Issue resolved
Marcie probably isn't projected enough for me. Another user confirmed that suspicion for me.
Original problem
I'm close set, so I knew the gore height would be an issue. It always is with balconettes. But the lace on this one actually lays flat, except when I move. As soon as I move, it gets almost perfectly matched triangle-shaped gapes about an inch from the gore on both sides. Lace lays nicely again as soon as my arms return to a neutral position.
I wasn't sure if the triangle-shaped gape when moving was normal and expected (never wore unlined bras until I started looking for ABTF), or if it was a shape incompatibility, or just an effect of a too-high gore.
The other odd issue (which I couldn't seem to get a picture of) is that I get odd quad-boobing INSIDE the cups. The quadding happens where the T-seams are, kinda where the bottom meets the top.
I'm guessing that the in-cup quadding is due to being a touch too projected, or maybe just squishy boobs?

helpfulOn the topic of the gore digging in, I am close set also and on high gores like the Cleo balconettes I always bend the center wires outward. It's a little scary at first, but you can always bend them back if you bend it too much. I usually take one wire at a time and push it outward, if it won't bend that way you can set the bra on the edge of a desk or a table so about half the gore is sticking off, hold the back of it down to the table, and push the wires down til they bend. I do this with almost all my bras and it actually has made the tops of the cups lie flatter on me and it's stopped the gores from digging into my chest. Just thought I'd share cuz it's been a lifesaver for me

helpfulThe lace not lying flat doesn't seem like a big issue to me. I get this with almost all my unlined bras. No bra will fit in any posture possible (eg, when slouching or moving one's arms) - if it fits decently in a neutral, standing position, it's safe to say "it fits".
However, this might be an issue with the straps being to close to your armpit. It's hard to tell from the pictures. If you find that to be the case, try sister sizing up in the band (or wearing the bra with a non-stretchy extender). This will make the band longer and take strain from the band. The cups will become a little narrower in front and the straps won't be so close to your armpit.
I don't know about the newer Marcie colors, but Marcie has always been a bra well-known for running particularly tight, so sister-sizing up in the band is actually quite common.
This would also improve the gore-digging-issue.In-cup-quadboob is also common in the Marcie. Since you are already in the correct cup size, sizing up in the cup won't help. People who experience this issue often find that gently stretching the horizontal seams when the bra is wet helps a lot.

bracrastination For the gore fit, BTB didn't have a "gore sits on breast tissue because I'm close-set" option. It does dig in, but not to my sternum. I think the band is fine, it feels comfortable. When in a bra of any sort, I have about a pencil-width of space between my breasts, and even that would have boob pressing in from both sides.
Like I said, I know balconettes don't work for me due to gore height. I wanted to sort out my shape with this bra.
I actually found that of the 3 diagnostic Cleo bras commonly recommended, this one has the most comfortable band.
Thank you for letting me know it's normal to have lace shift and gape when moving.

I didn't find this site to research until after I'd tried a bunch of bras on my new size/shaped breasts. Marcie was one of the first and I couldn't figure out what the heck was going ON in the cup! The bra fit fine but my breasts looked like multi-lobed blobs in the cups. Now I realize it was exactly what you described- in cup quad boob. I've tried on probably 50 bras since then. None of them have done this.

Sc2401 I said it was like I had camel-toe on my boob

Omg exactly!!! And inverted camel toe at that! Well depending on how you choose to arrange yourself ;-)

I think this links right to the best pic: http://www.bratabase.com/bra/dlpbn/#
No, its the 4th pic tho. I do think its too small on me tho

bonjourhi Okay, that's kind of what I thought might be the reason. Thanks!
I have the marcie in raspberry. that band ran big - my normal band size was on 2nd hook first wear and is on 3rd hook on 2nd wear after washing. and the in-cup quad on my bigger side is completely dreadful - visible under sweaters. However, I think it might actually be a size too small for me. But it is so comfy I still wear it occasionally. Glad to know I probably shouldnt try it in beige tho. Oh, and stretching made no difference for me. Or at least not enough to make it seem worth doing.
Loose lace on top, in my experience, often seems to vanish after a wash - which makes no sense, but its happened for me on 2 bras. I dont have that w the marcie tho. maybe because its too small and I'm coming up out of the top, idk, i'm very FOT. But I do think the marcie runs slightly big in the cup, which is why I mostly fit in a size down from my normal size.
