Bra fitting help » Cup depth seems ok, but still wrinkling
Cleo » Meg Balconnet (6751) » 30D 30:4
Thanks to MeeM_13 for suggesting to try the Cleo Meg! So far I think it fits ok, at least much better than anything else I have tried. Will still wear it for a bit longer as I am not used to wired bras, but in the meantime I thought I would ask for any visible signs of bad fit. In particular, I am confused about the diagonal wrinkling at the bottom of the cup in the picture. Is that a fit issue? Or could that be from storage?
Otherwise, the band fits fine (more like a 28 as others pointed out in their reviews, so perfect for me ) and the wires are a good width, though a bit firm for my taste. I'm FOB and can't fill out the top of the cups, but consider that a minor flaw at this point in my journey given the rest of the bra fits somewhat. As a result though, the cups give my breasts a more relaxed shape under clothes instead of the typical super round Cleo shape.

helpfulI think it looks pretty good! I love the pattern of that bra
It looks like the wrinkling is just on one side correct? Is that breast smaller or bigger than the other side?
Sometimes I get wrinkling near the gore on my smaller side. But if it doesn’t bother you it could be a minor issue?Updated on July 7, 2021 Flag this

Hmm. I’m no expert, but it would help to know a bit more about your shape and how the bra feels for you. Do you have centre fullness or is there space between your breast when supported? Is there wrinkling at the top of the cups in addition to the wrinkles at the bottom? How are the width of the wires, do they follow your inframammory fold, go past it, or dig in? Is the bra comfortable?
Personally I am FOB and centre full. I usually get wrinkles at the top of the cup if it’s a shape mismatch. I’ve gotten wrinkles at the bottom and top of it’s too big and I’ve gotten that pointy shape when it’s too big as well. Typically if there isn’t enough projection at the bottom there will be a crease there. It may just be a shape mismatch for you? Are you sure you’re FOB? I have read that for FOT shapes sometimes there’s wrinkling at the bottom but the top will fit or cut in if the projection is at the wrong level....

One more question LOL, do you think you have tall average or short roots?
-
I think I have short roots, maybe leaning towards average. Definitely full on bottom, there is pretty much no tissue above my nipples. Very projected at the bottom, but not much apex projection. When the bottom of the cup has enough projection, I often don't fill out the apex. I'm still a bit confused about fullness. When wearing really narrow wires (Comexim) I tend to get a lot of middle cleavage, to the point where the gore looks too wide, which makes me think I'm center full. (I never have problems with gore width otherwise.) I have gotten the pointy shape before in the Panache Andorra in 28D, there the cup was definitely too small and too shallow. 28DD fits much better, but still does not feel right.
Regarding this particular bra: I get a little bit of wrinkling at the top of the cup as well, but I'm not worried about that. I have gotten either that or empty cups in any bra I have tried so far, unless the bra was so small or shallow that my breast tissue is pushed out at the top again. I have seen that referred to as a reverse orange in a glass effect somewhere: Basically many bras that are too small in the cups will not give me quadboob but cleavage or even just the nice gentle rounded shape someone with more fullness on top would get from a well-fitting bra.
The most annoying thing about all wired bras I have tried so far, including this one, is that they just feel wrong. I cannot stand wearing them for more than a few hours max, and I still don't fully understand why. Bralettes are fine, even with tight bands, so the issue is not the bra itself. The feeling goes away when I pull down the wires at the front. And so does the support really. This is why I think I need more projection at the wire. You are saying that a lack of projection at the wire will result in a crease at the wire. That is also what I keep reading elsewhere. Could it be that my breasts are just too small to force that crease when the projection is not completely off? I have never found a bra where the wires were narrow enough AND the projection at the bottom was too much, so I don't really have any comparison. I tried sizing up for depth in some models but then the wires become so wide that the cup overall does not feel supportive anymore... The typical recommendations, EM and Comexim, are shallow at the bottom in that size range.
I'm curious how a cup can become pointy when it is too big... Any ideas on that?
Ok, enough text, I will let you talk again ;)

