Bra fitting help » Angled Wires?
Parfait By Affinitas » Madeline Wire Bra (4502) » 30D 30:4
Issue resolved
The band is too tight which causes the wires to distort and bend inwards at the top and outwards at the bottom. I do wonder if my ribcage shape is aggravating this affect. I may try the next band size up 32C.
Edit: annnd they only go down to 32D.... :/
Original problem
Fit check from [bratabase](http://bra.pe/TVU/):
30D Madeline, Parfait by Affinitas.
The wires hurt a lot and are angled into my body. I can easily poke a finger under the center of each cup but the ends of the wires seem like they are trying to fuse with my ribs. I am not sure if this is just something that some bras do or if I am somehow wearing it wrong(?). Can I fix this problem?-- to my limited knowledge it seems like it fits ....other than the pain. The wires are definitely not on breast tissue and the photo where my finger is under the wire, does not involve me moving the bra in any way. The bra band is possibly a little tight, though only by a half inch or so. When I hold up the cup too my chest the cups seem huge, but once the bra is on the cups seem pretty normal, if slightly big.

helpfulI'd say it's shape mismatch. It seems like this particular bra is meant for someone with smaller ribcage but bigger and more projected boobs. In your case, you are able to fasten it because lack of band length is conpensated by flexebility of wires and digging into your body, hence causing pain. Bratabase describes 'stretched band' as the maximum length you can pull before deform or stretch the underwires. And with this bra it's an inch smaller than you comfortable ribcage and way smaller than you loose one, so in order to comfortably accomodate you the underwise have to be pulled beyond their normal shape, which with no surprise can lead to all type of weirdiness and discomfort. You can try to bend/unbend the underwires to suit you better, but that will also alter the shape of the cup - if you unbend them, cups will become shallower and upper part can dig into your upper breast tissue; if you bend them more, then cups will risk to be too deep and too narrow for your shape and could poke you on the sides. So with this particular model and size I'd speculate it's either extender for you or time to find new owner for the bra.

helpfulYou are definitely getting wire torque from the band stretching the wires either too far open or out of plane too far. I think it is digging in at the top of the gore and cups because of this. If you hold the gore in one hand and stretch the outer edge of the wire outward and back a little like it's wrapping around you, you will feel how it makes the wires dig in at the tops and the edge of the cup tighten. You can also fasten the bra around your legs and then use your legs to stretch it to whatever length it is stretching to around your ribs while observing how the wires and cups behave to get an idea of what is going on.
You and I have similar sized rib cage sizes and I am struggling with the same problem with a 65G - Prima Donna » Couture Underwired Bra (0162581)
Solutions: Try a larger band, an extender, or possibly a more "J" shaped wire like the Freya Gem Balcony Bra (1361)
I can tell you that the 30F - Freya » Gem Balcony Bra (1361) starts to distort at 27", causing it to dig in in exactly the same way on me.Updated on May 27, 2015 Flag this

helpfulIt doesn't look too bad, if the wires poke you may need wider wires or need to bend the wires outward. I've never heard of angled wires, but it's an interesting idea. Clearly not for you in this bra though. That shape looks *almost* right. It looks slightly too projected but also cuts on on the top so you might just have a slight shape mismatch. It's common to have shallow tissue on top which makes it hard to see, but makes bras cut in on top while not fitting perfectly in the middle.

helpfulI agree there is a bit of a shape mismatch but I think the pain is due to the tight band. Do you want to keep it? If so, try an extender to see if that helps.
