Bra fitting help » Gaping at the gore on smaller breast, painful wires on larger breast
Comexim » Irish Coffee Plunge Bra (335) » 65HH 30:9
Issue resolved
I should have gotten a wider gore instead of a higher one. The cups are too close together for my wide set, splayed breasts. The cups may also be too large at certain times of the day (nursing).
Original problem
Alterations: Raised gore, straps moved in, reduced cups
I'm not exactly sure what's going on with this one. It looks and feels okay when I first put it on, but after some wear, it starts to hurt my left (larger) side. I think it starts to slide down and out of my IMF, but it doesn't look like it in these pictures, and it's kind of hard to tell.
Immediately after swooping and scooping, it seems too small, but after only a few minutes my breasts aren't filling the space at the gore anymore.
Also, the band just doesn't feel secure. I don't know if I'd say it's too loose, but I feel like the bra is moving around on me.
I think Comexim plunges just aren't a good match for me? Or would another size be worth trying?

helpfulGoing purely by the numbers it looks like the cups are too big--you have 9" of depth for just 8.3" of boob (lying down perimeter being the closest thing to optimal cup depth guesstimate). A too-large cup can also make the band feel less secure despite correct band length.

wendybien Your mention of the lying parameter being "closest thing to optimal cup depth" is helpful!! I, too, would love to understand why :-)
-
Well, unless the breast is too ample to be balanced on top of the ribcage, when you're lying down that is as close as you can get to knowing what your breast perimeter is when your tissue is supported in a bra.
-
@foodforest It also takes gravity out of the equation and your breasts lie where they would be in a supportive bra.
-
If that's the reason, I can see why it wouldn't be accurate for me. While my breasts aren't "too ample" to balance on my ribcage, they don't just sit nicely in place on top. They're so soft and splayed that half the tissue just falls into my armpits. Wow, the more I learn about my breasts, the more I dislike them. :/
But yeah, I've overestimated my size before, but searching for a cup depth of 8.3 was giving me mostly 30DDs and 30Es, which is... not right. I have old bras in that range that used to fit, and they definitely don't anymore.
-
Well my boobs have pretty much achieved a liquid state by now but even so, if I angle my torso juuuust so when lying down, I can still get one boob to "puddle" squarely on top of my body instead of running down the side into an armpit :-D I'm sure you can get yours to cooperate as well, so maybe remeasure and update? Having the numbers up to date really contributes to understanding how far or close you are from a fit in a specific cup volume when the appearance of the boob in the cup is doing weird things.
I also see you have nursing clips on the bra here... so if you are, or have recently nursed a baby, or are pregnant, that will definitely lead to overnight changes in volume. (Such fun!) Perhaps you measured 8.3" on a sudden-shrinkage day, and are usually closer to 9"?
-
Yeah, currently nursing, so my volume does change throughout the day. These measurements were taken immediately after nursing because I wanted the smallest possible numbers to ensure that there would be no chance of getting too-large recommendations/size estimates, which seems to happen to me often for some reason.
I remeasured this morning after 9 hours of not nursing, and this is what I got. http://www.bratabase.com/profile/measurements/24594/ Immediately after nursing (but not fully emptied) and trying to prevent the armpit-puddling, I'm getting about 9.0.

Almost forgot, I have no idea if this is relevant or not, but I noticed that when I moved the straps to where they're supposed to be sitting on my shoulders (straight vertically, but almost falling off my shoulders) some of the wire pain went away. I wonder if angling the strap in on the left side is making the wire tighter somehow. Thanks for your help so far btw.

helpfulIt think that this may be an issue of your boobs being more separate than the cups want them to be.
After you scoop you force your boobs into the bra's requested position but after a while they go back to their own place which causes the empty space in the center.
This may be in line with what wendybien suggests about cup depth. The thing is that the cup has extra depth at the center of the cup that you don't need. If you could press the extra fabric flush on the center (as if the bra had a wider gore) then it may encase your boobs better and that would simulate as if the cups had less depth, only so slightly.
So, yes these plunges may have cups too close together, which are usually the recommended bra cut for very close set boobs.

I think this is exactly it. If the gore was wider, it would almost be perfect, or at least wearable. I could live with a little gaping as long as the bra wasn't painful.
I wonder if Comexim would made a wider gore. I think I'm done with plunges in general anyway though. Have yet to find one that works well with my short roots.

I don't know; my breasts are definitely reaching the ends of the cups and are filling them fine except for that space at the gore, so I don't think taking away over half an inch of depth would be better. What makes you say the lying perimeter is the most accurate?
