Bra fitting help » gapping at the top of cup with comfortable posture
Freya » Patsy Padded Half Cup Bra (1223) » 32DD 32:5
Issue resolved
User melifish suggested I try 32D--that has fixed my fit issues not only with this bra but with all the bras I have been trying.
Original problem
When I sit up straight with my shoulders back and chest forward, it sits fine on my breasts. However, when I sit in my normal posture, or slump even a little, the cup bows out and I'm left with a huge gap in the top of the cup. Also, the wires are still too short for the channel (though that seems to be a chronic Freya issue rather than an issue with this particular bra).
Previous sizes tried: 30E (http://bra.pe/TVZ/)

helpfulIf your posture's not going to change, try a 32D.

helpfulI'd try 30F, this gaping happened because the band is too big now and the straps are too far away right near your breast muscle, which is moving a cup away from your body.
Anyway, it's better to sit up straight all the time.Updated on June 17, 2015 Flag this

I'm worried if I go to 30F the cup will be too big. Would that be the case, do you think?
-
melifish, the wider the band, the wider the wires (because wider wires are for wider people). I got this from the photos of ra-ienne_of_tarth in the same bra, sized 30E, where there was no gaping, but the underwires digged in because they were lying on the breast tissue (which means they were too narrow). freya runs loose in the band so in this model 30 band is alright, it just feels tight because the cup is too small.
I always have gaping when the band is too big. -
Wires do not get wider in sister-sizes, with the exception of Empreinte and maybe Ewa Michalak, where the wires are graded and are thus the correct width for every size. Freya, however, doesn't grade their wires. If you put a 30E up against a 32DD, the wires are exactly the same. However, when worn, the wires will be wider in the SMALLER band size, because the tightness will pull the wires to the side.
Her 30E wires dug in not because they were sitting on breast tissue but because the band was too tight, pushing the wires into her ribs.
Freya may run loose in general, but clearly this particular bra cannot be too loose on her if its stretched measurement is smaller than her underbust.
You may have gaping when the band is too big, but that doesn't mean that's the only reason for gaping.
30F will be too big in the cup and still pretty tight in the band. The straps, which on this bra are slightly scratchy, will dig into the fronts of her armpits. It will be uncomfortable and unflattering.
32D might not work, because the wires might get too narrow or the cup may be a hair too small. However if she likes this bra, that's the only size left to try.

Wires do get wider! people with 28 and 36 bands can't have same wires, it's against anatomy. 36B have much wider wires than 28E.
In 30 and 32 it can be not be a big difference though (according to bra-ienne_of_tarth, this bra is even more narrow). Something is wrong with the measurements, because it would be impossible to put it on at all, if theu were true.
I'm not a specialist in freya because their 30 band seemed like 34 in other brands to me. so i gave up Freya long time ago.
30E was sitting exactly on the breast tissue on the photos. So 30F is as much worth trying as 32D. It's never a bad idea to try a bigger cup. -
uh, it may be "against anatomy," but it is how most bras are made.

It is well seen on the photos in your link, that underwires are not the same!
-
they are EXTREMELY similar considering these bras range from 28 to 38! Also the author is asked about this and she confirms that wire width does not change very much.
I'm a fitter, I've worked with a lot of bodies and a lot of bras, and I've compared a lot of bras. I guess we just disagree.

The size 32D fits perfectly, and actually, melifish, your suggestion has worked for nearly all the fit issues I've had with the other bras I've been trying. Thank you so much!

you're welcome, i'm so glad it worked out!
the stretched band measures 30 and her comfortable underbust is 32.3. how do you get that the band could possibly be too big for her?
The straps will feel even wider in 30F than in this size. going down in the cup, however, will bring the straps in a bit.
