Bra fitting help » Orange-in-a-glass—not enough projection, shape mismatch?
Freya » Marvel Side Panel Bra (1501) » 28F 28:7
Issue resolved
I'll be sending this one back and trying in other sizes, and probably the 30 band (this is indeed very firm for a Freya!).
Original problem
This is a very comfortable bra, but once again I've got serious orange-in-a-glass going on (see the arched back shot). It's about a finger-width and a half—maybe two!—as I tried to show in another shot.
Shape mismatch? It's a Freya so heading up to a 30FF makes me nervous, and if it is a shape problem, there's no sense in doing so anyhow. Not enough projection?

helpfulTechnically, orange in a glass refers to when the wires are too narrow. What looks to be the case here is that the bra is just shallow in the wrong places, but I think it also is too large for you.
If you are looking for an unpadded bra that gives a rounded shape, maybe you would like Cleo Marcie in 30DD or 30E.

helpfulyeah, it's not OIAG, it's the wrong size....not everything in brafitting is about lack of projection no matter what the ladies at ABTF will have you think.
When you have that space at the bottom, it's your responsibility -- the second part of putting your bra on, after scooping -- to hike the cup/wire up and get rid of that space. When you do, you'll see a lot more gapping at the top; the cup is about a size too big.
Tight bands can also make the cup too shallow; that may or may not be going on, I can't tell, although the band doesn't look particularly tight on you otherwise. You don't really need a tight band at your size and shape, and it's easy for an overly tight band to detract from the fit of a bra. So if you really like the Marvel, I'd try it in 28E (remember in the correct cup size it will feel tighter) and 30DD.
That said, I'd only bother if you love the design or it's very comfy -- in which case, absolutely, go for it. Otherwise, I don't really think it's doing you any favors.

I'll try it again and do a better job of anchoring the wire. The band feels snugger than most Freyas, but I really loathe loose bands because they slide all around and drive me bonkers! I have scoliosis (obviously!) and think that affects the fit of the band a bit more.
I'll have to try the other sizes. I have several Freya 30DDs and have serious issues with my tissue staying in the cups, especially as the day goes on—the tissue begins to slide beyond the wire under my armpit to the point it is seriously obnoxious and I absolutely have to make an adjustment. They're all molded cup Freyas, though, which is perhaps part of the problem?
-
Yeah, molded is different, and trickier, but also, it is normal to have to adjust a couple times during the day, even in a perfectly fitting bra.
-
That's very true. Alas, at this point I'm adjusting on a very regular basis—often several times an hour, even when simply sitting and sewing or reading! That said, I'll keep that in mind; a couple of times a day will not be a bad thing. An improvement is more like it! ;)

helpfulAgreeing with teremaailma , this is not orange-in-a-glass. OiG refers to too-narrow wires and perhaps a shape that is too closed on top. The Marvel has neither of these issues on you.
Before trying anything else, I would try that bra with an extender. The Marvel runs very tight for a Freya, almost as tight as unpadded Cleos, and according to your measurements I'm highly suspecting that a 28 band is tighter than necessary.
A too-tight band will also put strain on the wires and distort them, making them wider than needed (and the Marvel already is a bra with VERY wide wires).
Try 28F extended by a few hooks with a non-stretchy extender or try size 30DD and 30E.Updated on June 8, 2015 Flag this
Looks like not enough projection to me. Also going to a 30FF would be up two cup sizes.
