Bra fitting help » If I am wearing this with an extender, should I size up or down?

Issue resolved
Mostly fits... would like to try a 32FF.
Original problem
So I've been concerned about band issues with my bras lately, because I have flared front/side ribs, and my bands seem to squish me a bit so I get "rolls" above and below the band. I tried on an extender with this bra because without an extender I did get the squish on the sides and also had some quadding. With the extender, I feel like it could be a perfect fit. Does that mean that I should size up in the band and down in the cups? Confused here...
Also, why do I get slight wrinkling at the lower center portion of the cups, near the gore?

helpfulNo, don't go up in the cup. If you bought the same bra again you'd try 32FF first. Here, just wear the extender.
Cleos run tight so for future purchases you might want to try both 32FF and 30G as well as neighboring sizes.
It looks great with the extender. The top cup is a little too closed for you technically, but unless it bugs you it's not a deal. If you were to go up the wire would get wider and taller at the side to the point where it would bug you, and you might lose stability in the bra.

helpfulSo, cups and bands are proportional. Cups are not a set volume. So if you go up a band, a 32G is a bigger cup than a 30 G, because its the proportion of breast to band, sort of. So yes, a 32FF should be the same volume as a 30G. To check, you can go look at both sizes here and see what the cup volume is.

Yes, so if the 30G feels good in the cups but tight in the band, then theoretically 32FF would give you the same cup volume with a larger band. Those are referred to as "sister sizes", which means same cup volume but different band size.
You can use the Bratabase compare bras tool to easily compare measurements of 2 or more bras, as seen here: http://www.bratabase.com/compare/dl4kj/
Of course, they may not be *exact* due to variances in measuring techniques of each user, but it at least gives you a general idea of the similarities/differences. :) -
I guess then my issue is that if I get slight quad boob without the extender on (and the band feels a bit tight) then I want to go up in the band AND the cup?
-
Which means going up a band but keeping the same letter cup. because a 32G is a larger cup than a 30G.

Yes, just as dbmamaz said. 32FF is the sister size of 30G (same cup volume but different bands), but if you need 1 band + 1 cup then 32G would be your best bet.
Here's a page that explains sister sizing for better understanding: http://bustyresources.wikia.com/wiki/Sister_size
Edit: You could also try loosening your straps a bit. Sometimes the quadboob is just a result of straps being too tight. That's an easy fix. ;)

I disagree with BumbleBean - DON'T go up in the cup. You are getting quadboob because when you put on a too tight band, you are stretching the wires back. This makes your cup shallower and alters the fit. You have a very even-fullness, projected shape, and the shallower cup shape is giving you the quadboob. When you use an extender, the wires don't strech, so the cup is fully projected and not pulled under your arms.

helpfulI agree with melifish, especially because its the Cleo Meg. Meg is often a difficult fit, but it looks like you pull it off just fine. I don't think that the top is too closed - that's just Meg's design. She's there to support you from the bottom, the side, AND the top.
As far as your band - when you remove the extender, you are stretching the cup wires back, making the cup shallower (hence your quadboobing issue). The sister size (32FF) shouldn't vary much from the 30G in terms of wire width and cup height, and the larger band should not stretch the wires. If you were to go a cup though, melifish is right, the wider wires, greater projection and cup height would give you some fabric wrinkles at the top.
As to the wrinkling - that's a minor shape issue. If it doesn't bother you, then you're fine. But if it does bother you, there are things you can try. The Cleo Meg is very projected at the top, but shallow at the bottom. You may need a bra with more immediate projection. The other fit issue could be that you need a narrower gore. You can try sewing a dart in the gore to bring the wires closer together, but be warned - this will open up the top of the cup more.
So now it's about comfort. if you are comfortable with the extender, use it until the band loosens. I have two bras I wear this way because I love the wires exactly where they are and I don't want them to get pulled back (both Cleo's actually). The risk with sistersizing is that it might fit perfect at first, but then it can stretch out and you can loose support. In Cleo, you usually don't run in to the problem of the wires changing widths in sister sizes (something I've noticed in Freya). If you want to try narrowing the gore, go up a band size to compensate for the fabric you'll lose in the gore.
In conclusion, if you are comfortable, stick with the 30G+extender. If you want a little more breathing room, or want to alter it, go with the 32FF.Updated on September 20, 2015 Flag this
damn, wish someone other than me would comment on your fit requests, I hate feeling like the only voice. i'm no expert
