Bra fitting help » Another Cleo lace problem, lace surgery, would you attempt it?

Issue resolved
I decided not to attempt any lace surgery, and send both the 28D and 28DD back. I don't have time for sewing projects right now and there are other bras I want to try.
Original problem
I picked up this bra in 28D and 28DD, thinking after my amazing success with Cleo Minnie Balconnet Bra (7431) that this one would work too.
My first impression was that the DD bra fit me a little better, as there was no quadboob on that one, just some looseness in the cups. However, upon a second try-on, I think this D version is actually closer to fitting.
This bra is just so much more closed than the Minnie at the very top of the cups! Other than that, its measurements are nearly identical.
I feel like if I put a little slice or nick in the lace at the top, the top of the bra would open up and the quadboobing would go away and the lace would fit just fine without so much wrinkling. I don't know what I would do from there, maybe add black ribbon to the inside of the cup where I had sliced? Anyone done surgery like this on a bra and lived to tell about it? Is it possible that I am delusional (high on bra fumes, lol) and this would not solve any problems?
I know a lot of people have had problems with the lace on these bras.
My sewing experience consists of some basic mending and one slapped-together Halloween costume. I can sort of get by but I don't have the experience to envision what this alteration might do to this bra.
Any other comments about the fit and recommendations for unpadded bras are certainly welcome.

helpfulDo you have pics of the DD? This one looks wayyy to small, honestly, at least from these pics. Like on your right boob, it looks like it's cutting it in half. It's possible it's not too small, but if that's the case it's a total shape mismatch. I see the wrinkling in the lace, and I see your upper fullness trying to escape over the top of the lace.

Yeah, you got some empty space in that one, the wires are too wide and the lace is kinda empty. But it looks better in pictures because your boobs aren't trying to escape it. I think this bra is a shape mismatch - it's asking for more projection than you have, more fullness on bottom than on top, and wider roots. Just my opinion, I'm sure others will chime in!

I agree that the Zia is a shape mismatch for you, but if you decide to do some bra surgury, I suggest that you do it on the 28D. The 28DD looks like there's too much gapping. The 28D looks like it's cutting in but fits everywhere else, so fixing the lace section should alleviate you of your fit issues. Once you cut into the lace your breasts should settle into the cups better.

helpfulI wouldn't suggest cutting a slit in the lace. If anything, you could try removing the dark black trim completely with a seam ripper, but really I would just get a different Marcie clone, or try out Lucy or Lily which have more closed tops (Lucy has a wide gore, FYI)

Ooooh, thanks. Lucy is on my to-try list! I tried a Lily once, but I think the one I got was irregular or defective, the wires flared out at the sides. I might have to try it again.

The bra surgery I have done takes a bra that fits except for the lace, and closes the lace at the gore. But the 28DD seems wide for you.

I think 30C/D or 28DD will give you best shape

Yes, I have pics of the DD. I should have linked. 28DD - Cleo » Zia Balconnet (6851)
