Bra fitting help » need to know what cup size to try
Curvy Kate » Ritzy Padded Balcony Bra (SG2101) » 38GG 38:10
This bra feels a comfortable fit, but the band is definitely too big. I need to go down to a 34 back. What cup size should I compensate with please?
Edited to add: I've actually just brought a new one of these last week, in a 38J as I've put on a bit of weight so wasn't sure on a 36 or 38. The band is too tight and the cup too big. Very odd as usually a 36 band is right for me, occasionally a 38. I think the previous one may have had a dud band to be loose, as others said the band on this bra usually comes up tight, which it has on my new one. Do you I think I should try a 38H next or a 40H?

helpfulI really wouldn't recommend this particular bra to most people in your size range... it's unbelievably wide and shallow. Only a very small number of people in your size range will have a naturally shallow breast shape and looking at this photo I can confidently state you're not one of them! Try something with decent projection like a Panache, Elomi or Bravissimo.

helpfulHonestly if your breast perimeters range from 13.5 to 15 - well, thats supposed to be somewhere close to the cup depth ,but this cup depth is 12.5, and a 36J is only a depth of 13.9 . . even that might be too small? Unless you've lost weight and not redone your measurements
I'm surprised how far the band stretched for you - all the other measurements seem closer to actual sizing, but yours stretched so far!

I have soft boobs and wobble a lot in some bras - in fact, my favorite bra is my Floris, but i bounce more in that than in some others. But all my others have lace that folds under the wires and hurt, or they are slightly too small and I quad, or slightly too shallow so the wires move down and hurt . . . its so hard!

helpfulIf this is a 38GG, then the sister sizes go as follow: 36H, 34HH

be aware that when you go down band size even if you buy the sistersize, the cups often times are narrower in the smaller band even if the volume is the same. So if you like how these cups fit, double check the cups in the bra your going into. Also a 34 is a big jump from a 38

Ya I am surprised by the band stretch but since I am 39 I may try this bra style. 34 is a big jump down. What hooks are you on?

helpfulTry shortening the bra band (many bra blogs have tutorials on how to do this with the ability to take it out without stitches appearing to have ever been there). (Or try on with a hardware clamp- I do this to find out how much I need to shorten the band) After this, try swoop and scoop method to find out if the cups fit you.

Does the cup fit? Try wearing it all day long with a bra band extender for a day or two. This usually stretches out the band some. Did you look at the bratabase measurements for the sizes you've tried and the sizes you have measured? I have noticed my curvy kate bras with black tags fit better and have been better quality than the ones ive recently been getting with the pink and white tags. I'm starting to think they might be knock offs

No I haven't lost weight since as only some the measurements over a week ago. I do tend to change in size very regular though. Yes the Band seems really stretchy on this. It felt okay when I first put it on but it is quite loose. I do prefer a firmer band. I hadn't thought of the connection of cup depth and perimeter actually, although I have soft boobs so if anything is too big I'd have too much wobble x
