Bra fitting help » Cups felt tight but there's empty fabric at the bottom
Panache » Andorra Full Cup Bra (5675) » 36G 36:9
Issue resolved
Thanks to the suggestions I'm going try some other styles with shorter cups and more lower projection.
Original problem
I first tried the Andorra in a 36F and then an FF, but they felt too tight. So I sized up to the 36G and that's pretty comfortable. I was happy with it until I noticed in the mirror that there's a lot of empty wrinkled fabric at the bottom of the cup! That really surprised me because I'm FOB and usually if a cup is too big I'll have gapping at the top.
Does this mean that I have short roots? I'm still trying to figure out exactly how to describe my own shape. Is it correct to say that these cups have too much immediate projection for me?
Finally, what other bras should I try? I like the Andorra except for this shape mismatch. What might be a better match for my shape?

helpfulI guess it's a shape mismatch in many ways. Yes, I'd speculate cups are technically too big. But the reason why you don't get your usuall gapping on top from too big cups is because the vertical sides of underwires go up too much for your breast shape - sort of this bra offers you "U", but you need more like "u", if it makes any sense. And the first photo shows that when such wrong underwires meet your upper stomach they conspire with the wrong cups - resting on stomach underwires sit more diagonally than they should and thus appear "shorter" vertically and closer to your shape needs, and cups fold into IMF and thus hide the unecessary excess of volume. As a result, birds eye view gives you no gapping on top.
And I believe these cups does NOT have too much immediate projection. On the contrary, as for me they have too little projection at the bottom and that's one of the reasons why this bra does not fit you properly.
So I would look for smaller sized but more projected cups (and demi, probably?). Polish brands maybe.

You've really given me something to think about. I have so much to learn! Do you think a full-band style would be better for me than the bandless ones, because of the upper stomach "conspiracy"? :)

The only reason you have the stomach issue is because the bra fits so badly. If you can find a bra where the wires stay where they belong, in your inframammary fold, it wont be an issue. Or at least not as much. My big belly often makes any lace at the bottom of the cup fold under and get ground in to my flesh - oww! i'm just avoiding lace. Cuz belly is gonna be there, apparently, no matter how I feel about it!
I have written off trying any long-lines tho lol

helpfulIt's too shallow for you at the underwires. Your boobs are pushing the wires down looking for more space for all your projection. By the numbers it doesn't look too big - the cup depth is close to your vertical perimeter. I would suggest Panache Jasmine & try it in both 36FF & 36G.

Thank you for the specific suggestion! I'll order the Jasmine to try, right away.

helpfulI don't have an opinion about the depth at the base of the cup, but I just wanted to add that I get this problem in bras with too-tall wires for me, even when they have HUGE depth at the base. I get this with some too-large Empreintes, which are known for insane projection and depth. So, in my opinion, the Andorra may be too shallow at the base or it may not... this can happen even if it has enough depth.
Anyway, I do agree with everyone else you probably aren't compatible with this bra design. I'd look at other bras with similar depth but cups that aren't nearly so tall. You can often judge the cup height in relation to depth by looking at Wire Length in the bra measurements and comparing it to the cup depth. As you can see, this bra has wires that are 1" greater than its cup depth, which is actually quite a lot and indicates either a very wide or a very tall cup--and since this is not SUPER wide, we can therefore conclude that it's quite tall. I'm optimistic that you can find bras with similar width and depth but much shorter wires. They do not have to be half cups, IMO. When you search by measurements, be sure to enter a wire length measurement that is the same or less than the wires on a bra that is comfortable for you height-wise.

Now that you mention it, the wires do seem too tall. I think I have short roots. Thanks!

You're welcome! Good luck finding something that works in your size range.

helpfulI think this is purely about the fact the bra is not projected enough in the lower cup for FOB boobs, it's a moderately projected even shaped bra. I think the wire width looks fine. Panache Envy has a rounder lower cup even than Jasmine, and the classic Cleo Lucy is FOB.

helpfulHelp help, there's a Claudette Encore sale that's tempting me but I need to be careful because of no returns allowed. Would the Claudette Cool Cotton Underwire Bra (CD8008) , or the Claudette Paramour Underwire Bra (101015008) , or maybe the Claudette Dessous Mesh Underwire Bra (CD2000) be worth a try for my shape? Thanks so much for the help!

Dessous would be the best of those 3 to try for your shape. The wires are quite narrow and it allows for the most projection of those 3.

I ordered a Dessous and a Cool Cotton and will review them when they arrive.

You were right lcl0706! They just came today and the Dessous is the best fit. I'll review it separately soon. Thanks for the suggestion.

Oh, is this the real 'orange in a glass' look then? that her boobs cant go down low enough because the wires are too narrow? Should she try something wider like a curvy kate? But i think she's also got short roots - are there any wide half cups?