I think the pointy shape can happen if it’s too small or if it’s too big. For me, it’s when there’s too much apex projection and the fabric just kind of hangs on the breast LOL. Sometimes it’s just the way the bra is cut too. The also have had that problem where I find a bra with enough immediate projection but with wayyy too much space at the top. For me, Ewa Michalak and Comexim have been magical. I’m sorry to hear they don’t work for you, bummer.
I’m not sure what to suggest. Perhaps if you're willing to complete your measurements here, particularly vertical and lying perimeter it may provide more insight. Maybe some more fit pictures too for other bras if you’re comfortable doing that? -
I have uploaded pictures for some other bras, not sure how I can make them visible? For example my Comexim 3HCs in 65E (https://www.bratabase.com/browse/comexim/mia-half-cup-567/65E/) and 65F (https://www.bratabase.com/browse/comexim/matthiola-3hc-633/65F/). The cups are really shallow at the bottom :( Maybe going up a couple of sizes will help. Will try to take more bra pictures as soon as possible, I also got some more Cleos. (Spoiler: None of them feels right :\ )
-
Now that I think about it, it is no wonder the Comexims are too small. The 65E fits more like a 28D (which is what I believed to be at the time). And the fact that I don't get any quadboob in a cup that is like two sizes too small really makes me think I'm FOB...
Though if I look at other users' pictures, the bigger cup sizes on that band size don't look terribly projected either :\ -
Okay I don’t know how I missed your other bra photos lol but the links worked!
When you say these bras are too shallow, what makes you think that? Are they causing you discomfort or pain? You mentioned that the comexim half cup it pushes tissue up and rounded with cleavage but no cutting in. The half cups are supposed to fit that way and it looks like a good fit so I’m confused as to why you thought it was too shallow... -
The reason why I think they are too shallow is because they make me feel awful. No physical pain, but I cannot ignore the fact that I am wearing a bra and that makes me so uncomfortable that I have to take it off after a while. And it feels like my breasts want to bust out of the cups. A feeling I never get otherwise, not in bralettes and not even in my compression-type sports bra.
How is the gore supposed to behave when you move? I was under the impression that it would stay in place since it is part of the band, and that it is the cups that move with the breasts. My experience is that the gore is sliding up and down together with my breasts. Or so at least it feels. Maybe that is weird? Or "normal" and feels weird to me? I'm so confused...
-
Well it seems like you’re new to wires so that will take a lot of getting used to....
The gore should not be moving, it should tack and stay put. that is a sign of a fit issue. -
Thanks, I have learned something! I guess I misunderstood then what "tacking" means. Gores usually lie flat against my sternum when I stand, but apparently that is not good enough ;)
And you guessed right, I am sort of new to wires. Got fitted into a 34B ages ago, did not like it, wore wireless for ages, but got sucked into the brafitting rabbit hole last year. I just want something that gives my boobs a nice shape :'(
Ok, so if the gore does not tack, then the cup is too small or a shape mismatch. I tried the Meg on again and checked the gore. It does the same thing, and it looks like the top of the gore does lie on breast tissue. How did I never notice that? The bra brings me in so much from the sides that my breasts get really close. That looks like I would need a crazy amount of room right at the gore if that is how my breasts behave everywhere -_-
-
Could be to do with having quite a petite front frame. So the gores end up wider than you need. I've had that issue in every bra I've tried because as they increase the cup size, they also slightly increase the gore width as there is an assumption about where on the torso most of the bust hangs out, more gets added with a band size change too.
You could try pinching the fabric of the gore together so its narrower (can use a safety pin to pin it folded) and see how that alters the fit. What that will do is slightly rotate the cup so the wires might sit a little higher in the middle and lower on the outside, but it will also move the most projected part closer to the middle of your chest. Might make the top fit even looser, but it would help assess if a bit extra projection at the bottom helps you fill the same shape cup out better.
It could also be linked to having a shorter breast root as if the cups are designed with a taller breast in mind, the way they shape the cup is more of a gentle curve then the highest volume is higher up on the cup than a shorter more projected bust requires. I'm not entirely sure of a solution to this as my issue with this is in a larger bust volume so whilst I know there isn't a simple bra solution for me, there could be in smaller sizes & I just don't know of it as I haven't had to look for it. Though I will say that when I was smaller (UK 32C,) I learned that balcony & balconette styles just didn't work for me & that plunges worked better. They wouldn't have more projection at the wire, but they would fit different in the rest of the cup. As I've gained bust volume, sticking with plunges has allowed me to go up a cup to get closer to the projection I actually need without the rest of the cup looking as ill fitting. Can't wear balcony/ balconette styles at all now since there's no space between my boobs for the wires to fit lol. But that look you have there is exactly how they used to fit me when I was small enough that there looked like there was space for wires but wasn't (my breast roots actually meet in the middle there's no gap between the attachment points.
Oh and a final tip for when you find a bra that fits comfortably enough to keep, if you've got any rib flaring/prominence you can gently bend the underwires so that they better fit your unique shape. Sometimes the comfort issue is that the wires have too flat a shape for your ribs and so reshaping them can make a huge difference in reducing pressure points. I do that to mine & find its absolutely necessary or my ribs scream at me.

