Issue resolved
I need a bra shape with a more narrow cup, a shorter cup, and more projection.
Original problem
While trying out bras in my "recommended" sizes, I keep running into the same problem - wrinkles/fabric pulling at the bottom of the cups and gaping or bagginess at the top of the cups. This bra seems to fit the best out of the many I have tried, but I still have those issues.
When looking at the front view of this bra, you can see the wrinkles in the lace at the top left of the left cup. Since this bra has a stretchy lace on the top that kind of 'forms' to my body a bit, the gape is not quite as obvious but if you look through my other bras on here the gaping can be a lot more obvious. In this particular bra, it just feels really baggy up top and not quite as filled out. If I gently tug the fabric up and over towards the strap, the bagginess is 'fixed'.
When looking at the angle view of this bra, you can see the wrinkles/pulling in the bottom of the cups.
Does this mean I need more projection? I made sure to 'scoop and swoop'.

helpfulI looked at some of your bras that you've tried, and it looks to me like you need projection next to the wire but bras that have less upper fabric. Your 42DDs look closer than your 42Es. You could even try 42Ds I think in some styles, as long as it doesn't leave you feeling too compressed. It also looks like you have short roots with full on bottom shape, which is probably why your bras are empty at the top. I have short roots but a slightly even fullness in a bra (full on bottom without a bra). I have found that seamed half cups work for me (2-3 vertical seams). Balconnettes sometimes work as well. Tall plunges and full cup bras don't work as well for me, so maybe you'll find the same thing? You also look like you have fairly narrow roots, since a lot of the underwires extend under your armpit area beyond your breast root. That could be why you have some of the wrinkling around your underwire. You could look at Ewa Michalak bras. Her bras are getting expensive, and shipping costs are going way up, but her bras are good for narrow roots. There are a couple retailers in the US too as far as I know (I'm in Cnd). There are quite a few other brands though that make 42D-E bras, so hopefully you'll find something with shorter cups and narrower wires....it may be a trial and error thing for a while until you find a brand/style that works for you. Good luck!

helpfulIf your shape is short, projected and narrow you might do well with Polish bras like Comexim or Ewa Michalak, or with Cleo Piper.

helpfulDefinitely want to second the idea that these cups are too tall/too full coverage for you and that you could use narrower underwires. Actually, when the wires fit well, I think it could push more of your tissue up from the provided support, so it could mostly be the wide underwires causing the greatest problem. For me personally, I end up replacing the cheap often very flexible ones bra companies use with Porcelynne vertical underwires, and that makes a huge difference. I know that such firm wires aren't for everyone though.

Thank you! I just tried an EM bra with a narrower cup and it made a big difference! I have wondered about just replacing the underwires on wide cups since that seems to be a big source of my 'issues'. Does that change the cup shape enough on its own or are there other modifications that you would make to narrow a cup?

I mean it does change the cup shape a lot, as well as how tight the band fits. Another modification I personally will often make is to narrow the gore/ overlap the underwires.

Thank you!! I agree that I am short/FOB/narrow. I just got an EM bra that is equivalent to 42DD and it is a much better fit. Just the difference in the wire width is huge to me, they don't end directly in my arm pit like all the others I've tried! :)
