Issue resolved
Loosening the straps helped the chafing issue and allowed the back to sit lower down
Original problem
It seems to be causing bulging in the back despite being able to fit 2 fingers underneath the band easily. Chafing in right "armpit fat" area. If I shift, the gore doesn't fully tack. Bra has only been worn 2 days after a professional bra fitting

helpfulTry loosening the straps and then readjusting everything carefully (scoop and swoop and reposition band lower down) to see if that helps with comfort, band ride-up, outer cup issues, etc. Most people who were previously in poorly-fitted bras habitually overtighten straps, which forcibly pulls the band higher up on their back even when it is well-sized. Due to most people's backs being broader and fleshier higher up, this can cause a very binding/bulging fit whereas the band would have sat nicely if it were allowed to be lower down... Also for reasons I cannot fathom, MANY otherwise great professional fitters will energetically overtighten the straps for you as well in the shop! (Can you tell this is my pet peeve, haha!) Anyway all this to say--lengthen straps as far as possible, they should be just snug enough to stay up without assistance. They shouldn't be doing the heavy lifting so to speak. Then reassess how things look and feel, including the fit in the cups, at the wires, etc.
If you still have discomfort despite this, try a band extender to see if that helps. If it solves the problem, then you may need to wear the bra with an extender most of the time until the band stretches out a bit, or if it's still tight even with an extender you would then need a 40 band in this particular style (which tends to fit quite small in the band in some colors/sizes by the way).
That whole "can you fit 2 fingers underneath" thing, no matter how many people and fitting groups repeat it, is not a good indication of band sizing; many bras can be manually stretched much further than they will comfortably stretch on the body. The right band length is the size that stays put and anchors the bra comfortably without riding up, mangling you or distorting the cups due to excess tension.Updated on June 12, 2019 Flag this

helpfulMy only other comment is that there are some bras with wider bands that dont cause as much bulging - but the bulging is not a bra fit issue on its own. (hopefully Wendy's strap lengthening suggestions helps! she's usually right!)