helpfulOmg, I didn't get a notification that you mentioned me or anything! I just saw this after clicking on the fitting help section. So glad it's mostly working for you! Especially with the band being nice and snug or that's what I would've said before I read the other comments about the fit. Sorry it didn't work out that well for you but hopefully, it's at least getting you closer to the right fit. Hmm the wrinkling is basically from one area being much more projected than the surrounding tissue. So, you feel that it fits well near the nipples but there's wrinkling in the center where you don't have much tissue. It's just a shape issue with the right size, I'd say. Wrinkling from a too small cup/too big cup looks pretty different. Although, the wrinkling from a too shallow cup at the apex can look similar.
I have the same issue with the top having a slight gap because I just don't have much tissue there and the 28DD meg I have just doesn't hold my breasts in the way where they can be allowed to express their tall, even roots (to be fair, no bra yet does that for me). Just from looking at it, it does seem to mostly fit quite well, especially on your bigger breast but how you feel matters more and I'm not sure you feel great in it. I get the pointy shape too but that's just because my breasts are conical so, I'm not sure if the bra gives a conical shape by itself. Under clothes, this bra does look quite natural on me too and I don't see the slight gaping at the top. Also, yep, I had the poking of the underwires at the gore, it would sit on breast tissue but luckily, the underwire channels are longer than the underwires so, you can push the underwires all the way to the side and put some stitches at the gore to prevent it from coming up and sitting on tissue.
It isn't perfect, obviously but do you think it's good enough? I think mine is good enough and with the stitches at the gore to keep the underwires away, I'm happy with it. No bra can be perfect and fit both the breasts perfectly if there is even the slightest asymmetry. Would you still wanna keep the bra or maybe you'd want to sell it or return it and try something else? (Sorry if you've already spoken about it but there are so many comments and so much info).

The wrinkling is unfortunately on both sides, but the picture is indeed of my smaller breast. It is just hard to see in the pictures :(
I've worn the bra a bit more by now and am pretty sure the bottom part of the cup is too shallow. What I thought of as a "relaxed" shape is rather a really conical shape that I am not fond of. I get the same effect in the Panache Andorra when I try a cup size too small.
Any idea what causes this particular wrinkle pattern? It might be unavoidable but I would like to understand it better :) My current guess is that the bra expects more fullness on top. So if you have more tissue on top in the middle, the lace section will be filled out better and pull that cup part up and reduce wrinkling. That would indeed be unavoidable with my shape. But what do I know ;)
