UK, which is almost universally reviewed as shallow, so might be a total flop. I also have a Freya Instinct padded half cup on my wish list that I think I will try.
Sorry for so many questions! Never paying attention to widths and shapes has left me kinda clueless.
-
The original Freya Deco is supposed to be average width, fairly deep and projected shape (though not extremely so). I believe the other Decos are average width and average projection.
Maddie is known to be SUPER shallow, so it stands to reason unfortunately that it wouldn't be a fantastic fit for someone who does well in average width/average projection. I wouldn't bother with it.
Liliana has its followers even among women who aren't particularly shallow so I think it is more versatile, especially if you have soft boobs that can cooperate better with a variety of cup shapes. But you'll see!

Awesome, thanks! You're very helpful :-) I don't have boobs of steel for sure, so maybe I'll get along well with the Liliana. Hope so, it's such a pretty bra.

helpfulThis strangely looks like what decos look like on me, or at least what they use to.
I havent tried one on in quite some time. Also, putting shoulders forward in a molded cup usually causes gaping, that is normal.Because I can't really tell with pictures of molded cups exact fit problems, I will tell you what was going on with me, and maybe that will help you.
At the time I was wearing decos, I thought I was FOB, (I am FOT) and didn't realize I have both short root height and good amount center fullness.
1.The cups started to fold over on the bottom. This was because I needed more immediate projection, my boobs were pulling the bra down a little because the very bottom was too shallow. This looks like this may be happening with you
2. The tops of the cups would gape a little, this is because I have short root height, there was literally no boob to fill top of cup. Again, this may be your problem, actually i am pretty sure that is your problem.
3. My boobs would try to escape in the center I thought this was because its a plunge, but since then i have been able to wear certain plunges without that happening- it was because of center fullness. It sorta looks like this for you, but i am not sure3or4 part molded cups fit way better for me. Freya half cups seem to be doing pretty well, they might be an option for you.
you might want to look for bras that are good for short root, close-set breasts. I wish I had another suggestion for you.
Edit-Also- just because you need more immediate projection, doesnt necessarily mean you need projected bras. I can wear shallow bras as long as they have immediate projection.

Thanks! My boobs don't escape this plunge as bad as they do my Alice plunge, but I agree I am close set, have center fullness, and have a short root. I think I'm more even fullness top to bottom than FOB like I thought. The wires sit better in my IMF than, say, my Neve - which my boobs push down, it's horribly too shallow. So far the Hatty is my best fitting bra, I don't have to constantly re-adjust, but I have a Freya half cup coming later this week so I'll report back lol. I could not go any narrower with the wires so I think the original Deco will be too narrow, even if it offers better projection. I fear I'll run into some kind of issue in almost every bra due to my need for wide wires :-S

I totally understand the wide wire problem, we have similiar boob issues except i am not close-set. I was going to suggest maybe a charlotte because of that, but i seen you already tried. i hope that freya works for you. Mine is too narrow during some times of the month but for the rest of the month i like it.
-
I had high hopes for my Charlotte, but no. Just, no. Wires too narrow & straps too wide set simultaneously... not sure how that happens but ack! Armpit slaughter! I hope it finds a good home, it's just taking up closet space.
I'm close set (I think) but gores don't seem to bother me unless they are too tall. I had & sold a Fantasie smoothing strapless 30F where the gore was soooo painful. Plus it was so big, I don't know about Fantasie and their sizing. Their new Mae bra is beautiful and I'd love to try it but the band needs to be a snug 30 since they don't make 28s, and I've stayed away from Fantasie ever since that strapless disaster, and would have no idea what my Fantasie size is. Since it's still $85 and the gore appears equally as tall in the strapless version, I'm gonna wait on that one lol.
-
I have to correct my previous statement, I do not own a freya half cup, i have a curvy kate carmen, which i have been told is similiar to freya half cup. I have never worn a fantasie, so i couldnt tell you how there sizing is but the good thing about bratabase is that you can click on that bra and see reviews.
-
Gonna have to look at the curvy kate carmen. I got my Freya Instinct padded half cup in today. I'm pretty sure it's a Pasty half cup clone, only in possibly the ugliest pink & purple geometric pattern I've ever seen in my life.
That said, it's the closest to a perfect fit I've found yet. The wires are just wide enough at 5.5, haven't measured depth or done a review or anything yet. Gonna wear it all day first, because the gore is just tall and wide enough I'm afraid it's gonna get painful. I am SO close to figuring this out.
-
I am not sure that the carmen would be good for you, its gore Might be too high. Thats great that the freya is looking like it will work, fingers crossed.

It really is too bad Charlotte didn't work for you, lcl0706; I have three and though I think tissue migration is now making the cups too small, I do like them a lot! But I don't have the wide strap issue you do—that has yet to be a major issue for me. Alas!

helpfulI think the cup is too big on you by a size or two, because it's large in all directions -- you have extra cup at the side, bottom, and front (gaping).

Hmm, I don't have extra cup at the side, there's breast tissue in there for sure. The front, yes. I figured that was just because it's so molded. Ahh I don't know anymore!
Edit - if I tighten the band one more hook and tighten the straps more, the gapping is reduced somewhat. But then this dang stretchy band tries to ride up my back.
-
Ok, so I have a dumb question then. If I hold a bra up to my boob like I did the Juna & line it up with my outside root, should the curve of the wire follow the curve of my boob & also line up with my inner root? Or does part of the fit of the wires come from them "stretching" a bit after I put the bra on & do up the band a bit? I seriously paid no attention to the wires before all this so I have no clue!
Edit - it gaps a bit no matter what position I'm in, but not enough to go down a size for sure. So I'm trying to ignore it lol
