Issue resolved
Cups are too far apart/too shallow in the center.
Original problem
Thoughts on this fit? I feel like my boobs are being pushed apart a bit at the base when I wear it, and I feel like I have a little space at the bottom of the cup, but I'm not sure.

helpfulThis is precisely the same issue I always had when I was in your size range and IMO it is down to the bra not offering enough space for the full shape of your boobs at the center (near cleavage). Have you ever tried that gore alteration that opens up the cups near the gore more?

It was on sayitifyoumeanit 's blog I think? If you go to her profile you should be able to find the link to her blog and search. She also has some posts explaining more about this issue. It's still kinda the bane of my life--my boobs have shrunk and I am now just "very projected" as opposed to "insanely projected" so all the deepest cup styles no longer fit, but in the other ones I still get cutting in at the center due to my fullness there. Yeah, I wrote about it a bit. I don't recall if it was a blog post of its own. I think it was part of my post on center heaviness. In my new size range, cups are all so tall that I don't need to do it constantly like I used to,(why bra companies think all HH boobs are 10 ft tall, I have no idea. Lol.) but I just narrowed the center of my new Lulu tout for this reason.
Center heavy boobs tend to sit closer together than most bra cups, so by adding a seam between the cups, you're basically moving the cups closer to where your boobs are. It will make the band slightly shorter, and the cups act slightly narrower. Most center heavy ladies have very little breast tissue at the arms, so the latter is rarely an issue, but if you wear your bands firm, the alteration might mean you need an extender, depending on how much you need to narrow.

wendybien , it is definitely frustrating. X( It is part of the reason why I am getting so sick of my boobs and just want a reduction! Finding a bra that fits is turning out to be more aggravating than awesome. sayitifyoumeanit , I guess I am a little confused. Do you mean that narrowing the gore in turn provides more projection at the center of the cups?
-
Yes, sort of. The problem with center heavy boobs is often that they need more cup in the middle, less on the sides. So by sewing a seam between the cups (either straight, or following the curve of the cups, depending on how much of an adjustment you need for a particular bra), you're effectively moving the cups to where your boobs are.
If you've ever scooped and swooped into a bra, then had to push your boobs back outward into the cups, only to have them drift out in the middle again as the day wears on, you've noticed this phenomenon. When this happens, it's because the cups are not sitting where the majority of your breast tissue is. you can't move your breast root out, but you can move your bra cups in. It's only about 5 minutes of sewing, so can make a lot of bras more weareable. Of course, choosing bras with more room in the middle is a better option, but there are tragically few of these, and almost all of them are polish (since they like the cakes on a plate cleavage, there are some basic construction differences to create that effect that tend to be friendly to center heavy boobs.) -
I am definitely going to give this a shot!!!!! Could you check out my fit request of the Lily and see if that is closer to what kind of fit I am looking for? If so, then I'll take the measurement of the cup distance apart and will aim to alter my other bras to be the same width.

helpfulThis bra's cups are just set too far apart for you. You have stated that your boobs are close together so you gotta find a bra whose cups are set close together and with a very narrow gore.

Blah, this seems to be so hard to fix! So many of my bras end up doing this. Can you think of any that you might recommend?

You can always alter the gore to make it more narrow. I do this with most of my bras and it is pretty easy to do. Here is a 'tutorial': http://boobiusmaximus.livejournal.com/1474.html.
Bratabase apparently also has a page on alterations, who knew! http://www.bratabase.com/knowledge/bra-alterations/
You could also take a look at Claudette bras as they tend to have narrower gores.

have you tried any of the unpadded Cleo offerings? I am even/FOT and find Erin (Lily) and Minnie are both good for allowing centre fullness and are not wide gored

Hmm, maybe I will try one of these alterations on a test bra sometime. It seems like the width issue occurs especially near the base of my boobs... Maybe altering the lower half of the gore will kind of swing the cups into more of a straight line... ? I will definitely check out Claudette. I did have a Dessous once but it was too small in the cups on the top edge (it cut into my boobs). I'll try playing around with it more! And I LOVE Cleo Lily. It is the only bra I have the right fit with!

I feel like I remember hearing about one but I never tried it! Do you have any details? Maybe I will play around with altering one of my older bras.
