Bra fitting help » Wrinkling, gapping, spilling all at once?
Natori » Feathers Contour Plunge Bra (730023) » 30C 30:3
Issue resolved
will try out some other, less shallow bras
Original problem
I measure as a 28C/D so but wanted to try sistering up to a 30C since I think I'm super shallow. The band is quite loose though (outer hook is too loose, second hook and third hooks both feel okay), so when I swoop and scoop the little bit of tissue that I have, it doesn't really stay in place. When freshly swooped, I almost feel like I'm about to spill over (and my nipple is really close to popping over the top edge), but once things settle back down I get a bunch of gapping or wrinkling or both (depending on how much I tighten the straps and band). Kind of confused as to what's going on here and what I should try next!

helpfulYou do appear shallow, but for some reason this bra looks like a shape mismatch for you. It doesn't look like the wires are following your breast root either.

I think that if you were able to actually pull the bra up under your IMF, then it would gape at the top where it's already poking up a bit. Even if you bent the wires to fit your rib cage better, I still think the cup shape wouldn't work. What do you think? This is atually a bit of a surprising mismatch, because I would normally think that this one would probably be a good one for you. Have you tried bralettes, or are you looking specifically for a regular bra?

I agree with you :// I actually mostly wear bralettes or sports bras (bras in my old, pre-ABTF size were terribly uncomfortable, and I haven't really found one that works in my new size yet) but am hoping to add one or two regular bras to my collection. Currently I have a Boux Avenue balconette that fits decently, but am looking for something a bit more neutral colored/less lacy.

Have you checked out The Little Bra Company to see if there's anything there that looks like it may fit? I don't know a lot about how their bras work, but I think they carry your size.

haven't had luck with TLBC yet but I've only tried two of their models, so I'll definitely look into some of their other styles to see what might work!

helpfulFolks with small breasts are often told that they have shallow breasts, but it is not often true. Natori bras lean towards the wide and shallow which you are not - just a small volume of breast tissue. You have a narrow frame and torso, and if you provided a good side view, the wires are no doubt too wide for your breast tissue and sitting lower on your torso. When a bra fits like that on me it hurts, as my ribs have little padding to cushion the poor fit.
Given that you measure out smaller than a 28 inch band, a 30 inch band will be a challenge to fit you. Being of similar measurements to you (but able to wear a 28), I often focus on the cup width fitting, get close with the cup depth and use cookies to make up the space and create a custom fit with darts in the fabric. Padded cups do not work well for alterations. I then shorten the band to suit if I need to. Online bra shopping is not so easy as I live in Canada.
To get bands that fit, there are a few smaller bands for sale on this site. Perhaps there are some cup sizes that would fit. Also, Please State bras run quite tight. They start at 30 inch bands, but would no doubt fit you well. One can often find them reasonably priced on ebay and UK sites - maybe US sites too! I love Mimi Holliday and find that the older models fit wonderfully. I even have a couple that I have not had to alter!
They are a challenge to find though. Have a look at the pictures in the smaller sizes. Perhaps even an unlined Freya in 28D with some tucks to the lace would do you well. They have a variety of fun prints but also the basics. You'll have to post if you have luck with The Little Bra Company. I have been unsuccessful as well. The ones I have tried seem to run wide and shallow.
Good luck with your search!

oh that's so interesting, I'd never really even considered the possibility of not being shallow - thank you!! I'll take a look at the brands you recommended and the listings on here, and start thinking about getting ~crafty~ with alterations :) thanks so much!!

I think you're right, the wires aren't really following my root/sitting in my IMF (they kind of hover away from my rib cage, but I didn't want to bend them in case I sell or return this bra). Is this diagnostic of an actual fit issue, or is it just a small alteration that I could make to help the bra fit better?
